LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron had his first call-in radio show of the season last night and said he wouldn’t have a problem playing both Joe Burrow and Brennan Myles at quarterback in the season opener against Miami. And Orgeron says there are no plans for linebacker Devin White playing a little running back as well.

Ohio State Football Coach Urban Meyer has apologized for his mishandling of the domestic violence accusations against former assistant coach Zach Smith. Meyer’s missteps has led to a three-game suspension, which means he’ll return to the sidelines when the 5th ranked Buckeyes host Tulane on September 22nd.

The Saints have another joint training camp practice with the Chargers today. The Black and Gold are 17 days away from the regular season opener against Tampa Bay. Quarterback Drew Brees says he’s still developing chemistry with his wide receivers…

The Saints and Chargers will also practice against each other tomorrow and then meet up for a preseason game on Saturday night in Carson, California.

The Advocate Reports that LSU will not allow recently departed quarterback Justin McMillan to transfer to another SEC school or a school that LSU will play this season or next year. McMillan was reportedly under the assumption he could transfer to any school as a graduate transfer. But the NCAA’s new transfer rule that prevents schools from blocking student-athletes from transferring to a certain school doesn’t go into effect until October 15th.

Grambling State wants to add alcohol sales to home football and basketball games. The university is seeking a permit through the state Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control. President Rick Gallot told the News Star that fans have requested the opportunity to buy alcohol when watching games at the Hole and the Fredrick Hobdy Assembly Center.

Louisiana Tech has one less quarterback on its roster. Redshirt freshman Elijah Walker has announced he’s transferring, leaving the school with three scholarship quarterbacks.

We’ve learned why starting guard Ed Ingram has been suspended from the football team. Ingram has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault in Dallas County. Ingram was booked on August 2nd, one day before the team reported for training camp. Three LSU players have been suspended because of arrests in the last two weeks.

Former LSU star Kevin Gausman pitched eight solid innings as the Altanta Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates six to one last night. Atlanta’s lead over Philadelphia in the National League East is a game and a half.

The Saints get a day off from camp today. They’ll be back at it tomorrow as they continue to get ready for the second preseason game of the year, Friday night at home against Arizona.

The SWAC has named Texas Southern athletic director Charles McClelland as its new commissioner. McClellland has been the A-D at Texas Southern since 2008, before that he led the Prairie View athletic department, his alma mater.

The LHSAA is reportedly investigating Brother Martin High School in New Orleans for alleged recruiting violations involving students who live on the northshore. There’s no timetable on when the investigation will be concluded.

Nicholls State is ranked 17th in the FCS coaches poll. McNeese is 18th. Defending national champion North Dakota State is atop the poll as they received 23 of 26 first place votes.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team won the second of their two exhibition games in Costa Rica last night. The Bulldogs grinded out a 74-62 win over San Ramon ARBA. Sophomore guard Amorie Archibald had 14 points, along with six rebounds.

And if you think Tiger Woods isn’t good for professional golf, TV Ratings for the PGA championship were up 69-percent over last year as Woods shot a 64 on Sunday to finish in second place.

But the Tigers are missing starting right guard Ed Ingram, who has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.

Junior defensive end Rashard Lawrence was not at practice yesterday during the portion viewed by the media. But preseason All-American cornerback Greedy Williams was back after missing a couple of practices.

The Saints are off from practice today. The will have a padded practice tomorrow, a walk-thru on Thursday and then host the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The team had a short practice, but Coach Sean Payton was not satisfied the offense struggled to line up correctly on a few occasions.

Orgeron says the offense made way too many mistakes, especially the offensive line. He says nothing has changed with the quarterback battle.

42-year-old Tiger Woods nearly won his first major championship since 2008, but finished two shots back of Brooks Koepka, who won his third major championship and his first PGA Tour championship. Woods fired a six-under 64, while Koepka held off the charging Woods with a 66.

It appears second-year Saints safety Marcus Williams is ready to bounce back from a disastrous end to his rookie season. Williams’ missed tackle allowed the Vikings to score a touchdown on the final play to end New Orleans’ season. Quarterback Drew Brees recently compared Williams to former All-Pro Safety Ed Reed. Williams says facing Brees in practice makes him a better player…

The Saints have signed another Marcus Williams. This Marcus Williams plays cornerback and he’s entering his fifth season in the NFL and played in 10 games with Houston last year, interception one pass. The Black and Gold also signed veteran safety Robert Nelson, who appeared in two games with the Jets last season. Cornerback De’Vante Harris was released and claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay.

