Entergy Louisiana is temporarily suspending their disconnections for non-payment from Monday January 15^th through Friday January 19^th. Entergy says they are taking the action out of an abundance of caution for customer safety in the expected prolonged freezing temperatures in Louisiana. A former Baton Rouge police officer was charged Friday with third-degree rape and has been fired. 30-year-old Demichael Robertson was fired last month. He had been arrested by Zachary Police twice last August, First accused of inappropriately touching a young girl. The second arrest was on a count of third-degree rape stemming from a December 2022 incident. According to an affidavit, The victim said she had been afraid to report it sooner, “due to Demichael being a well-known Baton Rouge Police Officer,”

A basketball game in Bogalusa turned deadly Thursday night after a shooting in the parking lot at Bogalusa High School. Acting Bogalusa Police Chief Percy Knight says it happened but before 9 pm during the game against Covington. They do not have any suspects at this time and are asking for the public’s help. Knight says they believe the two victims were together and the shooting happened near a car that was in a parking lot located outside of a fence near the school.

A 14-year-old boy was killed, and a 13-year-old boy was shot in the leg.

Extreme cold for Louisiana is blowing in. The National Weather Service says, by Sunday, the coldest weather the state has seen in years. Temperatures drop as low as thirteen degrees north of I-20 next week. Shreveport Meteorologist Carly Kovacik says the cold front will drop temperatures across the state and by the end of next week, temperatures will start to warm a bit into the 50s. but, she says don’t put away those coats just yet.

The National Weather Service urges Louisianans to prepare for the coldest weather the state has seen in years by Sunday, temperatures in the low teens north of I-20. Shreveport Meteorologist Carly Kovacik says the cold front will drop temperatures across the state.

Kovacik says snow, sleet, and freezing rain can not be ruled out for the I-20 corridor on Monday. By Tuesday morning, she says not much change in peak temperatures are expected…

By the end of next week, temperatures will start to warm into the 50s. With winter ending in March, she says don’t put away those coats just yet.

The Pelicans are on a roll as they have won 6 of their last 7 games after a 141 to 105 win against the Warriors on Wednesday. New Orleans will take on the Nuggets tonight at 9:00 pm on ESPN in an effort to build their lead for the Southwest Division crown. Currently the Pelicans are a half a game ahead at 23 and 15.

In Louisiana basketball news, LA Tech returned to its defensive identity as the Bulldogs defeated Middle Tennessee 60 to 52 last night. LA Tech improved to 1 and 1 in Conference USA play by holding Middle Tennessee to only 38.9 percent shooting from the field and forcing 18 turnovers on the night. The Bulldogs will take on Liberty at 2 pm on Sunday and the game will be broadcast on ESPN 2. ULM was also in action yesterday, but the Warhawks fell to Southern Miss 71 to 58 after going back and forth with the Golden Eagles during the first half in which 8 point leads were exchanged.

The NFL playoffs will start tomorrow as Dak Prescott, the former Haughton high school star, is looking to lead the Cowboys to their first Super Bowl since 1996. In order to reach that goal, the Cowboys will need to defeat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and the game will kickoff at 3:30pm on FOX. Dereck Stingley Jr will take the field in his first playoff game when the Browns play the Texans on Saturday at 3:30 pm on NBC. The Steelers will also have a former Tiger on defense, as Patrick Peterson will play against the Bills in their Wild Card matchup.

In Bogalusa police are investigating a shooting that killed on student outside of Bogalusa High School’s basketball game last night. Police say both students involved were under the age of 18, they were taken to a local hospital where one died and as of this morning the other student was still being treated for injuries.

We’ve already learned that the 2024 crawfish season is going to be one of the worst ever in terms of supply and prices due to the severe drought. And now LSU Agent Crawfish Specialist Mark Shirley warns the outlook for next year isn’t promising either.

He says the fields that don’t have crawfish this year will have to be restocked and with limited availability, it creates issues for the 2025 crop.

With the anticipated cold weather, the State Fire Marshal is encouraging you to practice space heater safety. And spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says a working smoke detector has proven to be the difference between life and death in a fire emergency.

A West Monroe High School teacher has been charged with indecent behavior with a minor. The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office 32-year-old Tatum Hatch allegedly had an improper relationship with one of her students and sent the victim inappropriate messages via Instagram.

Governor Jeff Landry is pushing for closed primary elections. Voters would have to be registered with a political party to vote in that party’s primary. Landry believes if voters want their vote to county they should register with the party of their choice.

While redrawing the state’s congressional districts at the special session lawmakers could also debate changing to closed primary elections.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office issues a call to action for home heating safety following a fatal house fire in Washington Parish. Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says heating equipment is a leading cause of home fires.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in Mt. Hermon Tuesday where the 82-year-old bedridden homeowner was trapped inside.
