The Pelicans were down by as many as 15 points last night but rallied back to beat San Antonio 121-116 for their seventh straight victory. Anthony Davis had 26 points and 15 rebounds to lead the way for New Orleans. Jrue Holiday added 25 points and Rajon Rondo had 13 points and 12 assists. The Spurs lost LaMarcus Aldridge to an ankle injury late in the first half and they missed him down the stretch.

LSU was also down by 15 points to South Carolina last night and a three-pointer by Tremont Waters sent the game to overtime. But the Tigers had nothing left in the extra period and lost 83=74. LSU has now lost seven straight on the road and they fall to 7-10 in the SEC.

Roddy Peters had 32 points to help Nicholls clinch a share of the Southland title as the Colonels clipped Northwestern State 73-70. Southeastern Louisiana upended UNO 68=64. The Lions and Nicholls meet Saturday in Hammond in the regular season finale.

For the first time since 2008, Southeastern Louisiana beat LSU on the baseball diamond. The Lions jumped out to a five to nothing lead and held on for a 5-4 win. Senior Drew Avans homered off of losing pitcher Todd Petersen and Avans drove in four runs. Jake Slaughter hit a three-run homer in a losing effort.

McNeese State knocked off 21st ranked Mississippi State six to three. Jake Cochran and Carson Maxwell homered for the Cowboys and four McNeese pitchers combined to strike out 12 Bulldog hitters.

UL Lafayette edged Nicholls two to one. Gavin Borgeois drove in the winning run for the Cajuns who improved to 3-5. The Colonels fell to 1-and-7.

Northwestern State defeated Louisiana Tech six to four in ten innings. Kelsey Richard drove in the winning run. Bulldogs pitcher David Leal struck out 12 and got a no decision.

The NFL Network reports Saints right tackle Zach Strief plans to retire after 12 seasons. Strief finished the 2017 season on injured reserve with an injured knee.

The LSU baseball team hit three home runs last night in a 10-3 victory over Grambling State. Austin Bain continued his hot hitting with a 429-foot shot off the TV tower in center field. Hal Hughes and Bryce Jordan also homered. The Tigers travel to Southeastern Louisiana tonight.

The Cajuns will host Nicholls State. UL Lafayette Coach Tony Robichaux will not be in the dugout. Robichaux will begin serving a two-game suspension. He was ejected from Sunday’s loss to Wright State for arguing with the umps after they ruled an apparent home run was foul.

Elsewhere, McNeese hosts 21st ranked Mississippi State. The Cowboys are 1-6, while the Bulldogs are 3-4. And Northwestern State is at La Tech.

LSU is at South Carolina tonight. The Tigers are looking to snap a six-game losing streak on the road. To do so, they need to slow down six-foot-nine forward Chris Silva, who is averaging 14 points and eight rebounds a game. Tip-off is at 5:30.

The Pelicans take a six-game winning streak in San Antonio tonight. During this season high win streak, Anthony Davis has averaged 42 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots a game. Tip-off is at 7:30.

The Sun Belt has released football schedules for the upcoming. UL Lafayette will play Grambling for the first time ever in the season opener on September 1st in Lafayette. The Cajuns also visit Alabama on September 29th. ULM has road games against Ole Mis and Texas A-and-M.

Northwestern State opens its season against the Aggies in College Station. That game has been moved to Thursday night August 30th and it will be televised by the SEC Network.

Former Tulane star and Slidell native Matt Forte has announced his retirement from the NFL after a 10-year career. He rushed for over eight thousand yards with the Bears and Jets.

The 14th ranked LSU Tigers fell behind 3-0 to Grambling State last night but the Bayou Bengals eventually got the bats going and won 10-3. A three-run home run by Bryce Jordan in the sixth inning gave LSU the lead and the Tigers scored six times in the 7th inning. Hal Hughes homered and Austin Bain clubbed a long home run in that seventh inning. Starting pitcher Cam Sanders struck out eight, but gave up three runs in four innings. The bullpen was terrific again as Ma’Khail Hilliard threw four shutout innings for the win. The Tigers travel to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana in front of a sold out crowd tonight.

