The Board of Regents says it’s close to 53-percent, with a goal of 60-percent by 2030. Saints fans at yesterday’s game at the Superdome were ecstatic to see their team pull off their first win of the 2025 season – a 26-14 come-from-behind win over the New York Giants.

A new report from the Blanco Public Policy Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette shows there’s been a significant growth in the number of certificate completers since 2010. Barry Erwin, the chief policy officer of Leaders for a Better Louisiana, says this is a positive development.

A new report on employment outcomes shows men who earned an associate degree, which may take two to three years to complete, earn higher wages in many cases than men with a bachelor’s degree, which typically takes four-years to receive.

Big economic development news for Lafayette as DMR Technologies plans to build a drone manufacturing facility in the Hub City. The company is expected to create 521 jobs. Mandi Mitchell is the president and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority…

President Trump is likely to approve Governor Landry’s request to send National Guard troops to New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Shreveport Police say two people were killed and a dog also died in a deadly crash with a train during the overnight hours. Investigators say a vehicle attempted to go around the arms of the track and collided with the train. Identities of the victims have not been released.

Attorney Matthew Ory says an investigation conducted by the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s office shows former LSU receiver Kyren Lacy did not cause a crash last December that killed 77-year-old Herman Hall. Ory says there’s also video evidence showing Lacy was 72 yards away when the collision occurred. But State Police still maintains he was driving recklessly. Lacy killed himself last April. He was facing several charges, including negligent homicide.

President Trump is likely to approve Governor Landry’s request to send the National Guard to New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Shreveport to assist law enforcement in those three cities in fighting crime. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says since neither the city nor the police department has any say in whether the National Guard shows up, she wants to work with the Guard so that things are orderly.

Kirkpatrick says she understands both sides of the political debate over the issue, and that she wants the National Guard to work in cooperation with NOPD.

In Baton Rouge, Republican Mayor-President Sid Edwards says he’s fully on board with sending the National Guard to the city, saying he ran for the office on a platform of cracking down on crime.

Edwards says there are a lot of misconceptions about the National Guard’s role in law enforcement, saying the Guard is not trying to take over cities.

Lafayette will soon be the manufacturing home for a commercial drone manufacturing company. Houston-based DMR Technologies is renovating a facility in the city that it will use to manufacture its flagship unmanned aerial system. Mandi Mitchell, the president and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, says the site will be the company’s primary domestic hub.

Mitchell says the company’s economic impact will go far beyond the 500 direct jobs that it expects to create over the next ten years.

Mitchell says the direct jobs that the company will create will pay well above the parish’s average salary.

The company says by shifting production to Louisiana, it will better serve U.S. customers through shorter lead times, enhanced regulatory compliance and strengthened domestic supply chain capabilities. It hopes to have the renovated facility up and running by the middle of next year.

The Saints picked up their first victory on Sunday, defeating the Giants 26-14. It was also the first for Kellen Moore as a head coach. Moore says after New Orleans came up short in their first four games, it was nice to break through and get in the win column.

New Orleans second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler earned his first win as a starter in the NFL after starting his career 0-10. Rattler threw for 212 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 22 yards in the 26-14 win on Sunday.. Rattler says that he isn’t worried about the past and is focused on improving each week to help his team.

New Orleans’ defense forced three fumbles and intercepted two passes against the New York Giants in their 26-14 win on Sunday. Saints cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry intercepted quarterback Jaxson Dart twice and says the unit takes a lot of pride in taking the ball from opposing offenses.

Those of you who have Farm Bureau auto insurance could be in for a nearly 12 percent decrease in your premiums next year.  Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says it’s due to the work of the legislature earlier this year AND lower than projected losses for Farm Bureau this past fiscal year. Temple says overall Louisiana is becoming a more attractive state for insurance companies to do business.

Congressman Cleo Fields is facing allegations of insider trading after reportedly buying a large amount of Oracle stock days before President Trump gave the technology giant a leading role in TikTok’s pending U.S. spinoff from a Chinese company. Fields denies he had any inside knowledge, saying there are strict rules for reporting such trades in a timely manner, and he always does his sooner than necessary.

Congressman Cleo Fields is facing allegations of insider trading. The news website NOTUS reports the Democrat bought a large amount of Oracle stock days before President Trump signed an executive order that gave the technology giant a leading role in TikTok’s pending U.S. spinoff from a Chinese company. But Fields says he didn’t know and like many members of congress, he’s been trading stocks often for a long time.

If you have auto insurance with Farm Bureau, you could see a decrease in your premiums in 2026, as Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has approved a nearly 12-percent rate decrease.  Farm Bureau reports it’s writing more wind and hail coverage for Louisiana homeowners. Temple says that’s because the legislature modified the three-year rule in the 2024 legislative session.

As for the tropics, the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a disturbance near the Central Bahamas that has a low chance of becoming a cyclone. State Climatologist Jay Grymes says knock on wood – there’s a very good chance that we’ll get through the entire hurricane season unscathed.

It’s a light weekend for college football in Louisiana, but Northwestern State is celebrating  homecoming this weekend as the Demons host East Texas A&M in the Southland opener for both teams. Louisiana’s Department of Revenue says no more cash payments for your taxes. Beginning November 1sth, the Baton Rouge office of the Department of Revenue will only accept payment by check, credit card, debit card, or money order. It’s the policy already at regional offices in Alexandria, Lafayette, Monroe, New Orleans, and Shreveport.  As always, online payment is available at revenue.louisiana.gov.
