LSU will host Xavier on Tuesday and then SEC play starts with a series against Missouri.

A former LSU standout has been traded to the Saints. Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux should help improve the Saints’ run defense. New Orleans has reportedly sent a seventh-round pick in 2026 to New England to acquire Godchaux. The 30-year-old from Plaquemine was a durable player in New England and has 250 tackles and 5.5 sacks during his NFL career.

And legendary high school football coach Red Franklin has passed away at the age of 89. Franklin guided Haynesville to 11 football state championships.

The Ragin Cajuns have hired a New Orleans native as their new head men’s basketball coach. Quannas White has been an assistant at Houston for the last eight years and the associate head coach for the last two years. He’ll be formally introduced on Monday.

 

The LSU women’s basketball team has the next couple of weeks off and they can use it. Flau’Jae Johnson did not compete in the SEC Tournament because of a shin injury and Aneesah Morrow left Saturday night’s loss to Texas with an ankle injury. Mikaylah Williams had 11 points in the 56-49 defeat to the Longhorns and feels like she let her team down…

LSU will learn of its seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night.

 

At the Southland Men’s basketball tournament in Lake Charles, Southeastern Louisiana was eliminated with a 71 to 67 loss to UIW yesterday. Tonight, Northwestern state hosts A-and-M Corpus Christi and Nicholls hosts UIW.

The number one ranked LSU baseball team hit six home runs on their way to a 13 to 2 run rule victory over North Alabama. Daniel Dickinson hit his fifth home run. Steven Milam hit his third home run. Luis Hernandez and Tanner Reaves each hit their first home runs. John and Josh Pearson also homered. Kade Anderson allowed one run over six innings and fanned eleven. Because of the potential for rain late in the day, today’s game will start at noon.

It was a wild game last night in Lafayette as 21st ranked Dallas Baptist scored three runs in the ninth to take a five to three lead, only to see the Ragin Cajuns strike back for three runs in the bottom of the ninth for a six to five win over the Patriots. Luke Yuhasz’s two run double was the game-winning hit.

Louisiana Tech led six to nothing heading into the ninth inning and had to hold on to a six to five win over South Alabama.

Today is the start of spring practice for LSU and Kyle Williams is expected to be on the practice field as the Tigers new defensive line coach. According to the Advocate, Williams will make 700-thousand dollars this year, 775-thousand dollars next year and 850-thousand dollars in the final year of his three year contract.

The LSU women’s basketball team defeated Florida 101 to 87 in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. The 101 points are the most by an LSU team in the SEC Tournament Aneesah Morrow had 36 points and 14 rebounds. LSU will play Texas in the semifinals.

At the girls high school basketball tournament, Fairview won its 16th state championship, Lafayette Christian its fifth in a row, Wossman won its fourth in a row, Simpson its first since 2001 and Lakeview won its first ever state championship by beating Arcadia 38 to 34.

Former star LSU defensive tackle Klye Williams has reportedly been hired as the Tigers new defensive line coach. Williams was an all-American player for the Tigers in 2005, played on the 03 national championship team and went on to play 13 seasons with the Buffalo Bills in the NFL. Williams was Ruston High’s defensive coordinator from 2020 to 2024 and his former teammate at LSU, Marlon Favorite, says Williams can certainly coach on the college level…

Spring football beings tomorrow for the Tigers and Williams is expected to be on the practice field and overseeing defensive line drills.

Dennis Skains is leaving Cecilia after leading the Bulldogs to a state championship last December. Skains is taking an assistant head coaching job at East Ascension.

 

LSU’s most experienced pitcher will not pitch this weekend in the series against North Alabama. Gavin Guidry continues to nurse a mid-body injury and Coach Jay Johnson hopes Guidry can be ready for SEC play which starts next week.

Louisiana Tech will host South Alabama for a weekend series starting at 4 PM. The Ragin Cajuns will host 21st ranked Dallas Baptist. U-L Lafayette is 6-and-7 on the year. ULM will attempt to snap a four-game losing streak when the Warhawks host UT Arlington.

McNeese is at Houston Christian. Both teams are 3-and-0 in league play and Northwestern State hosts U-I-W.

