In Lafayette, Texas State shot 39 free throws and made 33 of them and defeated the Cajuns 89 to 74. The Bobcats were led by Tylan Pope from Franklinton, who was 13 of 14 form the line and finished with game high 25 points.

The Pelicans are at Memphis tonight and Zion Williamson will not play. He had a non-COVID illness this week and the team says he needs to recondition from the illness. Brandon Ingram is also out. He’s missed 20 straight games because of a left ankle sprain.

U-L Lafayette men’s basketball six game winning streak over Texas State ended yesterday as the Bobcats defeated the Cajuns 89 to 74. U-L Lafayette shot 39-percent from the field while Texas State shot 64-percent from the field and was 33 of 39 from the free throw line.

UL Lafayette and Louisiana Tech women’s basketball also lost.

Jordan Crawford and Al Green came back from injuries to combine to score 22 points as Louisiana Tech men’s basketball defeated Western Kentucky 77 to 67. Coach Talvin Hester….

Now that the snow is melting away, the Saints can resume their search for a new head coach. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver will have an in-person interview tomorrow, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka talks with the Saints brass on Saturday and Former Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy will be in town next week.

Three former LSU Tigers are up for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. They are quarterback Jayden Daniels and receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Junior.

Daniels is preparing to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game. It will be third meeting this season between the division rivals, with each team winning on its home field. Daniels says they’ll have to make adjustments on the fly…

The LSU women’s basketball team flew out of Baton Rouge today ahead of its top five matchup against South Carolina at 4 PM. The Gamecocks are defending national champs and ranked second this year. Their only loss came against UCLA in November. Reed Darcey covers LSU for the Baton Rouge Advocate and says one of the Gamecocks best strengths is their depth, three of their top five scorers come off the bench…

In action earlier today….Western Kentucky defeated the Lady Techsters 69 to 61. La Tech shot just 36-percent from the field and they were 4-of-21 from three point territory. Tech falls to 4-and-3 in Conference USA.

Tonight at the Thomas Assembly Center, the Louisiana Tech men’s team hosts Western Kentucky looking to snap a two-game losing streak.

Now that the snowstorm has passed, the Saints head coaching search can resume. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver will have an in-person interview tomorrow, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will have an in person interview with the Saints on Saturday. Former Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy is expected to interview in New Orleans next week.

This Sunday is the NFC and AFC Championship games with the winners advancing to Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans on February ninth. Many Louisiana sports fans are rooting for Jayden Daniels and the Commanders who play the Eagles on Sunday afternoon. Daniels on the team’s chemistry…

This game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but last week they moved it back a day, because of the developing winter storm. Tuesday’s record snowfall disrupted the Cajuns’ preparations for today’s game, but interim head coach Derrick Zimmerman says that’s no excuse…

One of the Saints top head coaching candidates has found a job elsewhere. Aaron Glenn has been named the new head coach of the New York Jets. Glenn played for eight seasons for the Jets and eventually finished his 15-year playing career in New Orleans in 2008. Glenn was also the Saints secondary coach from 2016 through 2020 and was hired as the Lions defensive coordinator in 2021.

The winter storm has led to the postponement of tonight’s LSU women’s basketball game and last night’s Pelicans game. New Orleans was scheduled to host Milwaukee last night, but because of the numerous road closures, that game will be played at a later date. The Lady Tigers Top five matchup against South Carolina was moved from tonight to Four-PM on Friday.

And ULM’s men’s basketball game against South Alabama has been postponed until Monday night. A 6:30 tip time at Fant Ewing Coliseum. The Warhawks home game against App State will be played on Saturday at 2 PM.

 

The Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball team hosts Texas State at 3 PM today. Both teams are 4-and-3 in Sun Belt play. U-L Lafayette interim head coach Derrick Zimmerman says one of the Bobcats’ best players is Tylan Pope from Franklinton….

Louisiana Tech begins a three game-home stand tonight when they host Western Kentucky at 6 PM in a game televised by CBS Sports Network. The Bulldogs dropped two close games on the road last week to fall to two and four in Conference USA play. Tech has already matched its conference loss total from last year and Coach Talvin Hester says they have not been as good on the defensive end of the court…

One of the top candidates for the Saints head coaching job has found a job elsewhere. The New York Jets have hired Aaron Glenn to be their next head coach. Glenn became a hot head coaching candidate because of his work as defensive coordinator for the Lions. Before he went to Detroit, Glenn was an assistant coach for the Saints and played one season in New Orleans, which helped make him one of the top candidates to replace the fired Dennis Allen.

Tuesday’s record snowfall event is keeping the LSU women’s basketball team from traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, so the game against the Gamecocks has postponed from Thursday night to Friday at 4 PM. The fifth ranked Lady Tigers are 20-and-0, while South Carolina is 18-and-1.

Many of the major roads remain snow covered in New Orleans, so tonight’s Pelicans-Bucks game has been postponed. It has yet to be determined when the game will be played. The Pels next game is Friday at Memphis.

College football coaching legend Nick Saban said on the Pivot Podcast hosted by former LSU Tiger and NFL star Ryan Clark that the biggest professional mistake he made was leaving LSU. Saban says he enjoyed his two seasons as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, but found out he enjoyed coaching college athletes better and knew that in his heart before leaving LSU….

The historic snowstorm that hit south Louisiana on Tuesday is making it difficult for the Lady Tigers to travel to Columbia, South Carolina, so an extra day is needed.

LSU enters the SEC showdown with a 20-0 record, while the defending national champion Gamecocks are 18-1.

Host of the Locked on Saints podcast, Ross Jackson, says Rizzi is in the mix, but there are other candidates who might have a better chance at getting the job…

The snowstorm has delayed the Saints efforts to meet with head coaching candidates in person. New Orleans was set to talk with Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka today and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver tomorrow. Those two interviews have been pushed back to later in the week. The Saints are also planning to meet with former Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy.

Ohio State won the first four-team college football playoff in 2014 and the Buckeyes are the champions of the first 12-team college football playoff as they beat Notre Dame 34 to 23 last night in Atlanta. Big game for former Ole Miss Rebel Quinshon Judkins, who had two touchdowns and 100 yards rushing. He also caught a six-yard TD pass.

ESPN’s Way too early college football Top 25 rankings has LSU ranked eighth. Ohio State is number one, followed by Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oregon and Clemson.

In college hoops…McNeese improved to 8-and-0 in the Southland with a 79 to 59 win over Stephen F Austin. The Cowboys lead Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi by two games for first place and then there are a bunch of teams who are 5-and-3, including Northwestern State. Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana. The Demons and Lions won yesterday, while the Colonels lost at home to Lamar 78 to 74.

The college football season concluded last night with Ohio State winning its seventh national championship by beating Notre Dame 34 to 23.

We are 214 days away from the start of another college football season. According to Circa Sports, LSU’s title odds are 25 to one.
