By naming Governor Landry special envoy to Greenland, President Trump is once again ramping up efforts to wrest the island from Denmark. In a social media post thanking Trump, Landry said, in his words, “It’s an honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the U.S.” Denmark says it’s deeply upset by the move.

Data center mania has gripped Louisiana, with construction getting underway on one in Central Louisiana this month. Colleen Crain reports.

On Christmas Eve, dozens of bonfires will be lit along the banks of the Mississippi River. St. James Parish President Pete Dufresne says the lighting of the bonfires is a tradition that has gone on for centuries.

The majority of the bonfires takes place on the east bank, starting on the levees of Gramercy and making their way to St. John the Baptist Parish.

And on New Year’s Day, it will be Georgia and Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. Ole Miss won its way there Saturday with a 41-10 win over Tulane. Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley says Georgia fans have become somewhat accustomed to making the trip to New Orleans to ring in the new year through the years.

The two teams met in Athens October 18th, with Georgia winning in a shootout, 43-35.

The arrests of 67 registered sex offenders in a month-long sting is proof that the battle against online child predators is never-ending. West Monroe Police Chief Jason Pleasant says last week, unrelated to Operation Access Denied, his officers arrested a man on child porn charges, with the count number mind-boggling.

It’s going to be quite the spectacle along the Mississippi River Christmas Eve as dozens of bonfires will be set ablaze along the banks, in a tradition that dates back centuries. St. James Parish President Pete Dufresne says the bonfires start on the levees of Gramercy and make their way up all the way to St. John the Baptist Parish.

Georgia now knows its Sugar Bowl opponent – and it’s a familiar one. Ole Miss won its way to the Sugar Bowl Saturday after beating Tulane in the first round of the College Football Playoff, 41-10. Georgia and Ole Miss met in Athens October 18th, with Georgia winning in a shootout, 43-35. Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley says the fact that this is an all-SEC matchup does not take away from the luster of the game.

President Donald Trump has appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry Special Envoy to Greenland.  That announcement came over the weekend.  Landry posted on “X” his thanks for the nod to the volunteer position, assuring residents here that the role in no way affects his position as Governor of Louisiana.

Even though it won’t be up and running until 2027, Hut 8 has already secured its first tenant in A-I safety and research company Anthropic. Parish President Kenny Havard says the data center will triple the parish’s tax revenue and create lots of jobs.

One of the big concerns about data centers is about the massive energy required to power them. Havard says the Hut 8 data center won’t be pulling any water off the aquifer.

Tulane’s rematch against Ole Miss in the first round of the College Football Playoff went nearly identically to their matchup from exactly four months earlier, with the Rebels trouncing the Green Wave, 41-10. The stage is now set for the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans as the Rebels will take on the Georgia Bulldogs January 1st.

Even though it won’t be up and running until 2027, Hut 8 has already secured its first tenant in A-I safety and research company Anthropic. Parish President Kenny Havard says the data center will triple the parish’s tax revenue.

Havard says the Hut 8 data center will create one-hundred plus jobs just in the first phase and 15-hundred construction jobs in all.

After Operation Access Denied let to the arrests of 67 people in a month-long sex offender sting in the northern part of Louisiana, Attorney General Liz Murril says her office will try to replicate the successful sting in other parts of the state…and she has a stern warning for child sex predators.

Christmas in parts of Louisiana is unlike no other as dozens of bonfires are set to be lit along the banks of the Mississippi River once again this Christmas Eve.   St. James Parish President Pete Dufresne says the bonfires are a longstanding tradition and most will take place on the east bank.

The Saints won their third straight on Sunday as they finished the home portion of their schedule with their most complete game of the season by beating the hapless New York Jets 29-6. Quarterback Tyler Shough continues to make the case as the team’s franchise quarterback as he threw for 308 yards and a touchdown. The TD pass came late in the third quarter, as Shough hit a wide open Chris Olave on a 23-yard touchdown pass….

Olave had a career-high 148 receiving yards and had two touchdowns. The second TD pass was thrown by Taysom Hill in the fourth quarter.

Hill also has 36 receiving yards, and is the only player with over one-thousand yards passing, rushing and receiving in the NFL Super Bowl era.

New Orleans will look for its fourth win in a row this Sunday at Tennessee.

Tulane’s magical season came to an end Saturday with a 41-10 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels in the first round of the college football playoffs. The defeat also ends Jon Sumrall’s two year run as the head coach of the Green Wave. He now moves on to Gainesville to become the head coach of the Florida Gators. Sumrall had this message for his team in the locker room after the game…

Ole Miss running backs coach Kevin Smith was at the LSU football operations building in a sign that he will be the Tigers new running backs coach.

LSU women’s basketball had another blowout victory, beating Texas-Arlington 110-45. Grace Knox had a career-high 25 points.

Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb says it doesn’t matter where a child lives, all it takes for a child to become a victim are a device and access to the internet.

The Saints are building momentum for the future. Behind 308 yards passing from Tyler Shough, the Saints pulled away in the second half and beat the Jets, 29-6, in their home finale of the season. It was the Saints’ third win in a row and their fourth in their last six games. Shough also threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave late in the third quarter to pad the Saints’ lead to ten points. Shough said that was the play that started to break the game open for the Saints.

Olave also caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Taysom Hill with less than two minutes left in the game. In all, Olave had 148 yards on ten receptions, including those two touchdown catches. This season, Olave has 1,044 yards receiving and eight touchdown catches, five of which after Shough replaced Spencer Rattler as the starting quarterback. Olave says this season has been a 180 from last season.

Taysom Hill became the first player in the Super Bowl era to achieve one-thousand yards rushing, one-thousand yards receiving and one-thousand yards passing in a career. The Saints will try to make it four in a row Sunday in Nashville against the Titans.

The Louisiana Department of Economic Development says 2025 was a record-breaking year. Secretary Susan Bourgeois says 2025 saw the largest investment and job creation in Louisiana history.

Bourgeois says those jobs pay an average salary of 91-thousand dollars a year, which is 30-thousand higher than the state’s current average.  She credits several new initiatives for the increased investment in Louisiana.

After a two week manhunt, an escapee from the St. Landry Parish jail was captured yesterday without incident.  That’s the word from Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz.  Keith Eli had been in jail on a charge of second degree murder. Another escapee was captured back on December 5th, following a brief chase.

In their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance Tulane will meet Ole Miss or the second time this season, Saturday. The first matchup was in September, and the Green Wave lost by five touchdowns with he Rebels putting up nearly 550 yards of offense. Senior linebacker Sam Howard says the Green Wave’s defense has to do a better job of getting off the field.
