The Tigers are a three touchdown favorite to beat Louisiana Tech.

LSU has released its 2019 football schedule. The Tigers will open SEC play at Vanderbilt on September 21st. The schedule also contains two bye weeks, September 28th and November second, the week before they play Bama.

The Saints return to practice today as they get ready to visit the Atlanta Falcons. New Orleans secondary will need to be on its game, because Falcons have some very good wide receivers led by Julio Jones. There’s also veteran Moahamed Sanu, tight end Austin Hooper and Atlanta has added first round pick Calvin Ridley.

Sun Belt play begins this weekend for UL Lafayette and ULM. The Warhawks host Troy. The Trojans are a co-favorite to win the Sun Belt Eastern Division. Coastal Carolina was picked to finish last in that division and the Ragin Cajuns get them at home this Saturday.

LSU basketball has received a verbal commitment from three-star combo guard James Bishop from Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore. He’s six-foot-two, 170 pounds and he’s ranked by 24-7 sports as the 24th best combo guard in the nation.

Looking ahead to next season, the SEC schedule came out today. The Tigers will kick off league play on September 21st at Vanderbilt. LSU will also visit Mississippi State on October 19th, host Auburn the next week and then it’s Alabama on November 9th, followed by Ole Miss the next week. There’s also two bye weeks, September 28th and November 2nd, before Bama.

It’s Falcons week for the Saints. Both teams are off today after winning their first games of the season on Sunday. Atlanta is dealing with some injuries. Running back Devonta Freeman is expected to miss Sunday’s game with a knee injury. The Falcons defense is missing linebacker Deion Jones and Keanu Neal. Neal is done for the year with an ACL, while Jones is on I-R with a foot injury.

Grambling’s offense has struggled through the first two games of the season, but they are hoping Jordan Jones can provide a spark at running back. He missed the first two games and he’ll play in Saturday’s SWAC opener against Alabama State.

LSU’s Joe Burrow was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Cole Tracy earned the league’s special teams player of the week honors. Burrow was 15 of 34 for 249 yards, while Tracy made three field goals, including the 42-yard game winner.

The Browns have released kicker Zane Gonzales. He missed four kicks in the Saints 21-18 win over Cleveland. And Saints defensive lineman David Onyemata will appeal the 40-thousand dollar fine he faces for two roughing-the-passer penalties he was hit with in the season opener.

After beating Nicholls State, McNeese climbed seven spots to number nine in the STATS F-C-S poll. The Cowboys are off to a 3-0 start. Also, senior linebacker B-J Blunt was named the STATS National Defensive Player of the Week as well as Southland Defensive Player of the week as he recorded three sacks, four tackles for a loss and recovered a fumble.

Northwestern State Quarterback Shelton Eppler is the offensive player of the week. The junior threw for 474 yards and six touchdowns for the Demons.

And Nicholls is now ranked 18th following its loss to McNeese.

In the high school football polls, the top ranked teams remain the same…John Curtis, Karr, University, Notre Dame and Kentwood. In Four-A, Bastrop has moved into the Top 10 and is ranked 10th. In Three-A, Iota is also ranked as they come in at number 10.

The Pelicans have reportedly signed veteran guard Jarrett Jack to a non-guaranteed contract. If Jack makes the roster, it will be a third time he’s played with the franchise during his 13-year career. Last year he played for the Knicks and averaged eight points and six assists for the Knicks.

The Saints are lucky to have a 1-1 record after a sloppy 21-18 win over the Cleveland Browns. New Orleans had a furious rally in the 4th quarter to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat. A Marcus Williams interception set up the first of two touchdown passes by Drew Brees to Michael Thomas. Coach Sean Payton is not happy with the two fumbles from his team and the numerous mental mistakes…

After losing to SEC west opponents last Saturday, ULM and UL Lafayette begin Sun Belt play this Saturday. The Cajuns host Coastal Carolina, while the Warhawks take on Troy in Monroe.

The Saints were nearly upset for the second straight week on Sunday, but made enough plays in the fourth quarter and benefited from Zane Gonzales’ four missed field goals to squeak out a 21-18 win over the hapless Cleveland Browns. Coach Sean Payton not happy with the two fumbles and numerous mental mistakes. He says the team will not become magically better, they’ll have to put the work in….

Thanks to four missed kicks by Cleveland’s Zane Gonzales the Saints rallied to beat the Cleveland Browns 21-18 yesterday. New Orleans trailed 12-3 in the 4th quarter, but Quarterback Drew Brees finally got it going with two touchdown passes to Michael Thomas. Will Lutz’s 44-yard field goal with 21-seconds left was the game winner. But Coach Sean Payton is not happy with how his team is playing

Two fumbles by the offense, plus they went 3 for 12 on third downs as the unit looked out of sync for much of the game. Payton also says the 47-yard touchdown pass by the Browns to tie the game should have never happened based on the coverage.

New Orleans heads to Atlanta this Sunday. The Falcons are 1-1 after beating Carolina 31-24. Tampa Bay is 20-0 as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for over 400 yards again in a 27-21 win over Philadelphia.

The 6th ranked LSU Tigers are a surprising 3-0 after a come from behind 22-21 win over previously 7th ranked Auburn. Cole Tracy is a big reason why the Tigers have knocked off two top ten teams. Tracy hit three field goals in the season opening win over Miami and then silenced Auburn fans with a clutch 42-yard field goal for a walk off victory. The Saints ran the ball only 13 times in last Sunday’s 48-40 loss to Tampa Bay. Quarterback Drew Brees says the offense was still efficient and sometimes there are games where the run-pass ratio is lopsided in one way or the other. We’ll see if the Black and Gold have a more balanced approach this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

ULM is coming off a surprise win over Southern Miss as they head into this Saturday’s match-up against Texas A-and-M. Warhawks Coach Matt Viator says his team played well, but there’s still room for improvement….

The LHSAA Executive Committee upheld the executive director’s decision to suspend senior quarterback Andrew Robison for one-year. Robison transferred from Vandebilt Catholic to Hahnville. Hahnville Coach Nick Saltaformaggio’s four-game suspension also upheld.
