Five defensive linemen on LSU’s current roster are seniors and three of them are starters.

Linebackers Donnie Alexander and Corey Thompson have played their final games in a Tiger uniform. Orgeron has announced they will not play in the bowl game because of injuries and the banged up Arden Key will also not play and his LSU career is likely done as well, as he’s expected to skip his senior season.

New UL Lafayette Football Coach Billy Napier announces Michael Desormeaux will remain on the Cajuns staff, but what position group he’ll coach is not determined.

Quite a beat down last night in the Frisco Bowl as Louisiana Tech trounced SMU 51-10. The Bulldogs led 42-10 at halftime as the Mustangs turned it over on their first three drives and six overall. La Tech returned two interceptions for touchdowns and Bulldogs Q-B J’mar Smith threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score. Tech finishes the year with a 7-6 record.

LSU has beefed up its offensive and defensive lines by signing ten linemen on the first day of the early signing period. The Tigers inked five defensive tackles and four offensive linemen, including the number one o-line junior college prospect in Badara Traore and Cole Smith one of the country’s top centers. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says Smith is from Pontotoc High School in Mississippi…

LSU needed help on the O-line after five offensive linemen transferred during the last offseason.

Louisiana Tech heads into its offseason with a bunch of momentum after winning its third straight last night as they crushed SMU 51-10 in the Frisco Bowl last night.

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton has apologized for the choke gesture he made towards Falcons running back Devonta Freeman. TV cameras caught the incident when the two teams met two weeks ago in Atlanta and the two teams are set to meet again this Sunday. In a conference call with Atlanta reporters, Payton said he let his emotions get the best of him. Freeman says he’s not bothered by Payton’s actions.

Former LSU Tiger Rob Sale is the new offensive coordinator at UL Lafayette. Sale was also an assistant coach at McNeese and ULM.

The Warhawks basketball team beat Centenary 74-51 last night. Travis Munnings recorded his first double-double of the season, 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Nicholls dribbled past Mobile 96-62 as Kimani Jackson had 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting. Northwestern State allowed 15 three-pointers and lost to Utah 84-62.

Today, Louisiana Tech faces Alabama State in New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana is at Notre Dame.

On the first day of the new early signing period for college football, LSU signed 18 players. Half of the signees are either offensive linemen or defensive tackles. Recruiting analyst Shea Dixon of 24-7 sports, says the o-line was decimated by injuries and attrition this year, but they’ll have good depth next season, based on the guys they signed…

LSU also signed two linebackers Shreveport’s Micah Baskerville and Damone Clark of Baton Rouge. The class also contains a couple of wide receivers, Jena’s Jaray Jenkins and Berwick’s Kenan Jones.

La Tech is a four-point underdog against SMU in tonight’s Frisco Bowl. There are some really good wide receivers in this game. Teddy Veal for the Bulldogs and the Mustangs have a pair of one-thousand yard receivers, Courtland Sutton and former LSU Tiger Trey Quinn. Kick-off is at 7 PM.

In the NFC South, there’s still much to be decided with two games left. New Orleans is hosting Atlanta this Sunday. Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones did not practice today because of an ankle injury, but he’s expected to play against the Saints. For the Black and Gold, guard Larry Warford didn’t practice today.

New UL Lafayette football coach Billy Napier has named former LSU Tiger Rob Sale as his offensive coordinator. Sale has 12 years of experience as an offensive line coach and served last season as the o-line coach and running game coordinator under Napier for the Sun Devils in 2017. He also coached at ULM and McNeese and played at LSU from 2000 to 2002.

In college hoops action tonight….ULM hosts Centenary, Nicholls faces Mobile in Thibodaux and Northwestern State is at Utah. Last night, LSU beat Sam Houston State 80-58 and the Ragin Cajuns won their seventh straight, an 82-74 victory over Southeastern.