In other action last night, Jackson State downed ULM 7-1. Southern Miss outscored UNO 9-7, Southern upended Alcorn State six to one and Tulane trounced Lamar seven to one.

The Pelicans go after their seventh straight win tonight as they visit the San Antonio Spurs. Tip-off is at 7:30.

We might see a change with the NFL pass interference rule. When defensive pass interference is called now, the offense gets the ball at the spot of the foul. But the NFL Competition Committee is looking at making defensive pass interference only a 15-yard penalty like how it is in college football.

The 2018 Sun Belt football schedule is out. ULM opens Sun Belt Belt play at home against Troy on September 22nd, but five of their first seven are on the road. That includes back-to-back road games at Southern Miss and Texas A&M. The Cajuns open conference by play hosting Coastal Carolina on September 22nd. They will visit defending national champion Alabama the next week.

It’s the final week of the regular season for the LSU men’s basketball team. The Tigers are at South Carolina looking to break a six-game losing streak. The top two teams in the Southland are on the road tonight. Nicholls visits Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana will face UNO at Lakefront Arena.

A-D had 53 points, 18 rebounds and five blocked shots in a 125-116 win over the Phoenix Suns. During this six-game winning streak, A-D has scored 38 or more points five times and has eclipsed 40 points four times. With 22 games left in the regular season, the Pelicans are tied for fifth place in the Western Conference and they begin a three-game road trip tomorrow in San Antonio.

LSU football has announced that Texas Tech transfer Jonathan Giles will wear number seven for the Tigers in 2018. The wide receiver is eligible to play this season after sitting out last year because of NCAA transfer rules. He caught 69 passes for 1,158 yards and 13 touchdowns in his last season in Lubbock in 2016.

Former LSU Tiger and Philadelphia Eagles punter Donnie Jones has announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons.

LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade says himself and the program have had zero contact with the NCAA. Wade made the comments one day after a Yahoo Sports report that said the association’s enforcement officials were looking at Wade’s recruiting tactics. The coach says they will not let the Yahoo Report become a distraction…

LSU is at South Carolina tomorrow and the Tigers finish the regular season on Saturday against Mississippi State. If the season ended today, the Tigers would be the 10th seed in the SEC Tournament in St. Louis.

In college baseball tonight, LSU hosts Grambling State, while Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech has postponed until tomorrow.

The Sun Belt Conference released its football schedule for 2018. The Cajuns will visit the Warhawks in Monroe on November 24th.

Yahoo Sports reports NCAA Enforcement officials have looked into LSU Head Basketball Coach Will Wade’s recruiting tactics. According to the report, the investigation started shortly after LSU hired him in March. But a source says the inquiry has stalled because of a lack of on-the-record specifics. LSU’s 2018 recruiting class is ranked third in the country by Rivals.com.

The Pelicans take a five-game winning streak into tonight’s game against the Phoenix Suns. New Orleans beat Milwaukee 123-121 in overtime. Jrue Holiday stepped up his game after halftime and scored a game-high 36 points. New Orleans has won six straight O-T games and they are 7-2 in overtime games this season.

Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson is said to be in stable condition as he continues to battle the flu. He was admitted to Ochsner Medical Center last week.

Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball are outright Sun Belt champs for the first time since the 1999-2000 after beating South Alabama 88-71 on Saturday. UL Lafayette is 25-4 overall, 15-1 in the Sun Belt. They close out the regular season on Thursday by hosting Arkansas State and Little Rock on Saturday.

For LSU to win this weekend, they need to get off to better starts. Through four games this season, the Tigers have yet to receive a good outing from one of there starting pitchers.

In other action this weekend, the 4-1 Southeastern Louisiana Lions host 25th ranked UCONN. The Ragin Cajuns look for some offense against Wright State. It’s there first game in the completely renovated Tigue Moore Field. ULM outscored Northern Kentucky 13-10.

The Pelicans return to the hardwood tonight to host the Miami Heat. There are just 25 games left in the regular season and New Orleans currently occupies 8th place in the Western Conference standings. Just one game ahead of the Clippers and a half-game back of Denver and Portland for sixth place.