LSU is reportedly hiring former all-american Kyle Williams as its new defensive line coach. Williams was on the 2003 LSU national championship team, an All-SEC performer the next two season and then played 13 seasons in the NFL, making six pro bowls. He most recently was the defensive coordinator at Ruston High School, helping the Bearcats win a state title in 2023.

Dennis Skains just led Cecilia High School to a state championship in football but Skains is leaving the Bulldogs to be an assistant coach at East Ascension.

LSU baseball begins a weekend series tonight against North Alabama. Coach Jay Johnson says junior relief pitcher Gavin Guidry is still not ready to take the mound as he continues to recover from back-mid-body injury…

The LSU women’s basketball team will face Florida in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament tonight. The Lady Tigers will be without first-team All-SEC guard Flau’Jae Johnson as she battles shin inflammation. Lady Tigers color analyst Shaeeta Williams says coach Kim Mulkey won’t risk her star’s health for the conference tournament.

In the Sun Belt women’s tournament, the Cajuns were eliminated with a two point loss to Marshall. The Lady Techsters fell to New Mexico State in regular season action, 87 to 80. The Louisiana Tech men only scored 19 points and lost to New Mexico State 67 to 55.

In the girls state basketball tournament…Huntington and Parkway advanced to their respective state title games.

After allowing North Dakota State to build a seven to one lead on Tuesday night, before the Tigers came back for a nine-to-seven-win, LSU scored seven runs in the first inning on their way to 13 to 3 victory over North Dakota State last night. It’s the fourth straight game the Tigers have scored 11 runs or more. Jared Jones hit two home runs and William Schmidt allowed one run over four innings.

For the second straight night, Louisiana Tech won big over Nicholls. The Bulldogs won 19 to 0 on Tuesday night and last night it was 10 to nothing. Tech will host South Alabama this weekend, while the Colonels will try to end a seven game losing streak against Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi.

The Ragin Cajuns defeated U-N-C Wilmington seven to six. Luke Yuhasz broke out of a 4 for 27 slump with a couple of hits including a home run.

ULM dropped a pair of games to third ranked Arkansas, while LSU softball beat ULM 12 to 4.

The Cajuns men’s basketball team’s season ended last night with a 67 to 49 defeat to tenth seeded Old Dominion in the Sun Belt Tournament. The search for a new coach can really ramp up as U-L Lafayette finished this season with a 12 and 21 record under interim head coach Derrick Zimmerman.

McNeese is looking for a new women’s basketball coach as Lynn Kennedy is out after four seasons. The Cowgirls were 10 and 21 this season.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball is looking to pack the TAC tonight as the Bulldogs host New Mexico State. Tech is coming off 24-point win over Sam Houston and they are now 8-and-8 in league play. The Aggies are 9-and-7 in Conference USA and they’ve won four of their last five.

There was drama in Tuesday night’s win over North Dakota State, but no drama last night as the top ranked LSU Tigers scored seven times in the first inning on their way to a 13-3 run rule win. Derek Curiel scored the game’s first run and then drove in two to complete the seven-run inning. Jared Jones hit two home runs, a three-run shot in the third inning and a two-run blast in the fifth inning and William Schmidt got the win on the mound.

 

Louisiana Tech once again easily handled Nicholls, beating the Colonels ten to nothing. It’s the first time since the 2021 season that the Dogs shut out the same opponent in back to back games. Luke Nichols tossed five shutout innings. Tech will host South Alabama this weekend.

 

ULM baseball lost two games to third-ranked Arkansas yesterday. And ULM softball lost in Baton Rouge, falling to fourth-ranked LSU 12 to 4, as Tori Edwards hit two home runs.

The search for a new men’s basketball coach at U-L Lafayette can get going now. The Cajuns season ended last night with a 67 to 49 loss to Old Dominion in the Sun Belt Tournament. U-L Lafayette finishes the year with a 12 and 21 record, 8-and-10 in the Sun Belt. Bob Marlin was fired at the start of conference play. Derek Zimmerman did an admirable job as an interim coach, but the Cajuns will likely look elsewhere for a new head coach.

