The Louisiana Humane Society is raising concerns that the state does not regulate breeders. In addition to animal safety, H-S-L President Jeff Dorson says Louisiana is missing out on a revenue stream to fund the breeder oversite. He says the state of Georgia collects $800 thousand annually from licenses and penalties and Louisiana should do the same.

Don Redman with Triple-A Louisiana says the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Bayou State today is $3.39. But he says it’s good news, bad news situation. Prices are going down due to a drop in crude oil prices they’ve dropped to $82 a barrel which is about $10 down from a couple of weeks ago.

President of the Louisiana Humane Society Jeff Dorson says animal shelters are overcrowded and the state has one of the lowest spay and neuter rates in the country. And he says unregulated breeders only compound the issue with pets that have health issues being abandoned due to unregulated breeding.

Last year 82 Louisiana drivers ages 15 to 19 were involved in fatal crashes and almost 73-hundred were involved in injury crashes. State Police spokesperson Ross Brennan says it’s a good time for parents to talk to their teens about good driving habits.

Louisiana gets hit with its first cold snap tonight as the first freeze of the fall hits the Bayou State as low temperatures are expected to get into the lows 30 and upper 20s are possible in north Louisiana. The state fire marshal’s office also reminds you to follow proper safety precautions when using a space heater.

The coldest night in many months will take place tonight as low temperatures will get below freezing for much of the state and upper 30s for south Louisiana. The state fire marshal is concerned about the danger of house fires from space heaters. Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says space heaters should not be left unattended.

Baton Rouge Police have arrested 24-year-old Antoine Muse for his role in the shooting of a five-year-old. Muse has been charged with negligent injuring and illegal use of a weapon. Cops say the child is expected to make a full recovery after arriving at a local hospital with apparent gunshot wounds.
