The LSU Baseball team defeated UL Lafayette 6 to 3 last night to punch their ticket to Omaha. This is LSU’s 17th trip to the College World Series and first since 2013. Shortstop Alex Bregman says the Tigers can’t wait…

Tonight is another big night for Bregman as he’ll be selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft. Bregman is expected to be a top ten pick. Tigers center fielder Andrew Stevenson could also be a late first round pick and the same could occur for UL Lafayette shortstop Blake Trahan.

Who LSU will play in its first game in the College World Series will be determined tonight. They’lll face either Texas A-and-M or TCU. The Aggies and Horned Frogs face off tonight in Fort Worth in a winner take all contest.

Former Saints cornerback and Louisiana native Tracy Porter has signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears. This will be Porter’s eighth season in the NFL. Last year he only played in three games for the Redskins, because of injuries. Of course, he’ll always be remembered for his intercpetion of Peyton Manning and return for a touchdown when the Saints beat the Colts in the Super Bowl.

The Sun Belt–ESPN 3 announce their coverage for the first three weeks of the football season. In week two…ESPN will have coverage of the Ragin Cajuns game against Northwestern State and Nicholls State’s game against UL-Monroe will also appear on ESPN three. Both games will kick-off at six PM.

Southeastern Louisiana’s home game against Lamar has been moved to October first because of television. The game will be a part of the Southland’s television package. The Lions will play three Thursday night games this year. The season opener against Northwestern State and the regular season finale against Nicholls State on November 19th.

The Ragin Cajuns season ends with a record of 42-23. The College World Series kicks off Saturday.

A former Louisiana Tech defensive lineman stands accused in the 2013 death of his daughter in MIssissippi. Oren Lewis, who played for the Bulldogs in 2004 and 2005, is charged with capital murder and felony child abuse in the death of Ma’Leah Grace Bush. Lewis claims the baby fell out of bed while sleeping, which caused her injuries. However, authorities say medical reports and forensic studies shows the child’s injuries were not consistent with Lewis’ story. If convicted, Lewis could face the death penalty.

Last night was Game Two of the NBA Finals and, just like Game One, it went into overtime but this time with different results. This time Cleveland came out on top of Golden State 95-93 to even the best-of-seven series at one game apiece. LeBron James’ triple-double, 39 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists led the way for the Cavaliers. Klay Thompson pumped in 34 and league MVP Stephen Curry added 19 for the Warriors. Game Three is Tuesday night in Cleveland.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Tony Robichaux announced today that freshman right-hander Wyatt Marks will start tomorrow night in game one of the Super Regional series against LSU. Freshman left-hander Gunner Leger will start game two on Sunday.

Both teams met with the media today at Alex Box Stadium, after going through batting practice. Senior third baseman Tyler Girouard says there’s no bad blood between these two schools, even though the two fan bases have been going back and forth throughout the week…

There’s some bad news involving Saints pass rusher Junior Galette. He reportedly injured his pectoral muscle and may need surgery. If he undergoes surgery, Galette will not be be able to return until late in the season. Galette had ten sacks last season.

Many people in Louisiana watched last night’s Game One of the NBA Finals, which saw Golden State defeat Cleveland in overtime. There were an estimated 17.8 million viewers nationwide, which is the largest game one audience ever on ABC. But it’s likely that will be highest viewed game of the series, because the Cavs have announced Kyrie Irving is done for the finals after suffering a fractured kneecap.

Tickets are hard to come by for this weekend’s Super Regional series between LSU and UL Lafayette. The games are sold out, so you’re only option, if you want to get into Alex Box Stadium is the secondary ticket market. Stub-Hub’s Allison Salcedo says some of the best deals are right before gametime.

There’s some bad injury news invovling the New Orleans Saints. Pass rusher Junior Galette reportedly injured his pectoral muscle and may need surgery. If he undergoes surgery, he’ll miss a good portion of the season. Galette didn’t participate in yesterday’s O-T-A session and Anthony Spencer took most of the snaps as his replacement.

It’s day five of the competency hearing for Saints and Pelicans Owner Tom Benson. Benson’s right-hand man, Dennis Lauscha, testifies today. He’s a witness for Benson’s team of lawyers.

Andy Fox has been named the new director of basketball operations for Louisiana Tech. Fox has been at Tulane the five previous seasons as an assistant coach and director of operations.

And it’s a free fishing weekend, which means you don’t need a license to drop a line in one of Louisiana’s lakes, marshes or bayous. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries hopes the weekend will introduce newcomers and people with rusty skills to one of Louisiana’s most popular sports.

The LSU men’s golf team is back in Baton Rouge after winning the program’s first national championship in 60 years. The Tigers defeated USC in match-play to claim the title. Ben Taylor’s nine-foot par putt on 18 wrapped up LSU’s first men’s golf championship since 1955.

At Saints OTA, Coach Sean Payton talked about a simpler approach on defense. He says they are doing it to improve execution and reduce variables. Payton says it’s something they have to do, after giving up several big plays last season.

Also at Saints OTA, running back Mark Ingram didn’t participate. Payton says he’s resting a minor foot-slash-ankle injury.

Saints linebacker Junior Galette has suffered a pectoral injury that may require surgery. It is unclear how the injury occurred, but Galette is contemplating surgery that could sideline the five year veteran for part or all of next season.

Former LSU Tiger Trindon Holliday has inked a deal with the Oakland Raiders. Holliday played for three different teams in 2014, before being released by San Francisco 49ers.

The R-and-L Carriers New Orleans Bowl returns to primetime. This year’s game will be played on Saturday, December 19th at 8 PM in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Last year’s game, which featured UL-Lafayette for a third consecutive year, kicked-off at 10 A-M.

Meanwhile, the Pels have reportedly hired Darren Erman as the team’s associate head coach in charge of defense and New Orleans native Robert Pack as the backcourt specialist. Erman served as an assistant with the Celtics last season and Pack was with the Thunder.

The Girls Top 28 state basketball tournament is headed back to Hammond. That’s according to the result of a vote by the LHSAA Executive Committee, which also awarded the boys state basketball tournament to Lake Charles for two more years. Sulphur will continue to host the baseball tournament for another two seasons.