There’s three more regular season games left for LSU as they visit Georgia. It’s a winnable game for the Tigers who are trying to put themselves in the discussion to be one of the 68 teams to make the NCAA Tournament. But Coach Will Wade has asked his team team not to focus on the tourney talk…

Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball clinched a share of their first Sun Belt regular season title since 2000 with an 81-76 win over Troy last night. UL-Lafayette is now 14-1 in the Sun Belt. It was also win number 500 for head coach Bob Marlin. Frank Bartley led all scorers with 22 points.

ULM won its fifth straight with a 66-62 win over South Alabama. The Warhawks are now 8-7 in the Sun Belt, which is good for a tie for third place.

Louisiana Tech lost a hard fought game to U-TEP 74-72. The Bulldogs have lost four of their last six.

24th ranked Lady Tigers lost to seventh ranked South Carolina 58-47. It was LSU’s first game as a ranked team in four years.

One of the most successful high school football coaches in Lousiaina, Acadiana’s Ted Davidson has announced he’s retiring after 42 years as a coach. Davidson spent 14 years as the Wreckin Rams head coach, leading the Lafayette Parish school to four state championships and a record of 154-46.

LSU and Texas meet tonight on the baseball diamond for the first time since the 2009 College World Series as the Tigers host the Longhorns at 7 PM. Texas is 3-1, while the Tigers are 2-and-2. Nicholls State has signed Tim Rebowe to a four-year contract extension. Rebowe has turned around a losing program in three seasons, bringing the Colonels to the F-C-S playoffs last season.

One of the state’s top high school football coaches has announced his retirement. Acadiana’s Ted Davidson is hanging up his whistle after a 42-year coaching career. Over the last 14 seasons, he’s been the head coach of the Wrecking Rams and led the school to four Class 5A titles and two runner-up trophies.

LSU will appear during the first day of SEC Media Days, which will be July 16th to the 19th. Texas A-and-M’s Jimbo Fisher will also be there that day . SEC Media Days will be held in Atlanta this year, instead of Hoover, Alabama.

Nicholls State has signed Tim Rebowe to a four-year contract extension. Rebowe arrived in 2015 and inherited an 18-game losing streak. Three seasons later, Nicholls was in the FCS playoffs and they have a lot of returning starters coming back from that team.

And the NFL Network reports Drew Brees’ representatives and the Saints will talk as soon as next week about a new contract.

A win tonight for UL Lafayette over Troy and the Cajuns will claim at least a share of the Sun Belt Regular season championship. It will be their first since the 1999-2000. If Georgia State loses to Texas State and the Cajuns win, then UL Lafayette will win the outright title and own the top seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament.

ULM seeks its fifth straight win as they visit South Alabama. Both teams are 7-7 in league play.

And Louisiana Tech begins a three-game road trip to close out the regular season by visiting UTEP. Tip off in El Paso is 8 PM.

In the SEC, there’s a six-way tie for third place. Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, Florida and Alabama are all tied at 8-7. LSU is at 7-8 and they’ll visit Georgia, who is 6-9 on Saturday.

The LSU men’s basketball team won its fifth straight game at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center yesterday with an 88-78 win over Vanderbilt. Tremont Waters had 28 points and nine assists. Wayde Sims added a career-high 16 points as he started his first game since December 16th. Aaron Epps had 15 points and Skylar Mays added 14 points. The victory gives a 16-11 record, seven and eight in the SEC.

In action tonight, Nicholls State looks to remain all alone in first place in the Southland as the Colonels visit McNeese State. Nicholls has a half-game lead over Southeastern Louisiana for first. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are in 9th place and need a win to help their case at making the Southland Tournament.

Something has to give in San Antonio tonight as Northwestern State visits Incarnate Word. Both teams are winless in the league.

Also, UNO is at Sam Houston State and Tulane visits Witchita State.

Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson has been admitted to a New Orleans hospital with flu-like symptoms. The 90-year-old is in intensive care, but is resting comfortably.

LSU starting shortstop Josh Smith will miss at least a month of the season because of a stress reaction in his vertebrae. Hal Hughes will play shortstop in Smith’s place. But there is some positive injury news. Coach Paul Mainieri says starting catcher Hunter Feduccia will be back tonight against UNO after suffering an injured hand in preseason practice…
