As of January 1st, State Police must record the demographics of individuals from traffic stops. Baton Rouge Representative Denise Marcelle authored the legislation, and she says it’s important to show troopers are not racially profiling drivers they pull over.

41-year-old Kayla Vead of Marksville was sentenced to three years in a federal jail for defrauding the Rapides Parish Council on Aging out of more than 300 thousand dollars. Vead plead guilty to two counts of wire fraud as an embezzlement of funds and was ordered to pay restitution.

Former Grambling State President Rick Gallot started the new year in his new position as President of the University of Louisiana System on Monday. Gallot believes his experience will benefit him as he advocates for resources on behalf of the 90 thousand students.

Gallot was offered the job on October 25th but Governor Elect Jeff Landry expressed concerns with the board’s decision to hire Gallot. Later, Landry decided to move forward with the contract.

Nola.com is reporting Governor John Bel Edwards will join the New Orleans-based law firm Fishman Haygood when he leaves office on Monday. Edwards will work with the firm’s business team and will focus specifically on securing renewable energy deals. The governor has been a big proponent of expanding renewable energy.

The city of Thibodaux’s emergency preparedness director, Jacques Thibodaux, is leaving to be the state’s director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland and Security Emergency Preparedness in Jeff Landry’s administration. Thibodaux is a combat veteran who was the commander of the Louisiana National Guard’s 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
