Now Kamara wants to see the Saints winning games again. They are on a five-game losing streak Coach Dennis Allen does not expect starting quarterback Derek Carr back for Sunday’s game against the Chargers, because of an oblique injury. Spencer Rattler will make his third consecutive start.

The Pelicans did not have Zion Williamson for the season opener because of an illness, but New Orleans still defeated Chicago Bulls 123 to 111 at the Smoothie King Center. CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram combined for 56 points, but ESPN is reporting that starting point guard Dejounte Murray fractured his left hand.

The eight ranked Tigers continue to prepare for their big SEC title against 14^th ranked Texas A-and-M. A&M’s strength is its ground game. The Aggies are 12th in the country in rushing yards per game, averaging 219 yards a game. Safety Sage Ryan says their focus is stopping the run…

LSU shut down Arkansas’ ground game last week and on Saturday night they will try to contain Aggies running back Le’Veon Moss. Moss, who played high school football at Istrouma in Baton Rouge, is second in the SEC in rushing with 674 yards.

In other action on Saturday…Southeastern Louisiana and UIW battle for first place in the Southland Conference in Hammond. Nicholls hosts McNeese. The Cowboys have not won in Thibodaux since 2015. Northwestern State hosts Lamar for homecoming. And ULM returns from a bye week to take on South Alabama in Mobile.

Louisiana Tech’s defense continues to play well and it led to a victory last night as the Bulldogs defeated UTEP 14 to 10 in what Coach Sonny Cumbie called an ugly win. Tech is now 2-and-2 in Conference USA and they’ll visit Sam Houston next Tuesday.

The biggest offseason addition for the Pelicans was Dejounte Murray, who was an off ball guard in Atlanta, but he’ll play point guard in New Orleans. New Orleans does not have a true center after losing Jonas Valanciunas in free agency.

Rumors about Alvin Kamara possibly getting traded have been put to rest as New Orleans and Kamara have agreed to a two-year contract extension that’s worth a reported 24.5 million dollars. Kamara’s contract keeps him in New Orleans through 2026. The Saints will be in Los Angeles this Sunday to take on the Chargers.

The new deal includes 22-million dollars in guaranteed money and it reportedly saves New Orleans 18-million dollars in salary cap space next year. Kamara wants to retire as a Saint and he’s less than 250 yards away from becoming the team’s all-time leading rusher.

An Amani Givens one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter put Louisiana Tech on top and the Bulldogs held on to beat Texas  El Paso 14 to 10. Tech’s defense held the Miners to 85 yards passing as Jakari Foster and Koble Fields each had 11 tackles.  The Bulldogs only rushed for seven yards, but they are now 2-and-2 in Conference USA action.

A new season kicks off tonight for the Pelicans as New Orleans hosts the Chicago Bulls. Zion Williamson is questionable with an illness, Dejounte Murray is also questionable for personal reasons and Jose Alvarado is also questionable with a right knee.

La Tech has dominated this series, winning ten of the 11 games played between the two schools as members of Conference USA.

Edna Karr is the newly ranked number one team in Class 5A. Neville, who defeated Ruston last Friday and ended the Bearkats 20-game winning streak is ranked second. Ruston is ranked third.

Many doubted that LSU football could contend for the SEC Championship this year, but now they are 3-and-0 in the SEC after victories over Ole Miss and Arkansas. Coach Brian  Kelly says he wants the players to focus on their preparation, not what the press is saying…

The eighth ranked LSU Tigers were big winners on Saturday night beating Arkansas 34 to 10. LSU started fast in Fayetteville with a touchdown on its opening drive. When Arkansas got back into the game, Tigers linebacker Whit Weeks had a huge interception to set up a Caden Durham touchdown. LSU finished the scoring with a 14-play, 80 yard drive late in the fourth quarter. Coach Brian Kelly says the Tigers played well from start to finish…

Nicholls linebacker Jake Dalmado has been named the Southland Defensive player of the week as he had three sacks in the Colonels shutout win over Northwestern State.

The Pelicans have reportedly signed forward Trey Murphy to a four-year, 112-million dollar contract extension. The former first round pick averaged a career high 15 points last year. He has a hamstring injury, so he will not be on the floor when New Orleans tips off the season on Wednesday against the Bulls.

Longtime LSU football staffer Charles Baglio died on Friday night when he was struck by a car on U-S Highway 51 in Tangipahoa Parish. Baglio was just involved in a wreck himself and was checking on another vehicle when he was struck and killed. Baglio was also a successful high school football coach at Independence. Former Independence Coach Keith Carona says Baglio made high school sports fun…