LSU is expected to sign nearly 20 players over the next three days as part of college football new early signing period. In the past recruits, had to wait until February to sign, now they can do so in December. The state’s top prospect is Parkway wide receiver Terrace Marshall and 24-7 recruiting analyst Shea Dixon says he expects Marshall to sign with LSU on Friday…

Two wide receivers from Louisiana faxed over there signed national letter of intents, Berwick wide out Kenan Jones and Jena’s Jaray Jenkins.

Six Saints players have made the Pro Bowl roster, the most since 2009. For the first time in the Drew Brees era a New Orleans wide out made the pro bowl as Michael Thomas is scheduled to play in the All-star game. In other Saints news, the team has placed linebacker A-J Klein on injured reserve. Klein underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Tonight, Louisiana Tech plays SMU in the Frisco Bowl. This is the third time in four years La Tech has played a bowl game in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. They won the previous two, a victory over Navy in last year’s Armed Forces Bowl and three years ago the Bulldogs beat Illinois in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Coach Skip Holtz anticipates another great game tonight…

The selections for the 2018 Pro Bowl were announced Tuesday night and they include six New Orleans Saints. Quarterback Drew Brees, defensive end Cameron Jordan, receiver Michael Thomas, cornerback Marshon Lattimore and running backs Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara have been named to the team.

Louisiana Tech can finish with a winning record for the 2017 season if it can beat SMU in the Frisco Bowl tonight. It’s been an up and down season for the Bulldogs, who fell short of playing for the Conference USA title. But Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz says finishing 2017 with a three-game winning streak would be great…:

LSU is expected to be without starting linebackers Corey Thompson and Donnie Alexander in the Citrus Bowl New Years Day against Notre Dame.

In the 2018 Collegiate baseball preseason poll, LSU is ranked No. 10, and UL-Lafayette came in at No. 18.

In college hoops, last night LSU pounded Sam Houston State 84-58. Northwestern State was dominated by Oklahoma in a 105-68 loss. UL-Lafayette beat Southeastern 82-74.

The Falcons beat Tampa Bay 24-21 last night as Devonta Freeman rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown as Atlanta improved to 9-5 on the season heading into its game with the Saints this Sunday. New Orleans can clinch the NFC South this weekend if they win and the Panthers lose to Tampa Bay.

In the NBA tonight, the Pelicans host the Washington Wizards. Both teams have similar records, New Orleans is at 15-and-15. The Pels have been on a patter lately, where they win one and then lose one. They lost their last game, so that means they should win tonight. Tip-off is at 7 PM.

The first college baseball preseason poll of the season is out today. Collegiate Baseball ranks the Tigers 10th after losing to Florida last season in the championship series of the C-W-S. Florida is ranked number one in the preseason poll, Arkansas third, Vanderbil sixth, Kentucky eighth and UL Lafayette comes in at number 18.

In college basketball tonight, LSU hosts Sam Houston State at 7 PM. The Tigers are looking to rebound from a loss to Stephen F Austin. The Bearkats are 6-5 and Head Coach Will Wade says they play great defense.

Also, Northwestern State is at Oklahoma, McNeese hosts Texas College and Southeastern Louisiana is at UL Lafayette. New Cajuns football coach Billy Nappier is expected to address the crowd at the Cajundome tonight. Nappier says he can tell there’s great passion for football in Acadiana and he wants to be a part of it…

The Saints didn’t get any favors from the Bucs last night, though Tampa Bay put up a decent effort they ended up falling to Atlanta 24-21 during Monday Night Football. The Bucs had a shot at a last second field goal to go to overtime, but missed by inches. New Orleans will host The Dirty Birds on Christmas Eve; and last night’s Falcons victory means Atlanta can still knock the Saints out of the top spot in the NFC South.

Billy Napier is likely on the recruiting trail today after he was introduced as the Ragin Cajuns new head coach yesterday. Napier on what UL Lafayette will look like on the football field…:

The new early signing period for college football begins tomorrow.

