LSU’s 3-and-2 start has first year head coach Ed Orgeron already on the hot seat, at least with many in Tiger nation. Defensive end Christian LaCouture says it’s disrespectful and absurd for fans to say Oregon should be fired after just five games…

It will cost LSU 12-million dollars to fire Orergon that’s the amount of the buyout during his first year as head coach.

The Pelicans preseason opener is tonight. New Orleans will host the Chicago Bulls at the Smoothie King Center and the tip is at 7 PM. With Solomon Hill out with a torn hamstring, expect to see Dante Cunningham start at small forward. Also, the NBA is getting rid of its East versus West format for the All-Star game. This year, two captains will draft the teams from a pool of players voted as starters and reserves.

There is a new number one ranked team in the Class Four-A Louisiana Sports Writers Association Prep football poll. McDonough 35 has moved one spot to number one, but they have a big test this Thursday when they take on the defending champs in 4A, the Edna Karr Cougars.

In the latest FCS Coaches Poll, Grambling State has moved up three spots to number 19, McNeese also jumped 3 spots to number 22 and Nicholls is ranked once again at 25. The Colonels will host Northwestern State at 6:30 in Thibodaux on Saturday night.

Orgeron says he will start Danny Etling at quarterback and the anticipation is that he’ll play all four quarters.

Saints Coach Sean Payton says current gun laws are flawed and frustrating as he spoke about gun control in light of the massacre that occurred in Las Vegas during a country music concert. In a conference call with beat reporters, Payton says the current system is not working and we as a society owe to our children to do better. Payton says if people don’t like his position for tougher gun control, he says tough.

UL Lafayette is coming off its bye week with a one and three record. They had the same record in 2014 and the Cajuns still finished with nine victories, including a bowl win versus Nevada. Coach Mark Hudspeth is hoping for the same kind of turn around….

The Cajuns are at Idaho this Saturday.

ULM is at Texas State. The Warhawks are the best rushing team in the Sun Belt as they have rushed for over 200 yards in three consecutive games. Texas State is struggling offensively, they are averaging just 12 points a game.

There are many problems with the LSU football team, but a recurring issue for the last several years has been the lack of consistent production from the offense. There’s a report going around that Walk On’s Bistreaux & Bar will be the new title sponsor for the Independence Bowl. The I-Bowl Foundation invited the media to attend a special announcement tomorrow at the Walk-On’s in Shreveport. Former LSU running back, Jacob Hester, a partner in the restaurant tweeted that the establishment was the new sponsor, but has since deleted it.

After a bye week, the Ragin Cajuns get back to work as they’ll face Idaho for a four PM kick-off Saturday. UL-Lafayette started its season with a win over Southeastern Louisiana, but they’ve lost three straight, including a double-overtime defeat in their last game against ULM. Coach Mark Hudspeth says the bye week came at a good time…:

LSU is at 21st ranked Florida this Saturday. Gators Head Coach Jim McElwain says leading receiver Tyrie Cleveland will not play because of a high ankle sprain.

ULM is 2-0 in the Sun Belt for the first time since the 2014 season after beating Coastal Carolina 51-43. Coach Matt Viator likes how his team is playing…

1992 was the last time the Warhawks scored 50 or more points in back-to-back games. ULM is at Texas State this Saturday.

Louisiana Tech senior safety Secdrick Cooper has been named Conference USA defensive player of the week. Cooper has two interceptions in the Bulldogs 34-16 win over South Alabama. Tech is at UAB this Saturday.

The Saints are 2-and-2 as they head into the bye week thanks to yesterday’s 20-0 win over the Dolphins in London. New Orleans next game is against the 3-and-1 Detroit Lions on October 15.

Elsewhere in the NFC South…the Falcons lost their first game as the Bills upset the Dirty Birds 23-17 in Atlanta. Tampa Bay got past the Giants 25-23 and Carolina improved to 3-and-1 with a win over the New England Patriots, 33-30. New Orleans next game is October 15th at home against the Lions. Detroit doubled up Minnesota 14-7.

Louisiana Tech claimed a 34-16 win over South Alabama in Ruston. Nicholls State claimed their first road win with a 41-14 victory Saturday night over Lamar. Southeastern shutdown Northwestern State 49-20. McNeese shut out Stephen F Austin, 35-0. Grambling got a victory over Clark Atlanta 31-20.

The Saints say they will kneel before the national anthem starts on Sunday, but stand when it’s sung. Owner Tom Benson issued a statement that says we must find solutions that unite and do not divide us. Benson added that his organization is ready to offer meaningful support and resources to move from a protest of social injustice to a solution.

The Saints face the Dolphins in London on Sunday. Wide receiver Willie Snead is questionable with a hamstring injury. Snead was suspended for the first three games, because of an offseason DWI.

LSU faces Troy for homecoming tomorrow night. After losing the season opener to Boise State, the Trojans have won three in a row. Tiger Rag Associate Editor James Moran says Troy is not a team you can over look…

ULM looks to go 2-0 in the Sun Belt when they host Coastal Carolina on Saturday. Warhawks Quarterback Caleb Evans is coming off a great game in which he threw for 348 yards and rushed for 129 yards and five touchdowns against the Ragin Cajuns. Coach Matt Viator says he’s anxious to see what Evans can do this week…

Also at six PM, Louisiana Tech hosts South Alabama. The Bulldogs are 2-2 and coming off a heart breaking one-point loss to South Carolina. The Jaguars are 1-3. South Al’s lone win was over Alabama A-and-M, their losses were against Ole Miss, Oklahoma State and Idaho.

25th ranked LSU hosts Troy for homecoming tomorrow night. The Tigers are coming off an uninspiring victory over Syracuse. Tiger Rag Associate Editor James Moran says he’ll look for improved play from the offensive line, a ter they struggled to pass block last week…

Starting right tackle Toby Weathersby is questionable for tomorrow night’s game, according to head coach Ed Orgeron. Safety John Battle, nose tackle Ed Alexander, defensive end Rashard Lawrence and running back Derrius Guice are also questionable.

The Saints will face the Dolphins on Sunday and the Black and Gold’s injury report is out for that game. Terron Armstead, Zach Strief, Willie Snead and Sterling Moore are all listed as questionable. Strief practiced fully today in London, while Armstead was limited. Kick-off local time versus the Dolphins is 8:30.

After getting a big win last week to start Sun Belt play, ULM looks to make it two in a row as they host Coastal Carolina. Coastal started the year with a 10 point win over UMASS, but they’ve lost their last two. Warhawks Head Coach Matt Viator says the Chanticleers they’ve looked good on offense..

It will be a great night for high school football and more attention will be focused on the national anthem. Bossier Schools Superintendent Scott Smith has sent out a statement saying that teams and organiziations should stand in unity to honor our nation’s military and veterans. But Louisiana ACLU executive director Marjorie Esman says their organiziation condems threats to students over their first amendments rights….

Parkway High School in Bossier says student athletes are required to stand for the national anthem and continued failure to comply will result in removal from the team.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees says the entire team plans to kneel before the anthem is played, but they’ll stand during the anthem. That’s what the Dallas Cowboys did on Monday Night Football.

LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron says expect to see Myles Brennan get more snaps tomorrow night then he did last week as they continue to give the back-up experience in case an injury occurs to starter Danny Etling. Tiger Rag Associate Editor James Moran….
