As more people grow concerned with cases of excessive force by law enforcement, Louisiana state Police announce they’re getting troopers into a national program called ABLE, to educate officers on intervening with and deterring excessive force by fellow officers. LSP Trooper Bryan Lee says they want LSP officers to stop actions that can harm individuals and the community…:

All troopers will undergo 8 hours of Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement over the next few months.

A Lafayette man pleads guilty to federal kidnapping charges, for abducting a man he arranged to meet via the dating app GRINDR. 21-year-old Chance Seneca admitted to using the app to meet and kidnap the man with the intent to kill. He still faces a state trial for attempted murder.

 

Once again, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking hunters to submit deer samples for testing for Chronic Wasting Disease. Don Molino has more…:

Rapides Parish deputies arrest a teen for allegedly making threats on social media against fellow students at Rapides Parish High school. No weapons or suspicious packages were found when officers took the boy into custody this morning. RPSO says they are still investigating the matter.

More troubles for New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. This time allegations she’s been using a city-owned apartment in the French Quarter for personal use. Cantrell’s office says she never actually lived there, and she has only used the apartment in the same way previous mayors have. Meanwhile the petition to recall Cantrell has reached nearly 20-precent of required signatures to get a recall elections.

CWD is fatal to deer and the department is hoping to track the disease by having hunters submit samples. Bordelon says there’s been no association of the disease with humans, but out of an abundance of caution the CDC recommends not to consume deer that are positive for CWD.

Louisiana State Police joins the national training program known as The ABLE Project. ABLE stands for Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement and LSP Lt. Bryan Lee says they’ve joined a select group of more than 200 other law enforcement agencies with the specialized training.

Lee says the evidence-based and field-tested ABLE training gives officers guidance on how to intervene and deter the use of excessive force.

In most cases of excessive force, Lee says there are usually bystanders, and the training helps them to recognize when it’s taking place and the best way to intercede. Lee says they want to enable officers to step up and stop actions that can cause harm to an individual and the community.

LSU sets a new record in academic quality for its most accomplished freshman class in the university’s history. Assistant Vice President and Director of Administration Daniel Barrow says the class has an all-time high median GPA of 3.78. And this this year’s freshman class enrollment of 7,367 surpasses last year’s record enrollment of 7,038.

Tonight it’s Week 5 of the high school football season and Union Parish running back Trey Holly is the new all-time leading rusher in Louisiana High School football history. Holly surpassed former Tiger and University High running back Nick Brossette last week and he now has 8,708 yards rushing. A shelter task force from the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services and an all-hazard incident management team from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are in Florida. State Fire Marshal Dan Wallis says their team can assist in a variety of recovery efforts.

Emergency Preparedness Director with DCFS Ricky Montet (Mon-tay) says three staff members are in Tallahassee and from there they will be deployed to assist with shelters in Florida.
