Attorney General Jeff Landry releases the Protecting Innocence Report today. He says it has guidelines for libraries to assure kids cannot access adult materials. At his press conference, Turkey Creek Senator Heather Cloud, who’s filed a bill to require that of public libraries…:

Her bill proposes that libraries who fail to follow the law could lose public funding.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says he hopes President Biden will discuss things Americans are sincerely worried about during tonight’s State of the Union address. Over the last several days, Americans watched a Chinese spay balloon cross the entire country before the White House ordered it shot down. Cassidy says they also watch tens of thousands cross the Mexican border weekly, without restriction or regulation…:

He says Americans are losing hope in government to solve these issues.

 

An Opelousas man has been arrested in connection with the late January break-in at Zoosiana in Broussard, and the theft of several squirrel monkeys. 61-year-old Joe Randall is charged with burglary and animal cruelty. No monkeys have been recovered.

A weird story out of St. Tammany Parish this morning, as a Florida woman, armed with a blowtorch, led police on a high speed chase in a graffiti’ed school bus before crashing it on a parochial school campus. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Sgt. Suzanne Carboni says it all started at 6 AM when they received a call from a Mandeville gas station…:

That led to her fleeing from deputies and eventually crashing the bus into a fence at the school. 37-year-old Natalie Jarvis, a resident of Florida, faces numerous charges including flight, terrorizing, hit & run and more.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says he hopes President Biden will discuss things Americans are sincerely worried about during tonight’s State of the Union address. During his weekly press teleconference, Cassidy says Social Security is on track to go insolvent within 12 years if nothing is done to fix it, and millions of mature Americans want an answer…:

A Leesville man is in jail, after a local mom caught him sexually molesting her 7-year-old daughter. 35-year-old Thomas McCartney was arrested in Harris Country, Texas and will be brought back to Vernon parish to face justice. McCartney is also a convicted sex offender, with arrests from 2006 and 2010.

Landry says it’s an examination of sexually explicit material at public libraries that may not be age appropriate for children. Landry hastens to say the report does NOT advise censorship, but rather offers advice as to how libraries can prevent kids from accessing inappropriate materials…:

The Saints are expected to announce Joe Woods as the team’s new defensive coordinator today. Head Coach Dennis Allen is familiar with Woods. The two worked together for part of a season when Allen was the head coach of the Raiders in 2014. Woods has been an NFL coach for 19 seasons, five as a defensive coordinator. The last three seasons he was the D-C in Cleveland.

Former Saints Coach Sean Payton is expected to change the culture in Denver like he did in New Orleans. Last season, Denver allowed quarterback Russell Wilson to have his own personal coach in the building. Payton says that will not happen under his watch…

Payton is reportedly hiring Saints assistant offensive line coach Zach Streif to be his O-Line coach in Denver. Streif was on the Saints Super Bowl team and played 12 seasons in New Orleans under Payton.

It looks like former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire will have a chance to play in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have activated Edwards-Helaire from injured reserve. He hasn’t played since November 20th when he suffered a high ankle sprain. Edwards-Helaire has six touchdowns on the season.

There’s a disagreement over how to address the lowest ever recorded level of speckled trout in Louisiana waterways. The Senate and House Natural Resources Committee rejected a proposal to limit the daily catch limit from 25 to 15 and increase the size limit to 13.5 inches. But LDWF Assistant Secretary of Fisheries Patrick Banks supports the change…

Mona Hardin, the mother of Ronald Greene, will attend the President’s State of the Union tonight, where he’s expected to address police brutality. Hardin is the guest of Congressman Troy Carter, and he says it’s important to highlight Greene who died while in the custody of state police.

With the continued rise of overdose deaths linked to Fentanyl, one coroner is urging those with addiction issues to seek help and for more individuals to have Narcan readily available should it be needed to reverse an overdose. St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston says first we must recognize that substance abuse is a medical disease.

43-year-old Alonzo Bagley of Shreveport died from a bullet wound to the chest. Davis says its too early in the investigation to make any assumptions why the officer fired his weapon.

Louisiana’s speckled trout population is down to its lowest-ever recorded level, but recreational anglers and state lawmakers oppose efforts to limit catches. LDWF Assistant Secretary of Fisheries Patrick Banks says based on their assessments there are only two million pounds worth of female specks in the spawning stock, traditionally that number is six-million

An East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy, who saved a car crash victim’s life last month, is Senator Bill Cassidy’s guest at tonight’s State of the Union address. Detective Will Bankston was off duty and driving through Baton Rouge, when he came across a car crash and pulled a man from his badly damaged vehicle that was in the water. Bankston says this is his first visit to DC.
