Former LSU Tiger Alex Bregman homered for the fourth straight game last night as the Astros held on to beat the Rays three to two. Bregman finished with three hits and Houston has won seven in a row.

First-year defensive coordinator Blake Baker was hired away from Missouri to turn around a defense that was one of the worst, if not the worst in LSU history in 2023. Baker has seen signs of improvement but there’s still a ways to go….

According to the Advocate, during yesterday’s team drills, LSU’s quarterbacks only completed three of eight passes during the 11-on-11 scrimmage period open to the media.

According to the Online Sportsbook…Bet-On-Line. The odds for Garrett Nussmeier to lead the SEC in passing is nine to one. Georgia’s Carson Beck, Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart and Missouri’s Brady Cook have higher odds.

Louisiana Tech has put an emphasis on improving its defense after giving up a bunch of points and yards last season. Louisiana Tech has received a commitment from Calvary Baptist wide receiver Kolbe Thomas. He was a second team All-State selection last season and runs a 4.44 in the 40.

The Houston Astros won their sixth straight last night as they topped the Tampa Bay Rays six to one. Alex Bregman blasted his 18th home run of the season and Houston leads Seattle by a half game for first place in the A-L West. The Rangers are now nine games under the .500 mark after losing five to four to Boston.

One of the top shooting guards in the country for the class of 2025, Mazi Mosley plans to visit LSU next month. He’s also scheduled visits to Michigan and Iowa.

We are 19 days away from LSU’s season opener and defensive coordinator Blake Baker is looking for more consistency from his guys. Sophomore cornerback Ashton Stamps might be the perfect example of that. Stamps has been getting reps with the first team, along with Sage Ryan as the other boundary corner. Stamps has made his fair share of plays during preseason camp, but Baker is looking for more.

LSU is ranked 13th in the AP Preseason poll and LSU received a commitment from a three-star defensive tackle out of Texas, Dilan Battle, from Arlington, Texas.

Louisiana Tech was poor on defense last season, but one of the bright spots was Michael Richard. The former Edna Karr standout had an outstanding freshman campaign with 32 tackles and seven pass breakups to lead all freshmen in Conference USA. Former Morgan City High standout Vernon Norwood is returning from the Paris Olympics with two medals. He won a gold medal as a member of the United States four by four-hundred meter relay team and earned a silver medal in the four by four-hundred mixed relay.

The Saints are back in southern California after winning their preseason opener 16-14 in Glendale, Arizona against the Cardinals. The play of the backup quarterbacks highlighted the game.

Second-year veteran Jake Haener took over in the second quarter and completed 9 of 13 passes for 107 yards. Rookie Spencer Rattler played the entire second half and completed 9 of 17 passes for 70 yards and led the Saints on a game-winning drive in the final seconds that ended with a Charlie Smith 37-yard field goal. Coach Dennis Allen liked what he saw from both Heaner and Rattler…

Former LSU Q-B Jayden Daniels was impressive in his preseason opener on Saturday as he led the Commanders on a touchdown drive in his only series of action. Daniels was two of three for 45 yads and completed a 42-yard pass. Daniels completed the drive with a three-yard touchdown run.

The Saints will face the Cardinals in the preseason opener for both teams on Saturday night. It remains to be seen if quarterback Derek Carr and some of the other key starters will play.

Even if Carr does play, expect the two main back-up quarterbacks on the roster to see plenty of snaps in the upcoming three preseason games, Jake Haener and rookie Spencer Rattler. Coach Dennis Allen on what he’s looking for….

The LSU Tigers landed a commitment on Friday from an in-state receiver. Speedy wide out Phillip Wright the Third gave his verbal pledge to the Tigers. The Destrehan star was previously committed to Michigan, but de-committed last week. Wright is five-foot-11, 175 pounds and he’s the third wide receiver commitment in the Class of 2025.

LSU also landed a commitment on Thursday from a four-star safety out of Nashville. CJ Jimcoily is the third defensive back to commit to LSU for the Class of 2025 in the last month.

Former LSU track star Sha’Carri Richarson won her first gold medal Friday as she took the baton on the final leg in the four by 100 and raced past the compeition to cross the finish line first. It’s the second medal for Richardson, who won the silver in the Paris Games in the 100 meters. The Summer Olympics come to a close on Sunday.

A four-star safety out of Tennessee has committed to LSU. C-J Jimcoily chose the Tigers over Alabama, Stanford, Tennessee, Michigan and Ole and others. He’s six-foot-three, 205 pounds and the Nashville native is the third defensive back to commit to the Tigers from the 2025 class.

The Pelicans say they will hold training camp in Tennessee from October 1st to the 6th at Belmont University. The team is holding training camp in Nashville, because their practice facility in Metairie is being renovated.

The Sun Belt Conference has announced league schedules for men’s basketball. The Ragin Cajuns will tip off Sun Belt play on December 18th against Appalachian State, last season’s regular season champs. ULM will begin league play at home on December 21st against Old Dominion. The Warhawks will travel to Lafayette on January 11th and a week later, the Cajuns will return the trip to Monroe.
