Former President Donald Trump is planning to hold a fundraiser for his 2024 presidential campaign, It will be held in Metairie on July 25th at the home of retired banker Joseph Cannizzaro. In order to attend, it will cost$23,200 per person and per couple.

Pelicans star Zion Williamson opened up about his struggles in an interview on Gilbert Arenas’ podcast. The 23-year-old forward says he just wants to hoop as injuries have limited to 114 games in four NBA seasons. Williamson also admits it’s been difficult for him to eat healthy, but he’s putting people around him with wisdom.

LSU set a school record with 13 players drafted during the 20-round Major League Baseball Draft. Seven players went in the second round. The Orioles took pitchers Blake Money and Riley Cooper and the Dodgers took shortstop Jordan Thompson and left hander pitcher Javen Coleman. Nate Ackenhausen was not drafted and is expected to return to LSU.

Shreveport Police held a briefing Tuesday after a lengthy standoff Monday that ended with what authorities believe is the suspect’s charred remains found inside a Crook Creek home. Police Chief Wayne Smith says among the shooting victims was a 13-year-old girl who was hiding in the home. Smith praised the three officers who entered the home amid gunfire to save her.

Names of those involved have not been released and the teen and a neighbor who was also shot are expected to make a full recovery.

Natchitoches Police are asking for help in locating 19-year-old Matthew Robinson. Robinson is the suspected gunman in the shooting death of 35-year-old Michael Porter. The incident happened early Tuesday morning at Motel 6 on the Highway 1 Bypass. Robinson faces second-degree murder charges.

A 14-year-old juvenile has been charged with negligent homicide in what police are calling the accidental shooting death of a 13-year-old female in Hammond last weekend. The shooting happened in a home in the 1200 block of Willow Street. The investigation is ongoing.

Schools and athletic events in Louisiana are now required to have an automated external defibrillator, better known as an AED. Baton Rouge Senator Cleo Fields authored the legislation, and he says two lives have already been saved in those settings because an AED was readily available.

Training camp begins July 25th and the season opener is September 10th versus the Titans.

Thirteen, a school record number of LSU Tigers were taken in the Major League Baseball Draft that concluded yesterday. Garrett Edwards, Blake Money, Christian Little, Braden Jobert, Riley Cooper, Javen Coleman and Jordan Thompson were among the Tigers selected yesterday.

Alex Milazzo, Hayden Travinski and Nate Ackenhausen were not drafted. Ack is expected to pitch for the Tigers next season.

The state’s top overall prospect, Sulphur left-hander Jake Brown was drafted in the 16th round by the Texas Rangers, but he’s expected to go to college.

In the 14th round, the Houston Astros selected Cajuns right-hander Jackson Nezuh. He led the Sun Belt in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched.

In the 11th round, the Toronto Blue Jays drafted McNeese All-American pitcher Grant Rogers. The two-time Southland Pitcher of the Year was 12 and 1 last season with an ERA of 1.82.

The Pelicans improved to 2-and-1 in Summer League action with an 82-73 win over the Phoenix Suns.

DeRidder insurance professional Tim Temple has begun his campaign for Louisiana Insurance Commissioner in earnest. Temple’s campaign announced it will start buying statewide media ads to promote his run. In a Tuesday call to LRN, Temple says he has been traveling the state since he announced last fall, but the time has come to invest in a broader message…:

The gunman shot two neighbors before entering the home, and he also fired shots toward a room where a 13-year-old girl hid as others escaped. Smith says the teen was hit and three officers entered the home amid gunfire to save her.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the standoff and the gunman exchanged gunfire multiple times with officers and he also destroyed two police drones used in the standoff. Smith says police spent hours trying to negotiate with the suspect.

Kamara also faced a civil suit in Louisiana that sought $10 million in damages, but Greene’s attorney says the suit has been settled. The NFL, who was waiting for the judicial process to play out, has yet to announce their own consequences as part of its personal-conduct policy. First-time offenders facing felony charges involving assault or battery usually receive at least a 6-game suspension, but Jackson says it’s hard to predict what the league will do…

While Kamara said he was glad to have this put behind him and Saints training camp just around the corner, Jackson says this could still be drawn out longer. The NFL has been monitoring proceedings closely but has given no timetable on when a ruling will be passed down. Jackson says even that may not be the end…

Eight percent of ‘Mom and Pops’ mentioned labor costs as their top business problem, which is down by two points from May and 24 percent said that labor quality was their top business problem. McVea says nearly half of the owners reported job openings that were hard to fill…

However, 36 percent of owners say they have raised compensation, and 22 percent plan to raise wages in the next three months. McVea is hopeful the economy will improve for owners by the end of the last quarter…

The state health department is reporting Louisiana’s first two human cases of West Nile Virus for 2023. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says mosquito pools are present and cases have been discovered in two parishes across the state.
