LSU opens an SEC series in College Station tonight when they face Texas A-and-M. The Aggies have yet to win a league series this season and they are 3-and-6. They have a team ERA of 4.68 in conference games. Meanwhile, LSU’s bullpen hasn’t allowed a run in 29.1 innings. First pitch is at 7 PM.

22nd ranked Louisiana Tech will also be in Texas this weekend as the Bulldogs begin a three-game series tomorrow night against the U-T-S-A Roadrunners. For the first time since 1992, the Bulldogs have won the first three series to start league play.

The Ragin Cajuns split their midweek series with Southern Miss as UL Lafayette won game two seven to four last night. The Cajuns begin a five-game homestand tomorrow night when they host Texas-Arlington.

After getting swept by Arkansas in a midweek series, ULM opens a Sun Belt series tomorrow night against Texas State. The Warhawks are 4-5 in league play, the Cajuns are 3-6.

Cornerback Donte Jackson ran a 4.31 in the 40-yard dash at LSU’s pro day. That’s just a tad faster of the time he ran in Indianapolis at the NFL combine. Jackson says not only is he fast, but he’s also a smart football player after spending time in Dave Aranda’s defense….

The Saints have resigned Michael Mauti to a one year contract. The former Mandeville High star played in 11 games last season and recorded 11 tackles.

The Pelicans snapped a four-game losing streak last night with a dominating win over Memphis.

A year ago at this time, LSU edge rusher Arden Key was projected as a top first round draft choice. But now draft analysts say Key might not be selected until the third round. He didn’t have a great 2017 season, after taking a leave of absence from the team last spring. Key wouldn’t tell reporters why he left last year, but believes his explanation has satisfied NFL teams

The 17th ranked LSU baseball team begins a three-game series tonight against 19th Texas A-and-M. Sophomore Zack Hess starts for the Tigers. He’s 4-3 with a 4.93 ERA. LSU’s bullpen has turned into a huge weapon. They have not allowed a run in eight games.

The Pelicans snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Memphis 123 to 95 last night. The victory puts New Orleans into a tie for seventh place in the Western Conference with Minnesota. Both the Pels and T-Wolves are one game ahead of Denver, who is in ninth place. Anthony Davis had 28 points last night and New Orleans is in action again on Friday in Phoenix.

Back to college baseball….the Ragin Cajuns defeated 12th ranked Southern Miss seven to four to split a midweek series. Senior Kennon Fontenot reached base five times and extended his hitting streak to nine games. Zach LaFleur had two hits and drove in two runs.

Louisiana Tech was held to three hits in a 2-1 loss to Little Rock. McNeese defeated LSU-Alexandria nine to four as Carson Maxwell drove in four runs.

Nicholls crushed Arkansas-Pine Bluff 14-1 and Arkansas blanked ULM 4-0, as the Warhawks dropped two in Fayetteville.

NFL front office personnel and a couple of head coaches were on hand for LSU’s pro day today. Draft analyst Mike Detillier believes running back Derius Guice will be a first round pick later this month, but pass rusher Arden Key was at one time considered a first round draft choice and has slipped on draft boards….

Key left the program last spring to deal with personal issues. His ran the 40 today at a disappointing 4.8 and some draft analysts say he’s likely a third round pick now. Key admits he’s been asked some tough questions by NFL teams…

ULM begins a two-game series versus Arkansas tonight at Baum Stadium. The Ragin Cajuns wrap up a six-game road trip when visit 12th ranked Southern Miss. UL Lafayette has won seven of the last nine meetings between the two schools. 22nd ranked Louisiana Tech’s game against Grambling State has been postponed because of the severe weather threat tonight. Tech will host Little Rock tomorrow.

A bill that would give voters the opportunity to decide if they would want legalized sports betting at establishments that already have gaming passes out of a Senate committee. Jeff Palermo has the story…

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Britanny have filed a lawsuit against a San Diego jeweler claiming the business scammed them out of nine-million dollars over a seven year period by grossly over charging them for diamonds. An attorney for the jeweler says his client did nothing wrong. According to the suite, the diamonds were supposed to appreciate in value, but did not.

The college baseball season is at the halfway point. The Fighting Tigers have an RPI of 81 and they’ll host Nicholls tonight. 21st ranked LSU is 18-and-11 on the season and Coach Paul Mainieri says they need to take midweek games seriously….

The Colonels bring a 9-and-18 record to the Box tonight. But they are playing much better after losing 10 of their first 11 games.

Louisiana Tech is ranked 22nd in the Division One poll. The Bulldogs were scheduled to play Grambling State tonight, but that game has been postponed because of the weather forecast tonight. Tech will be in action again tomorrow at home against Little Rock.

A senate committee has approved a bill that would legalize sports gambling in Louisiana. The measure would allow gamblers to make sports bets at existing gaming facilities, including restaurants and bars that have video poker machines. The legislation could be sent to Senate Finance, because of the costs associated with regulating it.

With five regular season games left, the Pelicans are fighting to make the playoffs. New Orleans lost to Oklahoma City 109 to 104 last night and the Pels are just one game ahead of Denver for the final playoff spot in the West. New Orleans has a very winnable game on Wednesday when they host Memphis, who has the second worst record in the league.

