The US Supreme Court has set a date to revisit Louisiana’s congressional map and decide whether it violates the 14th and 15th Amendments. Last November the court agreed to hear the case challenging the map as illegally gerrymandered but did not rule before the term ended. The case is now scheduled to be reargued on October 15th. At issue is a redrawn district that cuts a diagonal through the state from Shreveport to Baton Rouge.

A Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after he was arrested for insurance fraud. State Police Trooper Eddie Thomas says a months long investigation has determined 50-year-old Frank Launer of Blanchard got into a wreck last April and did not have automobile insurance and then quickly obtained coverage and filed the claim later that same day. Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn says his office does not condone the alleged actions attributed to Launer and Thomas says Sheriff Whitehorn supports L-S-P’s investigation…

An arrest warrant was issued after months of investigation provided enough evidence to show that Launer obtained and filed a claim with his insurance provider after he got into a wreck.

Linda spent 26 years as Louisiana Tech’s first lady, and left a lasting contribution on Louisiana Tech’s campus, including an endowment to care for the landscape and maintenance created by her and former President Dan Reneau. The Quad’s rose garden is also named after Linda.

The U-S Forest Service is fighting a large wildfire in the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area in Natchitoches Parish. It has burned 15-hundred acres and Jim Caldwell says because of the wildfire, the entire Kisatchie Hills Wilderness area is closed…

Caldwell says they believe the wildfire will be contained by the end of the week. No structures have been damaged.

A sheriff’s deputy in Concordia Parish is also facing charges. Authorities say 22-year-old Drakel Carter was arrested after a physical altercation involving another person. Carter is charged with malfeasance in office and simple battery.  He’s been placed on administrative leave as State Police continue to investigate.

Offensive coordinator Tony Franklin was brought in to jump-start a Louisiana Tech offense that was one of the worst in college football last season. Franklin has a good piece to work with in Eli Finley, who was named to the Mackey Award Watch list. The award goes to the best tight end in college football. Firefighters hope to have a wildfire burning in the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness Area in Natchitoches Parish contained by the end of the week. Kisatchie National Forest spokesperson Jim Caldwell says they’ve seen their share of wildfires there, but this one’s a difficult battle because of the terrain…

A special mass was held last night at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Acadia Parish to honor Charlene Richard, who is know as the Little Cajun Saint. Monday was the 66th anniversary of her death. She died when she was 12 years old from Leukemia, but she offered her suffering for others. People from around the world have traveled to her grave to pray to her and there are testmonies of miracles attributed to her intercession, including a pregnant woman from New York who was told by doctors her fetus had two severe brain abnormalities…

Tropical Storm Erin is in the central Atlantic, expected to strengthen to a major hurricane, but Erin is not a threat to the coastal U-S.

A lighting strike on August 3rd sparked the fire that has burned 15 hundred acres. Kisatchie National Forest spokesperson Jim Caldwell says they are using various methods to extinguish the blaze, and they can use some help from Mother Nature…

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has released the name of a 12-year-old who was fatally shot over the weekend. Shreveport Police say Caiden Smith died at a hospital after he accidentally shot himself after finding a gun inside his home. Authorities say this heartbreaking incident highlights the importance of safe firearm storage and education.