On the hardwood last night….ULM destroyed Millsaps 97-44 in Monroe. Travis Munnings had a perfect shooting night and scored 17 points and Michael Ertel added 14 for the Warhawks.

Tulane is still perfect at home after picking up a 76-69 win over in-state rival Nicholls State. The Green Wave is 6-0 on their own court.

In college women’s hoops, Nicholls State fell to No. 6 Baylor 85-43. Louisiana Tech picked up a 78-62 win over McNeese State in Ruston.

Tonight LSU returns to action against Sam Houston in the PMAC. The Tigers are coming off a tough loss to Stephen F Austin and Coach Will Wade says the lineup will look different tonight.

Elsewhere, Northwestern State is at Oklahoma, McNeese State hosts Texas College, and Southeastern travels to face UL-Lafayette.

The Pelicans are back in action tonight as they take on the Wizards in Washington for a 6pm tip-off.

LSU receiver DJ Chark accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Receiver Russell Gage and defensive end Frank Herron accepted invites to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

Despite three turnovers, the Saints still beat the New York jets 31 to 19 to improve to 10-and-4 on the season. Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns. But Brees, who also threw an interception, was not happy about the team’s three turnovers….

The Saints were also just three of 10 on third downs.

Carolina also won yesterday, as they defeated Green Bay 31-24. The Panthers and the Saints are both 10-and-4, tied for first place in the NFC South, with New Orleans owning the tie breaker. Atlanta can move within one game of the division lead, with a win tonight over Tampa Bay.

And other NFL note…the league has suspended Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis for the final two games of the regular season for his illegal hit on Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.

Billy Napier was introduced today as the 26th head football coach in Ragin Cajuns football history. The former offensive coordinator at Arizona State had this message for University of Louisiana fans…

Arizona State offensive coordinator Billy Napier has been named the head coach at UL-Lafayette, and will be officially introduced today at noon in the Cajun dome. Before he was at A-S-U, Napier spent several years coaching on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama, helping the Crimson Tide win national championships in 2011 and 2015.

In college post-season play; On Saturday in the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta, Grambling fell to North Carolina A&T, 21-14. In the New Orleans Bowl, Troy dominated North Texas, 50-30. Wednesday Louisiana Tech plays in the Frisco Bowl versus SMU.

Today in college hoops, ULM hosts Millsaps, and Nicholls State plays down the street at Tulane. That contest will be televised on ESPN3.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled a limited edition bobblehead featuring the NFL rookie, Leonard Fournette, in his LSU uniform. It’s the first bobblehead with Fournette in a purple and gold jersey.

The NFL has fined Saints head coach Sean Payton for 10-thousand dollars for improperly entering the field during last week’s loss to Atlanta. Payton was hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty late in the game and Payton said afterwards he was trying to call a timeout.

That was a tough loss against the Falcons. New Orleans can get back in the win column when they host the New York Jets on Sunday. Payton on how the team is trying to bounce back…

Arizona State offensive coordinator Billy Napier has been named the new head coach at UL Lafayette. Before he was at A-S-U, Napier spent several years coaching on Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama, helping the Crimson Tide win national championships in 2011 and 2015. Napier will be introduced to Cajun nation at a press conference at noon.

Grambling State goes after its second straight H-B-C-U national championship when they face undefeated North Carolina A-and-T in Saturday’s celebration bowl in Atlanta. Grambling is led by Q-B DeVante Kincade, but he goes up against an A-and-T defense that’s allowed just 12 points a game. Kick-off is at 11 AM.

Troy, who upset the LSU Tigers in 2017, can win its 11th game of the season on Saturday when they face North Texas in the New Orleans Bowl. U-N-T is led by the Conference USA offensive player of the year, Mason Fine, who is 5-foot-10. He set school records for passing and touchdowns. Troy’s defense has intercepted 15 passes this year. Kick-off in the Dome is at noon.

In college basketball on Saturday, the Tigers look to extend their winning streak to four games when they host Stephen F Austin. The Lumberjacks are nine and one. Tip-off is at noon.
