LSU’s Tim Quarterman has been named the SEC men’s basketball Player of the Week. Quarterman had a triple-double in Saturday’s win over Ole Miss. The sophomore guard is only the third player in LSU to record a triple double. He had 18 points, ten rebounds and ten assists. The win gives LSU a 21-8 record and improves its chances of making the NCAA Tournament.

The Pelicans won their fifth straight last night as they defeated the Denver Nuggets 99 to 92. New Orleans remains a half game back of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Tonight the Pels are at Dallas, who is seeking its 40th win of the year. Tip-off is at 7:30.

The latest D-1 baseball rankings are out…LSU is number seven after sweeping Princeton. Tulane has cracked the rankings as the Green Wave are ranked 25th and they are 8-and-3 heading into tomorrow night’s game at Nicholls State.

ULM officials break ground today on a new facility that will be located behind the end zone at Malone Stadium. It will feature a new locker room, a Hall of Fame area and new coaches’ offices. Warhawks Coach Todd Berry says the facility will have an impact on their current players and recruiting…

The Pelicans have now won five in a row after defeating the Denver Nuggets last night 99-92. Tyreke Evans lead all scorers with 22. Eric Gordon threw in 18 as the Pels handed the Nuggets their tenth straight home loss. The Pelicans improve to 32-27 and trail Oklahoma City by a game and a half for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Pels are on the road again tonight to take on Dallas.

In College Baseball over the weekend, The UL-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns took two of three from 25th ranked Alabama after yesterday’s 14-2 victory over the Crimson Tide. The Cajuns improve to 6-5 on the season and host Northwestern State Wednesday.

The second ranked LSU Tigers swept Princeton at Alex Box Stadium. The three wins improves LSU to 10-1. LSU returns to action tomorrow night when they host Stephen F. Austin.

ULM swept Sam Houston State at Warhawk field. This is the Warhawk’s first three-game series sweep in nearly a year.

LA Tech took two of three this weekend from Oral Roberts. And Nicholls State defeated Utah 4-1 in their weekend series finale. The Colonels won three out of four against the Utes at Ray Didier Field.

ULM officials will break ground today on a new end zone building at Malone Stadium. It’s the first new athletic facility built on campus in 1983 and it will feature a new locker room, a Hall of Fame area and new coaches’ offices. Coach Todd Berry says the project has been a long time coming for the program….

Today is also the first day of spring football for the Warhawks.

In college basketball, LSU won their third straight after defeating Ole Miss 73-63. Jarell Martin and Tim Quarterman lead all scorers with 18 each.

It was Louisiana Tech over UT-San Antonio 76-66. All five Bulldog starters scored in double figures. Tech has a game and a half lead over UAB for the Conference USA lead.

UL-Lafayette upset Georgia Southern 68-58. And ULM lost to Appalachian State 66-43. Despite the loss, the Warhawks remain in a three way tie for first in the Sun Belt.

LSU and former defensive coordinator John Chavis have filed lawsuits against each other. At issue is whether Chavis owes LSU 400-thousand dollars. LSU claims he does, based on a buyout clause in his contract, but Chavis says he took the proper steps to avoid the buyout when he accepted the defensive coordinator position with Texas A & M.

On the baseball diamond…LSU opened a three-game series with Princeton with a three to two victory over the Ivy League school last night. Jake Fraley had a couple of hits and drove in a run and Jared Poche picked up the win on the mound. LSU and Princeton will play a doubleheader today at 4 pm, because of anticipated rainy weather on Sunday.

In other action yesterday…Alabama beat the Cajuns six to four and McNeese State defeated Texas San Antonio six to five in ten innings. For the second time in as many games Connor Lloyd had the game winning hit.

The 2015 football schedules have been released for UL Lafayette and ULM. The Ragin Cajuns will have two road games in a five day span as they’ll visit Georgia State on November 7th and then play South Alabama in Mobile on November 12th.

ULM has a non-conference game at Hawaii. So they’ll play 13 games this season, including road trips to Alabama and Georgia to begin the season on September 5th.