 

At the girls state basketball tournament…Avery Ryan scored 15 points and had 19 rebounds as Cedar Creek defeated J-S Clark 47 to 44 to improve to 28-and-3 and advance to the Division 4 select state championship game, where they’ll play the Southern Lab Kittens.

 

The last game of the day had the biggest upset…as seventh seeded Doyle knocked off third seeded Sterlington 52 to 48 in Division 3 non-select semifinals. The Hornets will play Wossman on Friday night for the championship.

The Saints have released running back Jamaal Williams after two unproductive seasons in New Orleans. Williams only rushed for 470 yards with the Black and Gold and his release saves the team one-point-six million dollars toward the salary cap.

Missouri defensive line coach Al Davis has emerged as the top candidate to replace Bo Davis, who left LSU for the Saints. Davis played at Arkansas and he’s been assistant coach at Mizzou since the 2021 season.

The Ragin Cajuns eliminated ULM from the Sun Belt Tournament with a 73 to 69, ending the coaching career of Warhawks coach Keith Richard, who is retiring. U-L Lafayette will face 10th seeded Old Dominion tonight.

At the girls high school basketball tournament in Hammond, Cedar Creek advanced to the Division Four select state championship game with a tight 47 to 44 win over J-S Clark. Cedar Creek will play either Southern Lab or Ouachita Christian in the state title game.

The first few innings were ugly for the Bayou Bengals, five walks, four wild pitches and three errors. But the Tigers got some good pitching from Chandler Dorsey, Zac Cowan and Casan Evans and clutch hitting from Steven Milam, who had a two-run double in the eighth inning to snap a nine-nine tie. Shortstop Steven Milam’s two-run double in the eighth inning snapped a nine-nine tie. Reliever Zac Cowan threw 2.2 innings out of the bullpen to get the win. Casan Evans earned his third save.

Some blow outs in college baseball yesterday. Louisiana Tech blanked Nicholls 19 to nothing. Northwestern State LeTourneau 18 to 1, and McNeese beat Dillard 19 to 6 in seven innings. ULM was losing to third ranked Arkansas ten to one when the game was suspended in the seventh inning because of inclement weather. The game will resume at 2 PM today in Fayetteville.

Last night marked an end of a career for ULM men’s basketball coach Keith Richard as the Warhawks lost in overtime to U-L Lafayette in the opening round of the Sun Belt Tournament 73 to 69. Richard is retiring. The Cajuns advance to play Old Dominion tonight at 7:30.

The LSU men’s basketball team suffered a blowout loss to Kentucky 95 to 64. Just one more regular season game left for the Tigers who are now 3 and 14 in the SEC.

At the girls high school state basketball tournament…semi-final action….Lafayette Christian, Oak Grove, Bell City, Fairview and Wossman were all winners.

The Top ranked LSU baseball team begins a two-game midweek series against North Dakota State tonight. Tigers right-handed pitcher Casan Evans was named the Southeastern Conference co-freshman of the week. The Houston product recorded a save against nationally ranked Dallas Baptist and got the win in Friday’s extra innings victory over Kansas State. Evans was also a very good high school shortstop, but he’s only focusing on pitching at LSU….

LSU should not have much trouble beating the Bison as they have only one win on the season.

In women’s hoops, LSU’s Big 3 were all named first-team All SEC performers. Aneesah Morrow, Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams all average around 18 points a game. The Lady Tigers’ next game is Friday in the SEC Tourney.

The McNeese men’s basketball team finished off the regular season last night with a 95 to 64 win over Stephen F Austin. The Cowboys be the top seed in next week’s Southland Tournament in Lake Charles.

Northwestern State is the four seed and has a first round bye after beating UIW 73 to 57. Second year Demons head coach Rick Cabrera said on ESPN-plus they finally put two halves together…

Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls both lost yesterday. Grambling lost its third straight, falling to Bethune Cookman 78 to 71.

Tonight, the LSU men’s basketball team begins the final week of the regular season by visiting 16th ranked Kentucky. The Tigers have lost three in a row.

The Pelicans visit the Lakers. The Pels are 4-and-2 since the All-Star Break. L-A is six and one. Tip off is at 9:30.
