A panel of medical experts have given their seal of approval of the Pfizer COVID vaccine to the FDA, clearing the way for the feds to grant emergency approval of the vaccine within the next 24 hours potentially. Governor Edwards says it is certainly possible that we could be vaccinating people in Louisiana by late Sunday.

House Speaker Clay Schexnayder sets February 6^th as a special election to fill the vacant seat of Republican Stephen Dwight of Lake Charles. Dwight resigned from the District 35 House seat after winning a fall election to become the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney. District 35 represents Beauregard and Calcasieu parishes.

Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says we could have an agreement on a COVID relief bill in Washington sometime next week. An initial bipartisan relief proposal did not include any stimulus checks, but the White House has stepped in requesting at least 600-dollar direct payments. Graves says it’s one of the four biggest issues left.
