At the state baseball tournament in Sulphur, Simpson defeated Summerfield 15-to-5 in five innings to win the Class C Championship. The Broncos were runner-ups the last two years. In the Division Five title game, Northside Christian edged Runnels two to one. Later tonight, it’s the Two-A state championship as Doyle takes on Kinder. Tomorrow at 2:30, it’s the 3A title as Sterling faced South Beauregard.

Former LSU defensive tackle Davin Cotton announces he’s transferring to Southern University. The former Evangel standout played in just two games for the Tigers last season. He’s six-foot-four, 280 pounds and he was listed as the eighth best prospect in Louisiana’s 2018 class.

The LSU TAF Coaches Caravan stops at the Walk-On’s in Houma tonight from 6 to 8 PM. Coach Ed Orgeron, special teams coordinator Greg McMahon, Kevin Faulk and strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt will be on hand.

After losing two of three to Arkansas this past weekend, the Tigers continue to fall in the college baseball polls. LSU fell six spots in the Baseball America poll to number 22. They fell four spots in the D-1 poll to number 19. LSU closes out the regular season this week, by hosting UNO tomorrow and then Auburn for a series that begins Thursday.

Glenn made the comments after watching the former Florida standout during the team’s rookie minicamp practices this past weekend. Glenn predicts defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will make schemes based on Gardner-Johnson’s versatility.

Southeastern Louisiana fell out of first place in the Southland after they were swept in a doubleheader to Sam Houston State. And Nicholls won its first Southland Series in March as they rallied from a seven-nothing deficit to beat Stephen F Austin 13-7.

On Senior Day at Ruston High School, Louisiana Tech swept a doubleheader from Western Kentucky to clinch a spot in the Conference USA Tournament. The Bulldogs won the games by the final scores of six to one and eight to three. The Bulldogs got great pitching performances from senior lefties David Leal and Logan Bailey. Tech will get ready to visit fifth ranked Mississippi State.

The Ragin Cajuns completed a sweep of Georgia State on Sunday by beating Georgia State 11 to 5. Handsome Monica’s three-run homer was the big blow. The Cajuns will wrap up the regular season next weekend by visiting ULM. The Warhawks just dropped two of three to Troy.

The LSU baseball team is tied for third place in the SEC West with Ole Miss heading into the final weekend of conference play. Thanks to a three-run homer by Antoine Duplantis, the Tigers salvaged a game in their series at Arkansas on Saturday with a three to two win. LSU will host UNO on Tuesday and then Auburn, starting on Thursday. LSU is on the bubble when it comes to hosting an NCAA Regional.

LSU softball has received a number 10 national seed and they’ll host a regional this weekend at Tiger Park. The Tigers will face Monmouth on Friday afternoon. Louisiana Tech, who won the Conference USA Title is the Baton Rouge Regional too and the Tech will face Texas Tech on Friday. Despite going 50-and-4, UL-Lafayette will not host a regional. Instead the Lady Cajuns head to Oxford as a two seed in a regional hosted by Ole Miss.

Southeastern Louisiana has fallen into a three-way tie for second place after getting swept by Sam Houston State. Northwestern State and McNeese are tied for fifth place. The Cowboys split a doubleheader with Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi. UIW swept a doubleheader from the Demons. Nicholls fell behind 7-0, but came back to beat Stephen F Austin 13-7 and the Colonels own the eighth and final spot in the Southland tournament with one more weekend to go.

LSU baseball really needs a good start from Eric Walker tonight as the Tigers will look to even up their series against Arkansas. The Razorbacks routed the Bayou Bengals 14 to four last night as Arkansas hit five home runs. LSU has now allowed 45 runs over the last three games, the most in a three-game span since 1997. That team went on to win a national championship. This year’s team has lost four in a row and is four games back of the Hogs for first place in the SEC West. First pitch tonight is at 630.

A rookie mini-camp is underway for the Saints. The team announced earlier today that all five players of their 2019 draft class have signed four-year contracts. Second round pick, center Erik McCoy could be a starter next season.

Because of all of the rain, action at the the LHSAA Baseball state tournament in Sulphur has been pushed back until Sunday. Championship games will be Monday and Tuesday.

Because of the accumulation of rain and the threat of inclement weather, Louisiana Tech has made the decision to play its baseball series at Ruston High School instead of ULM. Tonight’s game will start at 6 PM. Game times for Saturday and Sunday will be announced at a later time.

Another brutal baseball game for LSU fans to endure last night as for the third straight game the Tigers gave up more ten runs in a loss. Last night, Arkansas hit five home runs in a 14-4 route of LSU. The Tigers have given up 45 runs over their last three games. That’s the most in a three-game span since 1997. Starter Ma’Khail Hilliard gave up six runs over three innings and Riggs Threadgill gave up six runs, including a grand slam, in one inning of relief. Eric Walker will try to right the ship tonight in Game two of the series from Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

After beating LSU 12-to-1 on Tuesday, Louisiana Tech begins a weekend series tonight against Western Kentucky. The games will be played at ULM, because of tornado damage to the Bulldogs home steadium. Tech is in fourth place in Conference USA, while the Hilltoppers are in third.

The recruiting middleman that was at the center of LSU basketball coach Will Wade’s FBI wiretap scandal has been convicted in the NCAA corruption trial. A federal jury in New York found aspiring agent Christian Dawkins and youth basketball coach Merl Code guilty of bribing coaches They will be sentenced at a later date. Purported FBI wiretaps revealed in October and in March allegedly had Dawkins and Wade discussing possible payoffs for recruits.

Two of the six LSU basketball players who entered the NBA draft process have been invited to participate in next week’s NBA draft combine. Point guard Tremont Waters and Forward Naz Reid are among the 66 players invited to work in front of coaches and scouts from all 30 teams.

Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech gets ready to host Western Kentucky this weekend. But because of the extensive damage to J-C Love Field, the three-game set that starts Friday will take place on the ULM campus.

It was a much needed win for the Bulldogs as they had lost seven of their last eight heading into the contest. It was Tech’s first road win over the Tigers since 1983 and their largest margin o victory since 1933. Mason Mallard had four hits and drove in three runs, while Tanner Huddleston had three hits and four RBIs.

Also last night, Nicholls over Tulane five to three, UNO edged Southern five to four and South Alabama defeated Southeastern Louisiana. Tonight, McNeese hosts Priaire View.

Louisiana Tech snapped its 12-game losing streak to LSU with a 12-1 beating of the Tigers in Baton Rouge last night. It’s Tech’s first win over the Bayou Bengals since 1987. The Bulldogs pounded out 17 hits. Mason Mallard had three doubles and drove in three runs. Tanner Huddleston drove in four runs. Three Tech pitchers held LSU to four hits.

La Tech will now get ready to host Western Kentucky and the games will be played in Monroe, because of tornado damage to J-C Love Field. Athletics Director Tommy McClelland says the baseball, softball and soccer stadiums were all destroyed by the twister and they are still considering their options when it comes to rebuilding on their old grounds or picking new locations…

Coach O was in Shreveport last night and said his team will need to block out the noise like they did last year. The LSU men’s basketball program is planning to visit Spain in August. The NCAA allows schools to take one foreign trip every four years and LSU’s last out of country trip was in 2015 in Australia.
