The LSU Lady Tigers left today for Greenville, South Carolina, where they’ll play Utah on Friday afternoon in a Sweet 16 matchup in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. A rally was held on campus for the team before they left for the airport. All lanes on Interstate 10 leading to the Calcasieu River Bridge were shut down this morning and a shelter-in-place was issued as a result of a chlorine leak from Bio Lab in Westlake. State Police Sergeant James Anderson says I-10 near the Lake Charles bridge was closed for nearly two hours, before re-opening. Cut 10 (06) “…around this.” 

In a press conference earlier today, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell publicly addressed the recall effort to remove her from office.  More than 67,000 signatures were submitted but only 27,243 of the signatures were deemed valid; far below the 45-thousand needed. Cantrell is optimistic that the city will be able to move forward and refocus. Cut 7 (06)  “…serve everyone.”  Cantrell is the first Black female to be elected as Mayor.

The city of Abbeville moves closer to imposing a curfew in an effort to curb teen criminal activity. The council voted unanimously to put one in place for kids under 18; Sunday through Thursdays 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. No start date for the curfew has been set.

Institute for Childhood Preparedness Director Andrew Roszak says this age group, of zero to five, is often overlooked and they offer specialized instructions on how to respond and even prevent an active shooter.

The organization is conducting 11 training sessions in Louisiana this week blanketing the state from Shreveport to New Orleans in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education. Roszak says they’ve received positive feedback from individuals who’ve completed the training.

Last year there were 647 mass shootings in the U.S. and there have already been 79 this year alone.

Participants are able to practice the techniques they’ve learned in a controlled environment and receive feedback from professional instructors. Roszak says it’s very important for early childhood educators to be prepared for the worst to protect such a vulnerable age group.

Anderson says a vapor cloud was spotted in the sky and air monitors determined it was chlorine. He says a shelter in place and the I-10 near the Lake Charles bridge were closed for about two hours, before re-opening just before noon.

Many felt it was right to exclude Detroit-Mercy from the C-B-I, because they had a losing record at 14-19. Jaeson Maravich says it blows his mind that Davis would say he’s upset that he was not given one more game to break the record…

Maravich scored 3,667 points during three varsity seasons at LSU. Jaeson Maravich points out that Davis had five years to break the record, because he got an extra year as a result of the COVID pandemic…

The recall needed 45-thousand valid voter signatures to be placed on a spring election ballot, but failed by a large margin. The public now has until the end of the day Sunday to submit comments regarding the massive overhaul of I-10 in and around Baton Rouge. DOTD extended the deadline for feedback because so many are concerned with plans to narrow I-10 to one lane in each direction in places for extended periods.

The City of Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy is making a few changes in leadership. Roy announced in a city council meeting held yesterday – he will reassign a new chief for the police and a new chief for the fire department. The reason for the new assignments was not addressed.

A New study by LSU Pennington Biomedical Center shows patients who were more active were able to prevent a reoccurrence of colon cancer. Director of the Cancer Metabolism Program at Pennington, Dr. Justin Brown says post-operative exercise increased the survival rate in many patients and they will continue their research.
