LSU may have a bye week this week, but you wouldn’t know it by watching practice yesterday. Coach Brian Kelly said the team was on the field in full pads.

The Tigers next game is October 12th versus Ole Miss. The Rebels are at South Carolina on Sunday, trying to rebound from an upset loss to Kentucky.

Since the Saints play on Monday, they get another day off from practice today. The team will return to their practice facility on tomorrow to get ready to play the Kansas City Chiefs. The two-time Super Bowl defending champs are 4-and-0, but may have lost their top receiver Rashee Rice for an extended period of time. He suffered a knee injury and the extent of that injury is unknown.

The Pelicans have begun training camp. The team is spending this week in Nashville, Tennessee to prepare for the grind of a long season. General Manager Bryson Graham says 24-year-old Zion Williamson had a great offseason and is hungry to appear in his first postseason game…

Williamson missed the playoffs last year when he hurt his hamstring in the play-in game.

McNeese has announced they will play North Texas in men’s basketball this year. That game will take place November 18th in the Legacy Center.

UTEP is leaving Conference USA and will become an official member of the Mountain West Conference in July 2026.

Texas State has been offered to join the Mountain West Conference, but for now the Bobcats are staying in the Sun Belt.

The Saints are at Kansas City on Monday. The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs are 4-amd-0.

The LSU Tigers have a bye week. Their next game is October 12th against Ole Miss. The Rebels suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday as they were upset in Oxford by Kentucky. LSU Linebacker Whit Weeks was asked what affect that loss will have on their match-up in a week and a half…

Training camp is underway for the New Orleans Pelicans. This year’s Pelicans team lacks a true center, but general manager Bryson Graham says they make up for it, with size at the wing and guard positions…

Graham says 24-year-old Zion Williamson had a great offseason and is hungry to appear in his first postseason. This could be the final season for Brandon Ingram, as the 27-year-old enters the final season of his contract.

After four games, Lafayette Christian High School has fired head football coach Zach Lochard. The Knights have been to the state championship game seven years in a row, but they are off to a 1-and-3 start this season.

The Saints visit the 4-and-0 Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.

LSU has this Saturday off, giving the Tigers an extra week to improve before their much anticipated clash with Ole Miss on the night of October 12th. Coach Brian Kelly has been rotating several players in at safety, but now it’s time to pick two or three guys and let them be the guys to lead the back end of the defense…

The SEC has announced that the L-S-U Ole Miss game will kick off at 6:30.

This Saturday, the ULM Warhawks will host undefeated James Madison in what is one of the biggest games at Malone Stadium in years. Coach Bryant Vincent says it should be a special night in Monroe on Saturday night…

Southern Miss’s lone win was against Southeastern Louisiana and last time out they got drubbed by Jacksonville State 44 to 7.

McNeese football is also experiencing a resurgence. The Cowboys have won three in a row after beating Weber State 28 to 26 on Saturday. The Pokes are four and two and ranked 22nd in the STATS FCS poll. McNeese is at Houston Christian on Saturday.

Lafayette Christian has fired first-year coach Zach Lochard after 1-and-3 start. The Knights have played in seven straight state championship games.

A 58-yard field goal with two seconds left resulted in the Saints second consecutive loss as they dropped a heart breaker yesterday to the Atlanta Falcons, 26 to 24. The Dirty Birds did not score an offensive touchdown, but scored one touchdown on a muffed punt and the other came on a pick six. Coach Dennis Allen says it’s tough to lose a game like that…

Freshman running back Ahmad Hardy rushed for 106 yards on 27 carries to help the Warhawks defeat Troy 13 to nine. Hardy had the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter and Coach Bryant Vincent expected Hardy to be the focal point of their offense…

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for a career-high 409 yards in the Tigers 42-10 win over South Alabama on Saturday. Nussmeier threw two touchdown passes and had two rushing touchdowns. He also had two interceptions, the second one drew the ire of Coach Brian Kelly who got in the face of Nuss and let him know he made a poor decision. Garrett was fine with it…

The Tigers are off this Saturday and host Ole Miss on October 12th.

The ULM Warhawks are 3-and-1 for the first time since 2014 after going on the road and defeating two-time Sun Belt Conference Champion Troy 13 to 9. The only touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter on Ahmad Hardy’s one-yard touchdown run. Coach Bryant Vincent says his team is believing they can win anywhere…

The Cajuns Ben Woolridge and Tulane’s Darian Mensah are two of eight FBS quarterbacks recognized by the Manning Award as  “Stars of the Week. Both threw for three touchdowns on Saturday as U-L defeated Wake Forest 41 to 38 and Tulane routed South Florida 45 to 10.