Former LSU star Derrius Guice’s season ends before it really ever starts. Guice has suffered a torn ACL and the Washington Redskins rookie is out for the season.

The LSU football team has its first scrimmage or what Coach Ed Orgeron likes to call a preseason game today. It will be a chance for one of the four quarterbacks to make a case that he should be the starter.

The Pelicans 2018-19 schedule is out and it all starts with a trip to Houston to face the Rockets on October 17th. In a game televised by ESPN. It will be one 13 nationally televised games on either ESPN or TNT. The defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors will not visit New Orleans until the regular season finale on April 9th. LeBron James will bring the Lakers to the Smoothie King Center twice, February 23rd and March 31st.

The largest video board in college baseball is coming to LSU’s Alex Box Stadium. A 71-foot-wide, 38-foot tall videoboard will be installed beyond the left field wall before the season opener in mid-February. It will show replays and display stats. LSU Baseball Sports Information director Bill Franques says they’ll also have a new scoreboard in right field too….

The Saints rallied for a 24-20 win over Jacksonville in last night’s preseason opener. New Orleans defense played much better in the second half. Rookie defensive tackle Devaroe Lawrence had a big night as he had five tackles and two sacks. Coach Sean Payton says it was good to see for a guy who has battled injuries…

Defensive end Jayrone Elliot also had a big game, with four tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Brandon Tate and Boston Scott also looked returning kicks. The next preseason game is a week from tonight in the Superdome against the Arizona Cardinals.

An NCAA committee has denied LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton’s appeal of a two-year suspension for tampering with a drug test. That means he will not be able to play this season, unless his attorney is able to convince the NCAA to grant Fulton a waiver.

Fulton could have been a starter for the Tigers this season. LSU defensive back Terrence Alexander says the focus during camp is to get better with or without Fulton…

Former LSU star and Redskins running back Derius Guice went down with a knee injury in last night’s preseason game. An MRI has diagnosed it has an M-C-L sprain.

ULM will ahve a 100-play scrimmage tomorrow. The News-Star reports the Warhawks are already dealing with injuries, senior cornerback Rhoy Williams is out for the year with a torn ACL and sophomore tight end Josh Pederson has been out with an undisclosed illness.

For the first time since 2014, the Saints won their preseason opener, rallying to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-20 last night. But Coach Sean Payton didn’t like how the game started as the Jaguars scored on their first three possessions…

The Saints backup quarterbacks played well as Taysom Hill was 8 of 9 for 72 yards and also rushed for 52 yards. Tom Savage directed two scoring drives and was 7 of 10 for 70 yards. A couple of players on the bubble played really well. Defensive end Jayrone Elliot forced a fumble and Devaroe Lawrence had two sacks. The next preseason game is a week from tonight in the Dome against the Cardinals.

LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton remains suspended for the 2018 season as the NCAA has upheld his two-year ban from college athletics for tampering with a drug test. Fulton’s attorney says he’ll now seek a waiver from the NCAA. LSU athletics director Joe Alleva says the the school made a strong case for reinstatement, and they are disappointed with the decision.

The LSU coaching staff hoped Fulton could start at one of the cornerback spots, as they don’t have much depth at that position. Terrance Alexander was brought in as a graduate transfer from Stanford and the former John Curtis star says they can still have a great defense without Fulton…

Former Evangel standout and Tigers linebacker Micah Baskerville reportedly suffered a minor foot injury that will require surgery. He’s expected back at practice before the season opener against Miami.

Orgeron says there’s been no change with the quarterbacks as far as a true depth chart and he expects it to stay that way for another week.

LSU and Florida State will play each other in football in the next few years, but the games will not be played in Baton Rouge or Tallahassee. The Tigers will host the Seminoles in the Superdome in 2022 and then next year, the two schools will face off in Orlando.

LSU has suspended sophomore linebacker Tyler Taylor after the school learns he was the alleged getaway driver in a January burglary of a pawn shop in Georgia. Taylor was not arrested until May and the school reportedly learned of the incident yesterday.

And freshman linebacker Micah Baskerville from Shreveport has reportedly suffered a foot injury that required minor surgery. He’s expected to return to practice before the season opener versus Miami.

The Pelicans have announced they signed free agent center Jahlil Okafor. Okafor was the third overall pick in the 2015 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He performed well his rookie season, but last year he averaged just six points a game.

Second round pick DJ Chark will likely see a lot of playing time tonight for the Jaguars. Observers say the Alexandria native has been Jacksonville’s top rookie in training camp.

The league has announced the five games for that day and it does not involve the Pelicans.