Former LSU golfer Sam Burns is a winner on the Web.com tour as he finished strong to win the Savannah Golf Championship in Georgia. Burns birdied four of his last five holes to finish 21-under for the tournament. The Shreveport native is fourth on the Web.com tour money list.

Former LSU football coach Les Miles will appear in a film inspired about the 1986 Challenger explosion called Angry Men. It will be released in June. Miles will play a NASA chief and he’s taking his acting career very seriously. He’s been taking lessons and is hoping to land more roles.

LSU freshman right-hander Ma’Khail Hilliard has been named SEC Baseball-Co-Freshman of the week. Hilliard fired six shutout innings on Saturday in a 4-0 win over Mississippi State on Saturday. Hilliard was in a jam in the first inning thanks to a walk and a fielding error. The right-hander from Central says he doesn’t let mistakes in the field bother him…

After winning a series over F-I-U, Louisiana Tech is ranked 22nd in the D-1 poll, with a record of 22 and 8, 7-and-2 in Conference USA. The Bulldogs visit a red hot Grambling team tomorrow and host Little Rock on Wednesday.

In the Tigers last game, freshman Ma’Khail Hilliard delivered another sensational performance in 4-0 win over Mississippi State. Coach Paul Mainieri says Hilliard’s ability to pitch out of trouble has been impressive…

After losing to Oklahoma City last night, there’s just five games left in the regular season for the Pelicans, who occupy the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. New Orleans has just a one game lead over Denver, who is in ninth place.

Former LSU football coach Les Miles is dipping his toes into the film industry, looking to take his distinctive character to the silver screen. Patrick Mulhearn a Senior Director at Louisiana Economic Development says the transition from pigskin to productions should be smooth for the Mad Hatter.

After losing 109 to 104 to the Oklahoma City Thunder last night, the Pelicans have fallen to the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings, just one game ahead of Denver. New Orleans committed 21 turnovers and the Thunder were led by Russell Wesbrook who had 27 points, while Paul George had 26. Anthony Davis had 25 for the Pels.

It appears Les Miles coaching career is over as very few schools have shown interest in the Mad Hatter. But a new career for the former LSU coach is developing and that is acting. Patrick Mulhearn, a Senior Director at Louisiana Economic Development, says being a team player will take him far in the business…

Grambling State leads the SWAC Western Division as the Tigers topped Texas Southern nine to eight yesterday.

LSU and Mississippi State resume their SEC West baseball series tonight at 7 PM at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers scored seven runs in the seventh inning last night in a 10-1 romp over the Bulldogs, who fell to 1-6 in SEC play. LSU is 4-3 in SEC action and they’ll send Caleb Gilbert to the hill tonight.

In the Sun Belt, ULM is at Texas-Arlington. The Warhawks are looking to even up their series with the Mavericks. The Cajuns are trying to do the same after losing a heart breaker at Arkansas State last night. The Red Wolves rallied back from a three-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth to win 8-7 in 12 innings.

Grambling State hosts Texas Southern as those two teams battle for first place in the SWAC West division.

And in nearby Ruston, Louisiana Tech hosts F-I-U. The Bulldogs fell out of first place in Conference USA after losing to the Panthers nine to seven.

The Pelicans can sweep the season series versus the Cavaliers with a win tonight over Cleveland. New Orleans beat the Cavs back on October 28th, but both teams look much different now. The Pels no longer have DeMarcus Cousins and Cleveland’s roster was completely overhauled at the trade deadline.

Nicholls has named Austin Claunch as its new head men’s basketball coach. Claunch has served as an assistant the last two years.

Former NBA and LSU star Shaquille O’ Neal has committed to donating cash to help Lafayette High School build a new weight room. The school is looking to raise 42-thousand dollars and Mighty Lions head football coach Rob Pool says the donation will go a long ways towards fixing a crucial part of the athletics program….

The 21st ranked LSU baseball team busted out of its hitting slump by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning during a 10-1 win over Mississippi State. Zach Watson, Austin Bain, Daniel Cabrera and Jake Slaughter each drove in two runs on the night. Starting pitcher Zach Hess was also very good, as he struck out 10 and gave up just three hits in 6.2 innings.

Also last night, FIU scored three runs in the ninth inning to beat Louisiana Tech nine to seven. The Bulldogs fall to 5-2 in Conference USA play.

McNeese pitchers walked 10 hitters in a 5-4 loss to Southeastern Louisiana last night. Cody Grosse had three hits for the Lions and Corey Gaconi was the winning pitcher.

UT Arlington beat ULM 5 to 2 and the Ragin Cajuns blew a three-run lead in the 9th inning and lost to Arkansas State eight to seven in 12 innings.

Arizona walloped Nicholls 11-3 and UNO outscored A-and-M Corpus Christi 13 to 8.

The Pelicans will battle LeBron James and the Cavaliers tonight on ESPN in Cleveland. New Orleans is fighting for home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They trail San Antonio and Oklahoma City by a half game for fourth place. A playoff spot is also far from locked up. New Orleans is only two games better of the Clippers, who are in ninth place.

Former LSU and NBA star Shaquille O’ Neal has pledged to help Lafayette High School remodel its weight room. Shaq delievered this message that confirmed his commitment….