After knocking off Weber State for its third straight win, McNeese is ranked in the Top 25, 22nd in the STATS FCS Poll and 24th in the coaches poll.

Brutal loss for the Saints in Atlanta on Sunday as the Falcons kicked a 58-yard field goal with two seconds left for a 26 to 24 win over New Orleans. It’s the second straight loss for quarterback Derek Carr and the Saints…

Cut 13 (10)  “…they sting”

New Orleans is now 2-and-2 and tied with the Falcons for second place in the NFC South. Tampa Bay is 3-and-1 after beating the Eagles yesterday.

 

LSU set the tone against South Alabama as early as early as can be, scoring on the first offensive play of the game and cruising to a 42-10 win at Death Valley. The opening score came on a 71-yard catch and run by freshman Caden Durham. Head Coach Brian Kelly says it was a great play call by Offensive Coordinator Joe Sloan.

Cut 16 (11)   “…hadn’t run before.”

Durham left the game with a foot injury, but Kelly says it’s not serious.

 

Louisiana Tech dropped its conference opener as the offense continues to struggle, despite the defense keeping them in games. FIU defeated the Bulldogs 17 to 10. But Coach Sonny Cumbie was encouraged by the play of quarterback Evan Bullock, who was making his first start. Bullock threw for 217 yards and Cumbie says he led the offense well…

Cut 20 (14) “…our conference” 

Tech doesn’t play again until October 10th at home against Middle Tennessee.

It was a much better Saturday for several other Louisiana schools. ULM defeated Troy in its Sun Belt opener to improve to 3-and-1. U-L Lafayette took down a Power Four school as the Cajuns outscored Wake Forest 41 to 38. Ben Woolridge threw three touchdowns, two of them went to Lance Legendre.

McNeese upended 25th ranked Weber State 28 to 26 to improve to 4-and-2. Grambling lost in five overtime to Prairie View A-and-M. Tarleton State topped Southeastern Louisiana 36 to 33 and Southeast Missouri state blanked Northwestern State 19 to 0. Tulane trounced South Florida 45 to 10.

South Alabama averages 48 points a game and averages 7.6 yards a play.

Saints linebacker Demario Davis has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Falcons. It’s the first time the 13-year vet will miss an NFL game due to an injury. The Pro Bowler will miss the game because of a hamstring injury. Offensive guard Cesar Ruiz will also miss Sunday’s game because of a knee injury. That means the Black and Gold are missing two starters on the o-line for this NFC South matchup.

Louisiana Tech begins Conference USA play on Saturday as they visit F-I-U. The Bulldogs have scored just eight offensive touchdowns in three games. Coach Sonny Cumbie admits players on offense are pressing to make big plays happen…

No word on who will start at quarterback. Jack Turner and Evan Bullock competed in practice this week to see who would be Q-B-1.

In other action on Saturday….the Ragin Cajuns will visit Wake Forest. Former Louisiana Tech Q-B Hank Bachmeier is the starting Q-B for the Demon Deacons.

Starting guard Cesar Ruiz might also miss Sunday’s game. He has not practiced this week because of a knee injury.

In high school football…impressive win for Catholic High of New Iberia last night as the Panthers defeated Notre Dame 42-28. Luke Landry tossed five touchdown passes.

Tonight, in New Iberia, it’s Westgate hosting Teurlings Catholic in a battle of unbeatens. Also, Pineville is at Leesville, West Monroe visits Catholic of Baton Rouge, Alexandria Senior High is at Opelousas, and St. Thomas More visits Neville.

The Saints will not have their alpha dog on offense for this Sunday’s game at Atlanta. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak referred to Erick McCoy as the offense’s alpha dog when he met with the media yesterday. McCoy is out at least the next six weeks with a groin injury. Lucas Patrick or Shane Lemieux, who was elevated from the practice squad this week could replace McCoy at center. Quarterback Derek Carr was asked about the situation…

And the Saints could be without one of their starting guards for Sunday’s game at Atlanta. Cesar Ruiz missed a second straight practice with a knee injury, but running back Alvin Kamara returned to practice yesterday after missing Wednesday’s workout with injuries to his hip and ribs.

The LSU Tigers will face a South Alabama team on Saturday night that’s scored 135 points in its last two games. Coach Brian Kelly says quarterback Gio Lopez can run it and throw it and the Jaguars leading rusher Fluff Bothwell is averaging nearly ten yards a carry…
