When it comes to gas prices, what a difference a year makes as the price at the pump is nearly a dollar and a half lower compared to last year’s record high gas prices. AAA Fuel Analyst Don Redman says motorists should be happy

On June 15 last year, the price for a gallon of regular gasoline was at a record high of $4.56 and now it’s at $3.12. Redman says the drop is due to the price of oil and ease in demand.

Redman says gas prices should hold steady for the summer maybe a slight bump around the 4th of July holiday but no steep hikes are expected unless a hurricane shuts down a bunch of refineries.

The national average for regular gas is $3.58 a gallon.

Mother Nature whipped up powerful and severe thunderstorms that rolled through Caddo and Bossier Parishes early this morning packing winds up to 80 mph. National Weather Service Meteorologist Shane Pendleton says the residents are now dealing with the aftermath.

Storm damage is also reported in DeSoto, Red River, and Natchitoches Parishes. As of late Friday morning, more than 237-thousand customers were without power as a result of downed power lines. No significant injuries were reported but Pendleton the amount of clean-up is astonishing…

Storms are expected to make their way back into northwest Louisiana later today into Sunday. Pendleton says extreme temperatures and more storms will make a bad situation worse.

A massive software breach could possibly affect Louisianans that have a state-issued ID, driver’s license and/or vehicles registered with the Office of Motor Vehicles. Director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Casey Tingle urges residents to take preemptive measures to secure their accounts.

The three credit monitoring services are Experian, Equifax, and Transunion.

Louisiana is not the only state impacted by the cyberattack, the third-party data transfer service MOVEit is widely used around the world. Tingle says they know passwords were not included in the data that was involved in the breach.

Tingle says if you see unusual activity on your credit card, bank account or any other financial account notify the company associated with the account immediately.

Governor John Bel Edwards left today for an economic development mission to Europe, along with a delegation of Louisiana business and health sciences leaders. One of the first stops will be the Paris Air Show, the largest aerospace and aviation trade show in the world. In addition, Edwards will also visit Belgium to meet with bioscience and health business leaders.

The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness at this time says there’s no indication the cyberattack has impacted the identities of those with Louisiana driver’s licenses and state issued IDs. Dual enrollment has a positive impact on high school students and a recent report by the Louisiana Board of Regents shows an increase in early college credits. Melllyn Baker with the Louisiana Board of Regents says there’s higher participation among students in Central and North Louisiana school systems.

She says dual enrollment increased by 11 percent over the past two years despite the pandemic.

A number of government agencies including the Office of Motor Vehicles, major businesses, and organizations have been hit by a major cyber attack – the MOVEit data breach. Governor John Bel Edwards was briefed on the incident yesterday. OMV believes anyone with a state-issued driver’s license or ID has had personal information exposed and urges residents to change all passwords, check social security benefits, report identity theft, and monitor their credit.

Tiger fans aren’t the only ones ecstatic about LSU playing in the College World Series. Omaha is thrilled that Purple and Gold are back. Brooke Thorington has more.

It’s going to be scorching hot this weekend but taking small measures can protect your pets from heatstroke. LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Spokesperson Ginger Guttner says pet owners should be mindful of a pet’s essential needs during the summer heat.

Guttner advises pet owners to avoid jogging or biking with their dogs during midday hours because the pavement can burn the dog’s pads. 

A recent report by the Louisiana Board of Regents shows dual enrollment increase college credits among high school students. Louisiana Board of Regents Assistant Commissioner for Strategic Planning and Student Success Mellynn Baker says students can learn how to participate online.

Following a small drop in enrollments during the 2019-20 school year, the number of students taking dual enrollment courses at public colleges and universities increased by 11% over the past two years despite the pandemic.

State leaders are alerting Louisiana residents with a driver’s license or state ID of a data breach involving a third party transfer service that the Office of Motor Vehicles uses. The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness says there is no indication at this time the cyber attackers have sold, used, shared or released the OMV data obtained in the attack. But Louisianans should act quickly to protect their identities.

Governor Edwards and a delegation from Louisiana leave today for a week long economic development trip to France and Belgium. Edwards will attend the Paris Air Show, the largest aerospace and aviation trade show in the world. The Belgium leg of the mission will bring together an array of Louisiana and Belgian bioscience business and research leaders. LSU football has received a commitment from a four star cornerback out of Tennessee. His name is Ondre Evans and he’s rated as the 20th best cornerback in the country according to 24-7 sports. Evans also considered Georgia and Alabama.

The Saints concluded their mandatory three-day minicamp yesterday and the players will not be back until training camp starts in about five weeks. New starting quarterback Derek Carr has looked good in the offseason workouts. Coach Dennis Allen is glad Carr will be leading the Black and Gold’s offense…
