LSU wanted to run the ball on Sunday to control the game against USC, but outside of a 39-yard run by John Emery, the Tigers struggled to establish a ground game. Josh Williams rushed for just 33 yards and Kaleb Jackson had 14 yards on five carries. Coach Brian Kelly says they’ll keep rotating their running backs…

Kelly was asked specifically about Kaleb Jackson’s playing weight fo 235 pounds. The coach says they were concerned about it in the spring, but during preseason camp he maintained his conditioning and his speed.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara is entering his eighth season in the NFL and has two years left on his contract with New Orleans. Kamara was seeking a contract extension, but now that the season is starting, he’s focusing on the games not his contract…

Former Ragin Cajuns ace Spencer Arrighetti has been named the American League Rookie Pitcher of the Month. Arrighetti has been outstanding for the Astros.

Paul Skenes picked up his ninth win of the season last night as the Pirates blanked the Cubs five to nothing. Skenes recorded six strikeouts in five innings to give him 142 on the season, which ties a franchise record for strikeouts by a rookie since 1900.

ULM linebacker Wydett Willliams has been named the Sun Belt defensive player of the week. The junior had a game-high ten tackles in the win over Jackson State.

Nicholls linebacker Eli Ennis has been named the Southland Defensive Player of the Week. Ennis had an interception and fumble recovery in a loss to La Tech.

Just five days to go before the Saints open their season against the Carolina Panthers in the Superdome. Saints Head Coach Dennis Allen says forget about last season, this will be a new Carolina Panthers team his squad will be facing.

Dave Canales is the Panthers new coach and his success will depend on the development of second-year quarterback Bryce Young. Kick-off in the Dome is at noon.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara has his five-bedroom, nine bathroom house in Belle Chasse on the market. Kamara says it has nothing to do with his desire for a new contract with the Saints that has yet to happen. The 29-year-old Kamara is entering his eighth season and he says he feels good about the offense with first year offensive coordinator Kilnt Kubiak.

 

Former LSU and Rummel Raider star receiver Ja’Marr Chase continues to wait on a new mega contract from the Bengals. He’s listed as the starting receiver on the team’s depth chart, even though he didn’t practice yesterday. Coach Zac Taylor calls it a fluid situation.

For the fifth straight year, the LSU Tigers are starting the season off with a loss. In Sunday night’s 27-20 defeat to USC, the Tigers were penalized ten times. Two of the penalties were 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalties, on Kyren Lacy and Major Burns that helped USC score touchdowns. Coach Brian Kelly says mistakes like that can’t happen…

The Saints will host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in the season opener. New Orleans is a four-point favorite.

ULM is preparing to host UAB this Saturday after defeating Jackson State 30-14 last Thursday. Running back Ahmad Hardy’s 103 yard, one touchdown rushing performance was a big key. Hardy is a freshman from Mississippi and Coach Bryant Vincent is really encouraged about his performance…

No joy in Tiger Town today as the LSU Tigers for a fifth consecutive season have lost their season opener. USC scored two touchdowns in the final seven minutes to beat the Bayou Bengals 27 to 20. Coach Brian Kelly says it’s a game LSU should have won…

LSU led 17-13 with just under seven minutes to go. Kelly is not happy about the two unsportsmanlike penalties that were called against the Tigers Kyren Lacy and Major Burns. After each penalty, USC would score a touchdown a few minutes later. And Kelly also not happy that LSU scored 20 points despite 421 yards of offense and 304 yards of passing from Garrett Nussmeier.

 

The Ragin Cajuns scored on their first four drives on Saturday night as they went on to beat Grambling 40-10. Ben Woolridge threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns. Coach Michael Desormeaux says it was a good start to the season…

U-L Lafayette is at Kennesaw State this Saturday. Grambling has its home opener against Tuskegee.

Louisiana Tech won its season opener, but it wasn’t a pretty win as the Bulldogs defeated Nicholls 25-17 on a rainy night in Ruston. Tech turned it over five times, but the Bulldogs held the Colonels to 200 yards of offense. Louisiana Tech does not play on Saturday, while Nicholls will face LSU in Tiger Stadium.

McNeese is at Texas A-and-M on Saturday, but the Cowboys won their first game on the field since November of 2022 as the Pokes defeated Southern 21-7.

Also, at 7 PM, first year head coach Mickey Joseph takes his Grambling Tigers down to Lafayette to face the Ragin Cajuns. Southern will head west to Lake Charles to play the McNeese Cowboys. That game will also kick-off at 7 PM.

ULM opened the season on Thursday night with a 30-14 win over Jackson State. Northwestern State blocked a field goal that resulted in a touchdown for the Demons but Northwestern still lost to Tulsa 62-28 and Tulane took down Southeastern Louisiana 52-0.

ULM ended a ten-game losing streak last night with a 30-14 win over Jackson State to kick-off the Bryant Vincent era. The game didn’t kick-off until 8 PM because of lightning in the area and it took awhile for ULM’s offense to get going. Freshman Ahmad Hardy from Mississippi was the star of the game as he rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown.

On the second-play from scrimmage last night in Tulsa, Northwestern State’s Kenneith Lacy broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run to give the Demons a jolt of energy. Northwestern also scored a first quarter touchdown on a blocked field goal, Antonio Hall ran 74 yards on the scoop and score. But eventually Tulsa pulled away and defeated the Demons 62-28.

Tulane blanked Southeastern Louisiana 52-0. The highlight of this game was a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Rayshawn Pleasant. The Green Wave’s new starting quarterback, Darian Mensah, threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

 

LSU will unveil what is expected to be a new and improved defense on Sunday night against USC. Linebacker Greg Penn says first-year defensive coordinator Blake Baker wants his guys playing fast, so that means less thinking….

Louisiana is set to hold its first Black Bear hunt since 1987 — and today, licensed hunters can start applying for one of ten permits that will be awarded. Secretary of Wildlife and Fisheries Madison Sheahan says there are three types of permits to be awarded — Wildlife Management Area tags, private landowner tags and general public tags.

LSU has announced that Doug Moreau, the Tigers long-time color analyst on their radio broadcasts, will not be in the booth this season. Moreau had surgery recently and needs time to recover. Jacob Hester will take Moreau’s place.

Former LSU Tiger Dylan Crews hit his first major league home run last night as the Washington Nationals went on to beat the Yankees five to two. Former Ragin Cajuns pitcher Spencer Arrighetti took a no-hitter into the eighth inning yesterday against the Phillies as Houston walloped Philadelphia ten to nothing.

Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore was back at practice yesterday. He’s bee away from the practice field since injuring his hip on July 26th.

ULM hosts Jackson State to begin the Bryant Vincent era. Vincent will look to rebuild a program that has not reached a bowl game since 2012. He says it’s time to start winning football games in Monroe…

Northwestern State will play its first football game tonight since October 16th as the Demons will take the field against Tulsa tonight. Former school president Marcus Jones made the controversial decision last October to end Northwestern’s season early following the fatal shooting of safety Ronnie Caldwell.

 

Tulane has a new football coach in Jon Sumrall and he’ll lead the Green Wave tonight against Southeastern Louisiana. Both teams had tight quarterback battles during preseason camp.
