Some residents in Vernon Parish were placed under a voluntary evacuation Friday afternoon due to a large wildfire. As of Friday night, the sheriff’s office said the blaze in the Evans Community had been 90% contained and that firefighters were still handling hot spots and watching for jumps across lines.

The White House says the project is estimated to create 23-hundred jobs, with a goal to hire workers formerly employed by the oil and gas industry for ten percent of the overall workforce.

A veteran deputy with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office has been fired following his arrest for DWI and hit and run. Authorities say 50-year-old Sgt Clint Gray was also booked with resisting an officer and careless operation. Sherriff Jason Ard said Gray, who had been an LPSO deputy since 2001, is no longer a member of the department.

The state has received up to $603 million dollars in Department of Energy grant funding to build an underground air capture hub in Calcasieu Parish. Former New Orleans Mayor and Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, a Senior Advisor to the President, says the funding will come from the 2021 Infrastructure Act…:

The facility will attempt to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and bury it deep underground.

I-10 along the Louisiana – Mississippi state line reopened this morning after being shut down in both directions Friday afternoon due to a huge brush fire in the median. The dense smoke obscured visibility in the area and crews needed the roads cleared to get the blaze under control. The closure was in effect for nearly 11 hours.

The Louisiana DA’s Association is not happy about the Pardon Board’s decision to schedule clemency cases for death row inmates. The call was made a day after Governor John Bel Edwards request, and East Baton Rouge DA Hillar Moore says prosecutors were completely blindsided by this…:

If you’re going to the game you’ll be happy to know that the New Orleans Police Department has put in plan a place to deter car burglars. The Saints can only control security for parking areas on the Superdome’s property so they asked the NOPD to increase patrols in the city for fans who park throughout downtown and surrounding areas.

The game against Kansas City kicks off Sunday at Noon.

Four LSU football players spoke with the media Friday including offensive lineman Charles Turner III. Plenty of other Tigers have been asked about what the expectations are for the team and have answered by expressing their national championship aspirations, but Turner says something different…:

Hillar Moore says he and colleagues were completely blindsided to hear a plan to reduce 56 death row sentences to life in prison was in the works…:

He says the Governor never mentioned an aversion to capital punishment while running for office, and it’s only now, that his term is winding down, he rallies against it.

Millions in federal relief money are coming to state Wildlife & Fisheries, for the 2019 flood and their impacts. LDWF’s Jason Froeba says a reimbursement program will be set up for boat skippers, processors, docks and others…:

The Biden administration is investing over a billion dollars to build two carbon capture facilities; one in Texas and the other in Calcasieu Parish. The news makes Governor John Bel Edwards a happy guy…:

The goal is to hire as many displaced oil & gas industry workers as possible.

Three people are dead and one person severely injured, after a high speed chase of a stolen vehicle through West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee parishes ended in a fiery crash. Officers chasing the vehicle lost it on Highway 190 for a time, but came upon the car crashed into a tree and ablaze. The men inside were heavily armed and wearing body armor and cops want to know what they were up to.

The Saints practiced in the Superdome today and there was a fight between multiple players. Center Erik McCoy and defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd seemed to have started the fight, and then escalated with defensive end Carl Granderson and left tackle Trevor Penning.

Allen says that the fight is not a big deal and thing will get better when they start playing and practicing against new faces.

Saints tight end Foster Moreau is entering his first year with his new team. Moreau is from New Orleans and went to Jesuit High school and LSU. Now that Moreau is a Saint, he says that he is excited to wear his new uniform.

Three more teens are under arrest in connection with the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl in Ascension Parish a week ago. The victim’s boyfriend, 16-year-old Jaquin Stephens allegedly killed the girl in a jealous rage. He was arrested early this week. Now three of his friends have been taken in as accessories to the crime.

A Church Point woman is sought by police for allegedly leaving several dogs and puppies penned up and chained up outside in this heat, with no food and little water. Some of the animals died before rescuers could get to them. When found, 36-year-old Angelica Gibson will face aggravated animal cruelty charges.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore says he and other DAs were completely blindsided by a campaign to reduce 56 death row sentences to life in prison was in the works.

The board originally rejected to review the cases on the grounds they were not filed according to their rules within a year of the denial of the inmate’s final appeal.  Moore says several legal opinions agreed with the board to reject the cases, but a letter from the governor asking them to do so led to the scheduling of 20 cases.

Moore says throughout Governor Edwards’ career he’d never said he was opposed to the death penalty and particularly during his re-election campaign.

Weeks after the governor said he was against capital punishment, clemency applications from every death row inmate but one in Louisiana were filed.

Froeba says the largest portion of the funding is dedicated to an equipment reimbursement program for the commercial industry. He says docks, processors, commercial fishermen, vessel owners, and charter captains, will be eligible for funding reimbursement.

in 2019 freshwater that was released into the gulf, due to rising waters on the Mississippi via the Bonnet Carre Spillway pushed seafood out farther and damaged oyster bays. Froeba says the estimated damage was more than $ 100 million.

In addition to the reimbursement program, Froeba says they have funding for public oyster sea grounds that are open to the public for fishing and monies for commercial and charter access grants.

LDWF plans to hold informational public meetings next month about the projects.
