The search continues for the gunman who fatally shot a 21-year-old LSU student multiple times. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean McKneely says Allison Rice was found inside her car early Friday morning, on a well-travelled street close to the city’s downtown area. He says they hope the public can provide information so they can track down the killer…

Rice was a marketing major at LSU. WAFB-TV reports Rice was with friends at an establishment prior to her death.

In Jefferson Parish, three siblings died in a house fire in unincorporated Gretna on Friday morning while their parents were at work. Sheriff Joe Lopinto says arson is not suspected, but the cause hasn’t yet been determined…:

Seven Louisiana schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools. The winning schools are located in Caddo, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Lafayette, St. Landry and St. Tammany parishes. 972 people were killed in 2021 on Louisiana roads according to the LSU Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation. Louisiana Highway Safety Commission Spokesperson Mark Lambert says the number of impaired driving crashes increased by a disturbing 32 percent.

Last year there was also an all-time high of 185 pedestrians being killed by motorists.

Cops continue to search for the gunman who fatally shot an LSU student multiple times in her vehicle as she was stopped at a railroad crossing near downtown Baton Rouge early Friday morning. 21-year-old Allison Rice was from Ascension Parish.

New data is out on the number of fatalities that occurred in Louisiana in 2021 and it’s not good. According to the LSU Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation, 927 people were killed in 2021 on Louisiana roads, that’s a 17-percent increase over the prioer year and the most since 2007. There was also an all-time high 185 pedestrian fatalities. Louisiana Highway Safety Commission spokesperson Mark Lambert says always walk against the traffic not with it…

Louisiana rapper Mystikal will be arraigned Monday on charges of 1st degree rape, domestic battery and drug possession. The artist – real name Michael Tyler – faces a life sentence if convicted of the rape charge alone. Tyler is from New Orleans, but lives in Ascension Parish.

LSU and the Saints are home underdogs this weekend, which is rare for both teams not to be favorite at home. Jeff Palermo has more on the games in Baton Rouge and New Orleans and other matchups…:

Louisiana Tech and ULM are big underdogs heading in their matchups against teams ranked in the Top 5. The Bulldogs are at 5th ranked Clemson and the Tigers are favorite by 33.5 points, while the second ranked Crimson Tide are favorite by nearly 50 points to beat the Warhawks.

The Saints are home underdogs on Sunday against Tampa Bay. Running back Alvin Kamara is questionable with a rib injury. He did not practice on Thursday and Friday.

Saints quarterback Jameis Winston is facing his old team and the team that ended his season last year when he tore his A-C-L. Winston is not putting any added significance on this game…

Police in Baton Rouge hope the public can help them with leads to the killer of an LSU student, found dead in her car close to several area nightspots. BRPD’s Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says 21-year-old Allison Rice was shot multiple times, and their investigation is just getting started…:

Three kids – ages 3, 7 and 15, were killed in a Jefferson Parish house fire Friday morning. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto says the three were siblings…:

The 972 traffic deaths in 2021 are the most since 2007.  And 174 of the traffic fatalities occurred on Louisiana interstates, an alarming increase of 49 percent from 2020.

In addition to an uptick in aggressive driving crashes, Lambert says the number of impaired fatal driving crashes increased a disturbing 32 percent.

Lambert says awareness campaigns like Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket, were paused during the pandemic and he believes it had an impact on the increase in traffic fatalities.

Another alarming statistic among the 2021 numbers is an all-time high of 185 pedestrian fatalities, that’s an increase of 27 percent from 2020. Lambert says if you are walking along a roadway, even in a neighborhood always walk against traffic not with it.

An LSU student was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds this morning in her car near Baton Rouge’s downtown area. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean (EL-jeen) McKneely says 21-year-old Allison Rice’s vehicle was found on Government Street near railroad tracks…

Rice was from Ascension Parish. She was a senior at LSU majoring in marketing. A Baton Rouge TV station say Rice was with friends at an establishment in the Mid City area of Baton Rouge. McKneely says their investigation is in its initial stages…

Three children were tragically killed in a Gretna house fire this morning. Jefferson Parish Sherriff Joe Lopinto says the 3, 7, and 15-year-old victims were all from the same family.

According to NOLA.com the 15-year female was babysitting her two younger brothers when the fire broke out. Firefighters reportedly found the 7-year-old boy inside the home at the bottom of the stairs on the first floor and the 15-year-old girl was found at the top of the stairs lying on top of her younger brother.

Lopinto says the department’s arson division is working with the Jefferson Parish Fire Services to investigate the cause of the blaze along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office. He says they do not suspect arson at this time, but the division is merely assisting and the cause of the blaze has not been determined.

The fire was reported at 9:31 AM in the 500 block of Lynnmeade Road and Lopinto says firefighters and sheriff’s deputies were on the scene at 9:35

After a high speed chase through two parishes – Lafayette and Vermillion – one of Acadiana’s most wanted was nabbed by lawmen this week. 200-year-old Gavin Garnica, of Abbeville, was wanted for numerous drug offenses, carjacking, domestic battery, witness intimidation and more. He’s now behind bars.