In the NBA…the Pelicans won their fourth straight last night as they defeated the Miami Heat 104-102. New Orleans won without Anthony Davis, but his back-up filled in nicely. Alexis Ajinca had a career-high 24 points and eight rebounds and also scored the winning bucket after getting a nice feed from Eric Gordon, who had 20 points.

College hoops….LSU hosts Ole Miss at one o’ clock today. Louisiana Tech hosts Texas-San Antonio, ULM is at Appalachian State, the Cajuns host Georgia Southern. And McNeese State hosts Nicholls State.

The question over whether former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis owes LSU money for leaving the Tigers following the 2014 season will be decided in the courts. Chavis has filed a lawsuit to determine if either him or Texas A-and=M owes LSU a 400-thousand dollar buyout. The suit claims Chavis doesn’t owe LSU the money, because he wasn’t officially hired by A-and-m until 30 days after he left LSU.

The 2015 Sun Belt Football schedules were finalized today. The Ragin Cajuns will play twice on national television. On a Tuesday night, October 20th, at Arkansas State and Thursday November 12th at South Alabama. ULM also has a road mid-week game on its schedule and that’s November 19th against Texas State and that’s a Thursday night.

Following a thrilling win over Southeastern Louisiana last night, the LSU baseball team is back at it tonight as they open a three game series against Princeton.

In the NBA tonight…the Pelicans host the Miami Heat. New Orleans has won three straight as recently acquired Norris Cole has been a good addition to the Pels. Cole will be facing his former team for the second time in a week.

The LSU men’s basketball team looks for its 10th conference win of the season tomorrow when they host Ole Miss. In Coach Johnny Jones first two seasons in Baton Rouge, LSU won nine league games each year…

Over five-thousand fans were inside the Thomas Assembly Center last night as Louisiana Tech extended its home winning streak to 27 games with a 77-60 win over UTEP. Redshirt sophomore Erik McCree had his second career double-double 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Bulldogs are now 13-and-3 in Conference USA and in first place.

ULM remains in a tie for first place in the Sun Belt after beating South Alabama 75-57 last night. Junior Justin Roberson had 18 points for the Warhawks, while Majok Deng had a double-double 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Wild game at Alex Box Stadium last night as second ranked LSU blew a six run lead but rallied with two runs in the eighth inning to beat Southeastern Louisiana nine to eight. Jake Fraley’s two run triple was the big hit in the eighth innings. The Seven and one Tigers host Princeton tonight at the Box.

The Pelicans will host the Miami Heat tonight at the Smoothie King Center. New Orleans trails Oklahoma City by one game in the loss column for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. O-K-C lost in overtime to Phoenix last night, despite a triple-double from Russell Westbrook.

The LSU men’s basketball team will host Ole Miss tomorrow at one o’ clock. Jarell Martin is averaging 16.5 points a game for the Tigers and had 25 points against Auburn on Tuesday night. LSU Coach Johnny Jones likes how the sophomore is playing…

Raheem Appleby and Kenneth Smith each scored 17 as Louisiana Tech drummed UTEP 77-60 last night in Ruston. Erik McCree added a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Bulldogs take over sole possession of first place in Conference USA. Tech is 22-7 on the season and 13-3 in conference play with two league games remaining on their schedule. The Bulldogs host Texas-San Antonio tomorrow night.

ULM got 18 points from Justin Roberson as they crushed South Alabama 75-57. Tylor Ongwae and Majok Deng each added 14 as the Warhawks improve to 19-9 overall and 13-4 in Sun Belt play. ULM remains tied with Georgia Southern for first place in the conference. The Warhawks remain on the road to take on Appalachian State Saturday.

Jake Fraley’s eighth inning two run triple lifted LSU to a 9-8 victory over Southeastern Louisiana last night at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers jumped out to a 7-1 lead before the Lions clawed back to take the lead in the seventh. LSU used six pitchers in the game with Collin Strall picking up the win. Pat Cashman will take the loss for Southeastern. The Tigers host Princeton for a weekend series beginning tonight at 7PM.

The LSU men’s basketball team looks to extend its winning streak to three games on Saturday when they host Ole Miss. The Rebels are led by five-foot-ten guard Stefan Moody, who is averaging 16 and a half points a game. Tigers Coach Johnny Jones Ole Miss likes to create shots for Moody by running him off screens…

The weather is forcing several changes to the college baseball schedule. ULM and Louisiana Tech will not play Friday, but they’ll host doubleheaders on Saturday.

