A federal appeals court has upheld a Louisiana judge’s decision to invalidate the state’s new legislative district maps for House and Senate races, saying they violate section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.  But those maps will stay in place for now…at least until the US Supreme court rules on a similar case disputing Louisiana’s Congressional districts.

Sgt. Eisworth was a decorated officer who served 23 years in law enforcement and received the Baton Rouge Police Department’s highest honor, the Medal of Valor when he pulled a motorist from a burning car while off duty. Morse says Eisworth says he performed many acts of heroism and impacted many lives.

Visitation will be held at Istrouma Baptist Church Saturday beginning at 9:00 A.M., followed by his funeral at noon. Sgt. Eisworth will be laid to rest at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a child protection lawsuit against a popular online gaming site that she says is overrun with harmful content and child predators….

Cut 10 (10) “…sex predators.”

Murrill says there are nearly 82 million daily active users and 56-percent of its users are under the age of 16. In the lawsuit, the Louisiana A-G claims Roblox allows for the distribution of child sex abuse material, fails to implement basic safety controls to protect child users and it fails to provide notice to parents and child users of its dangers.

There is no age minimum and requirement to verify age or parental permission to sign-up. Murrill says once registered, a child can find sexually explicit material …

Murrill filed the lawsuit in Livingston Parish. Sheriff Jason Ard says just last month his deputies arrested an individual suspected of possessing child sexual abuse material and the suspect was actively using the online platform Robflox…

Murrill says Roblox is in violation of Louisiana law and is seeking permanent injunctive relief. In the lawsuit, Roblox would not able allowed to operate in Louisiana if it doesn’t have adequate safety features and they would have to pay restitution to Louisiana, plus attorney fees and civil penalties.

Murrill believes Louisiana is the first state to sue Roblox.

LSU football is still figuring out who its best eleven are offensively for the opener at Clemson. The Tigers are challenged with having to replace four NFL-level offensive linemen. ESPN Baton Rouge radio host Charles Hanagriff says he expects the starting offensive line to continue to change as the season progresses.

The LSU offense has struggled with establishing a run game in the past two seasons. With an offensive line that is not set, the Tigers will have to find ways to be creative. Sophomore Ju’Juan Johnson is taking snaps at quarterback, running back and wide receiver. Hanagriff believes he could be a bridge to LSU’s run game foes.

LSU’s defense has not met its standards for several years up to this season. Head coach Brian Kelly hit the portal heavy while going after players with major experience. Hanagriff says the defensive line depth will help LSU close out games its offense can’t.

The New Orleans Saints are battling injuries already this season with key starters expected to miss extended time. Tight end Juwan Johnson has a long injury history in the league and he says he wants to prioritize his health to become more available.

The Saints defense did not have much depth at the cornerback position last season. The Saints took multiple defensive backs in the draft including rookie cornerback Quincy Riley out of Louisville. Riley says it has been a surprisingly smooth transition to the pro level.

Saints cornerback Alontae Taylor will miss some time at the beginning of the season, so head coach Kellen Moore is looking for someone to step up in the secondary. Riley says he will do whatever is needed from him and is opening to playing anywhere on the field.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff deputies say the driver of the SUV kept going and has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless operation and felony hit and run. Lt. Suzanne Carboni says the child was hit on Northshore Lane near Slidell..

Carboni says the vehicle was located later that night and the driver, 35-year-old Cody Beaudette was taken into custody.

LSU junior cornerback Ashton Stamps has been part of the past two disappointing defenses the Tigers have put out on the field. A key to improving LSU’s defense is its ability to get pressure to the quarterback. Stamps says he is noticing the defensive line unit is getting more consistent pressure which is allowing him and the corners to make plays easier.

The Washington Nationals are returning former first-round pick and former LSU outfielder Dylan Crews from rehabilitation assignment. Crews is reinstated on the roster after dealing with an oblique injury that kept him out since May 20th. With Crews coming back, the Nationals are designating first baseman Nathaniel Lowe for assignment. The Nationals currently have the second-worst record in the MLB with 48 wins and 72 losses.

ULM finished with the 84th total defense in college football last season, giving up 384 yards a game. Second-year defensive coordinator Earnest Hill was nominated for the Broyles Award in 2024 after improving his unit significantly from the 2023 season. Hill says he has placed a huge emphasis on the development of his defensive line after bulking up in the spring.

The New Orleans Pelicans released its schedule for the 2025 season. The Pelicans will open its season in Memphis where it will face the Grizzlies on October 22nd. The Pelicans will face former first pick Victor Wembenyama and the San Antonio Spurs in its home opener on Friday October 24th.  Another notable matchup includes Lebron James, Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers  coming to New Orleans for an NBA cup matchup on November 14th at 7 p.m.

A six-year-old Slidell boy was riding his scooter in his driveway when he was hit and killed by an SUV whose driver then fled the scene. It happened Wednesday around 6 PM and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office Spokesperson, Lt. Suzanne Carboni says the SUV was located later in the evening and the driver, 35-year-old Cody Beaudette was arrested. She says Sheriff Randy Smith sends his condolences to the child’s family

A six-year-old Slidell boy was struck and killed by an SUV while riding his scooter in his driveway just before 6 last evening. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson, Lt. Suzanne Carboni says after hitting the child, the driver of the SUV, 35-year-old Cody Beaudette, kept going. Beaudette’s SUV was located later that night in another part of town and Beaudette was taken into custody.

Louisiana is seeing an increase in the number of people infected with Vibrio vulnificus, commonly called flesh eating bacteria. State epidemiologist, Theresa Sokol says typically, at this time of year, we see less than ten cases but so far this year, 20 people have been hospitalized and four have died. She says Vibrio thrives in warm salt and brackish waters.

The state department of transportation is starting a new program that will allow businesses to get involved in cleaning up the litter along state highways. The “Sponsor a Highway” program will start in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Shreveport, with the hopes of expanding. DOTD Spokesperson Rodney Mallett says they spend 13-million dollars a year on litter removal efforts and this is a chance for private dollars to help.
