In the NBA…the Pelicans were without the injured Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson last night and lost to the Utah Jazz 100 to 96. The Jazz’s Gordon Hayward had 32 points, while Eric Gordon had 31 to lead the Pelicans, who lost their third consecutive home game. They host Indiana on Wednesday and then it’s the All-Star Break.

Northwestern State’s four game winning streak in men’s basketball ended last night as the Demons lost to Stephen F Austin 93-82. The Lumberjacks shot 53-percent from the field as they have now won 32 straight regular season games. Jalen West had 28 points for the Demons.

Former Alexandria Senior High standout Christavious Gill and Kevin Hill each scored 21 points as U-N-O defeated McNeese State 81-71. The Privateers shot 59-percent from the field in the victory.

In the SWAC…Alcorn State beat Grambling 91-77 and Jackson State knocked off Southern 62-52.

The LSU men’s basketball team has a chance to hand top ranked Kentucky its first loss of the season tonight. The two teams will square off in the Maravich Center at six P-M. Coach Johnny Jones knows his players are excited, but they’ll need to be focus when the ball is tipped…

Last night in Southland Conference basketball action, Stephen F. Austin blew past Northwestern St. 93-82. The Demons’ Jalen West lead all scorers with 28 as his team falls to 7-4 in league play. The Lumberjacks remain unbeaten in the Southland.

And UNO defeated McNeese State 81-71. Kevin Hill and Christavious Gill each had 21 to lead the Privateers, while the Cowboys were lead by Desharick Guidry and Keelan Garrett who each scored 20. Both teams now have a 3-8 conference record.

In the SWAC, Southern fell to Jackson State 62-52. The Jaguars were lead by Adrian Rodgers 15 points. The Jags fall to 8-3 in the league, two games behind conference leader Alabama State.

And Grambling remains winless in the conference after their 91-77 loss to Alcorn State. The Tigers were lead by A’Torri Shine’s 23 points. Grambling will next try for their first league win Saturday when they host Texas Southern.

The LSU Tigers are seeking a new wide receiver coach. Adam Henry has left the Tigers program as he’s been hired to the San Francisco 49ers staff. Henry has been with LSU the last three seasons and helped develop Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry into NFL stars.

Louisiana Tech has reportedly hired Karl Scott as its new safeties coach. Scott served as Southeastern Louisiana’s defensive coordinator last season.

In college hoops, LSU improved to 6-4 in the SEC by beating Alabama 71-60. Jordan Mickey scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the Tigers ended their two game losing skid. LSU hosts top ranked Kentucky tomorrow night.

In Conference USA, Louisiana Tech downed Middle Tennessee 73-62. The Bulldogs are now in a three-way tie for first in the league. Tech takes on Florida Atlantic Thursday night in Ruston.

ULM has regained the SunBelt Conference lead after defeating Georgia Southern 71-68. Thursday nigh, the Warhawks welcome UL-Lafayette who are coming off of an 84-69 loss to Texas-Arlington.

In the Southland, Nichols upended McNeese 70-59, it was Southeastern Louisiana over Abilene Christian 65-52, and Central Arkansas picked up their first win of the season over UNO 70-67.

And Anthony Davis is questionable for tonight’s game against Utah after injuring his shoulder in the Pelicans 107-72 loss to Chicago Saturday.

We thought the New Orleans Pelicans game last night against the Oklahoma City Thunder was headed into overtime, but Anthony Davis had other plans. Tough losses for LSU and Louisiana Tech on the hardwood last night. The Fighting Tigers began a three-game homestand by losing to one of the worst teams in the SEC. Auburn’s KT Harrell scored 28 points to lead the War Eagles to an 81-77 win over the Bayou Bengals.

UAB went on a 19-4 run in the second half to open up a close game and eventually win 80-60 over Louisiana tech. The Bulldogs scored just six points in the final 13 minutes and fall to 8-and-2 in Conference USA, a game back of first place Western Kentucky.

In the Sun Belt, ULM is a half game back of Georgia Southern after beating Arkansas Little Rock 77-61 for their third straight win. The Warhawks are at Georgia Southerntomorrow night. U-L Lafayette defeated Appalachian State 81 to 66. Hayward Register scored a career-high 20 points as he cashed in with six three-pointers.

LSU Baseball Coach Paul Mainieri has announced that freshman infielder Greg Diechman will miss the next four to six weeks because of a stress fracture in his foot. Deichman has been working at second and third base during preseason workouts.

NFL analyst Mike Detillier says A big story to watch for the Saints this offseason will be whether the team restructures quarterback Drew Brees’ contract. Brees is set to make almost 19-million dollars in 2015. Detillier says the Saints could decide to add a year or two to his contract in order to free up some salary cap space for this season…

The agent for Saints backup quarterback Luke McCown announced that his client is returning to the Black and Gold next season. He’s reportedly signed a one-year deal that will pay him 970-thousand dollars next year. The former Louisiana Tech QB has been with the Saints since the 2013 season.

Miley will reportedly receive 19-million dollars over the course of the deal and there is an option for fourth year.
