Louisiana Tech had an excellent opportunity to improve to 2-and-1 in Conference USA, but the Bulldogs lost in overtime to New Mexico State 33 to 30 last night. Tech had a game-winning 27-yard field goal blocked in the final seconds of regulation. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for New Mexico state.

Former LSU defensive back Greg Brooks Junior is unable to talk or walk according to his attorneys and now he’s suiting, LSU and Our Lady of the Lake and the physician who performed surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. The LSU women’s basketball team is ranked seventh in the AP Preseason Top 25 poll.

Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball will be without one of its best players for the season  six-foot-eight Hosana Kitenge for the year.

The Pelicans lost in preseason action last night, falling to the Houston Rockets 118 to 98. Jordan Hawkins led New Orleans with 20 points.

Arkansas Quarterback Taylen Green was injured in the Razorbacks big win over Tennessee. The Razorbacks did not play last Saturday, but Coach Sam Pittman is optimistic he’ll play this Saturday against the Tigers.

There is college football tonight as Louisiana Tech has a chance to improve to 2-and-1 in Conference USA by taking on a struggling New Mexico State team that has one of the worst offenses in college football. Kick-off is at 8 PM.

The popularity of Dennis Allen is at an all-time low among Who Dat Nation as the Saints are on a four-game losing streak. Allen’s predecessor, Sean Payton, will be back in the Superdome on Sunday as Payton’s Denver Broncos will take on the Black and Gold. Allen says it will be a challenge coaching against a New Orleans institution.

The Saints failed to land Davante Adams in a trade as he’s headed to the Jets. But New Orleans has signed veteran Dante Pettis who has 71 career receptions. Starting receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are both injured and could miss Thursday’s game.

No changes at the top of the high school football polls….Ruston, Teurlings Catholic, University High, Newman and Vermilion Catholic are ranked number one.

The LSU Lady Tigers are ranked seventh in the A-P Women’s basketball poll and for the first time ever McNeese is receiving votes in the Men’s A-P Top 25 poll.

What a difference a year makes when it comes to LSU’s defense. Ole Miss rolled up a school record 706 yards of offense against the Tigers last year, but they only reached the end zone twice last Saturday night. Coach Brian Kelly says the tackling was much better this time…

Sophomore linebacker Whit Weeks is the SEC defensive player of the week after his career-high 18 tackles and defensive end Bradyn Swinson was named the league’s defensive lineman of the week after picking up two more sacks. The Tigers are at Arkansas on Saturday night.

In women’s basketball, LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson and Aneesah Moore are the Preseason Co-SEC Player of the Year. The duo shared the honor with Texas’ Madison Booker. The preseason media poll has LSU finishing third, followed by South Carolina and Texas.

Seventeen players are listed on the injury report, but if New Orleans practiced yesterday, the Saints say Taysom Hill would have practiced. Allen also says Tyrann Mathieu will be fine after leaving yesterday’s game with a forearm injury.

Fresh off a win against Middle Tennessee last Thursday, Louisiana Tech is in action again tonight against New Mexico State. Bulldogs quarterback Evan Bullock was named Conference USA Player of the Week. Bullock accounted for six touchdowns last week and threw for 296 yards.

Three LSU players have received SEC Players of the Week Honors. Linebacker Whit Weeks is the defensive player of the week after recording a career-high 18 tackles. The Sun Belt men’s basketball preseason poll came out today, the Cajuns are picked to finish fourth, while ULM is picked to finish last.

 

For the first time ever, McNeese received votes in the Associated Press preseason Top 25. The Cowboys are coming off a 30-win season and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Pokes received 11 votes.

It was a game for the ages – LSU’s come from behind 29-26 overtime thriller over Ole Miss. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier called it the worst game of his career, completing less than 50 percent of his passes and throwing two interceptions. But Head Coach Brian Kelly says the offense never blinked..

It’s the fourth straight loss for New Orleans who gave up 594 total yards, second most in franchise history.

On Saturday, the Ragin Cajuns improved to 5-and-1 overall and 2-and-0 in the Sun Belt with a 34-24 victory over Appalachian State. U-L Lafayette scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Mountaineers. Coach Michael Desormeaux’s team has won in its last three games by ten points or less.

ULM is now 5-and-1 for the first time since 1987 after beating Southern Miss 38-21. The Warhawks are 3-and-0 in the Sun Belt. Southeastern Louisiana is 2-and-0 in the Southland after winning easily over Houston Christian 37 to 7.

Grambling is now 0-and-2 in the SWAC after losing to Alcorn State 17 to 15.

LSU moved up five spots to number 8 in the AP 25 poll after an exhilarating   29-26 victory over Ole Miss in overtime. LSU trailed most of the game, but tied it with 27 seconds left on a 23-yard Garrett Nussmeier touchdown pass to Aaron Anderson on a fourth downplay. And then Nussmeier threw a touchdown to Kryen Lacy for the game-winning score in O-T. But Coach Brian Kelly says it was the defense that gave them a chance to win…

Evangel quarterback Pop Houston threw for 767 yards and accounted for ten touchdowns, but the Eagles still lost last night as Captain Shreve outscored Evangel 77 to 76 in overtime.

ULM football is 4-1 for the first time since 1993 and the Warhawks are preparing to host Southern Miss tomorrow afternoon for Homecoming. The Warhawks are 2-0 in the Sun Belt, but Coach Bryant Vincent says this team has yet to accomplish any of its goals…