Last night the Pelicans won their third straight, beating Brooklyn 102-96, Quincy Pondexter had 25 points to lead all scorers.

LSU and Southeastern Louisiana will face off in baseball tonight. Both teams will end up playing four games in four days as the Tigers host Princeton this weekend and the Lions will face the Big Ten’s Northwestern University. Tigers center fielder Andrew Stevenson is not expected to play tonight because of a tweaked hamstring.

The Ragin Cajuns baseball team heads to Birmingham today to face Alabama in a three-game series. Tomorrow’s game has been moved up three P-M, because it’s expected to be cold on Friday night.

There’s plenty of NFL news today. The Detroit Lions have released former Saints running back Reggie Bush. The 29-year-old was set to make over three-million dollars this season, but only rushed for 297 yards in 2014 as he battled an ankle injury.

The Falcons have signed kicker Matt Bryant to a contract extension. And there are reports that the Broncos and Quarterback Peyton Manning are working to restructure his current contract.

Big college basketball game tonight in Ruston as Louisiana Tech hosts UTEP with the winner taking over sole possession of first place in Conference USA. The Bulldogs have won 26 straight home games, while the Miners are the hottest team in the league, with a seven game winning streak. Last night the Pelicans won their third in a row as they got past Brooklyn 102-96. Quincy Pondexter’s career-high 25 points lead the Pels with Tyreke Evans adding a double-double of 15 points and 11 assists. The Pels will try to make it four in a row when Miami comes to the Big Easy tomorrow night.

The Detroit Lions released veteran running back Reggie Bush yesterday. This move is not a surprise as it saves Detroit $1.7 million against the salary cap this season. Last season Bush tallied 297 yards on 76 carries and caught 40 passes for 253 yards. Bush spent five seasons with the Saints from 2006-2010.

LSU’s baseball game against Southeastern Louisiana that was scheduled for last night will be played tonight at Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30.

The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters basketball team was to play at UTEP tonight, but that game has been postponed. Due to snow in the Ruston area yesterday, the team was unable to fly out for the game. However, the Techsters will travel today and the game will be played tomorrow afternoon at one o’clock. The team’s game Saturday, against Texas San Antonio, has been moved to Sunday.

The ULM men’s basketball team did travel safely to Mobile and they’ll play South Alabama tonight. The Warhawks are in a three-way tie for first place with Georgia Southern and Georgia State in the Sun Belt.

The LSU men’s basketball team avoided another bad loss on its NCAA Tournament resume when they beat Auburn 84-61 last night. The Tigers are now 20-and-8 overall, nine and six in the SEC. LSU’s next game is Saturday at home against Ole Miss. The Tigers beat the Rebels on their home floor earlier this season and Tiger Rag Editor Cody Worsham says it will not be easy to sweep the season series…

LSU’s baseball game against Southeastern Louisiana scheduled for tonight has been postponed. The two teams will play tomorrow night at Alex Box Stadium, with first pitch set for 6:30 PM.

Tonight the Pelicans host the Brooklyn Nets at the Smoothie King Center. Both teams are battling to get in the playoffs. The Nets currently occupy the final playoff spot in the East, as they have a one-game lead over Charlotte. The Pels are two and a half games back of Oklahoma City for the final playoff spot in the West.

Because of the snow that hit Ruston today, the Lady Techsters basketball team was not able to fly out for tomorrow night’s game against UTEP. So instead, LaTech will bus to Dallas, fly to El Paso on Thursday morning and play UTEP Friday afternoon at one o’ clock. Also there game Saturday, against Texas San Antonio, has been moved to Sunday.

The snow will not prevent tomorrow night’s game between La Tech and UTEP on the men’s side. Those two teams will still battle for first place in Conference USA. The Bulldogs have won 26 straight games at home.

Also, the ULM men’s basketball team traveled safely to Mobile and they’ll play South Alabama tomorrow night. The Warhawks are in a three-way tie for first place with Georgia Southern and Georgia State in the Sun Belt.
