Since it appears the Pelicans are not interested in moving forward with any of the Lakers trade proposals for Anthony Davis, Los Angeles has reportedly put on hold it’s efforts to acquire A-D. There have been reports the Pelicans are seeking a huge return for their All-Star big man and may prefer to wait until the summer to see what other deals are out there.

Davis has missed the last several games with an injured finger, but the Chicago native is listed as questionable to play in tomorrow night’s game versus the Bulls. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday.

Tomorrow it’s national signing day in college football, LSU hopes the nation’s top defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher will sign with the Tigers over Alabama. His teammate at Amite, Devonta Lee, could also sign with LSU tomorrow. LSU has six available spots to fill out their 2019 recruiting class.

21st ranked LSU looks to bounce back from its first SEC loss of the season on Saturday to Arkansas when they travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State on Wednesday night. Tigers Coach Will Wade says the Bulldogs do a lot of stuff well…

In Southland Conference action tomorrow night, McNeese visits the first place Sam Houston State Bearkats. UNO is at Northwestern State. The Privateers are 7-3 in league play, while the Demons are 3-and-6. Southeastern Louisiana is at Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi. The Lions are 5-4 in league play.

The short-handed Pelicans lost again last night, falling to Indiana 109-107. It’s the third straight defeat for New Orleans as they played once again without All-Star Anthony Davis. A-D has been cleared to practice, but management reportedly does not want him playing in any games. Davis has asked to be traded and the Pels are looking for a significant haul for the six-time All-Star. The Lakers have reportedly offered various trade scenarios to the Pels, but Los Angeles is growing pessimistic a deal can be done by Thursday’s trade deadline. There’s belief the Pels should wait until the summer to trade Davis, because they’ll get better offers.

The nation’s number one defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher finally makes his choice known tomorrow on where he’ll attend college. LSU and Alabama have been after the five star prospect for several months. Amite’s Devonta Lee, who plays wide receiver and could possibly be a defensive back, will also sign his letter of intent tomorrow on national signing day.

LSU basketball has fallen two spots in the latest A-P poll to number 21. The Tigers are entering a tough stretch. After tomorrow night’s road game against Mississippi State, they host Auburn and then travel to Kentucky. Saints fans promised to boycott the Super Bowl and they followed through with that threat as the overnight television rating showed only a quarter of the TVs in the New Orleans market had the game on. The 26.1 rating is half of what the rating was for last year’s Super Bowl.

Dennis Allen is reportedly signing a three-year contract to stay as the defensive coordinator of the Saints. Cincinnati had interest in Allen, who took over a struggling Saints defense and improved it dramatically.

Junior college defensive end Soni Fonua has committed to LSU and is expected to sign with the Tigers on Wednesday. Fonua is from Utah and played the last two seasons at Mesa Community College in Arizona.

The Super Bowl. The overnight rating for the New Orleans market was a dismal 26.1, which is the lowest ever for the Big Easy and the lowest of any market in the country. There were second line parades, concerts and viewing parties to re-watch the Saints Super Bowl victory over the Colts, instead of watching the Patriots win their sixth Super Bowl title.

If you boycotted Sunday’s Super Bowl you picked a good game not to watch as the Patriots defeated the Rams 13-3 for New England’s sixth NFL championship. There were nearly as many as punts as points. Former Louisiana Tech standout Ryan Allen averaged 43 yards a punt and had three inside the 20 for New England. Pats wide receiver Julian Edelman was named the Super Bowl MVP.

Saturday was a big day for Louisiana football as three players with strong ties to the state were elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Former Desterehan star Ed Reed is a first ballot Hall of Famer, while former LSU Tigers Kevin Mawae and Johnny Robinson are the fourth and fifth LSU players to receive an invite into the Hall.

Dennis Allen is reportedly staying with the Saints to remain as the team’s defensive coordinator. The Cincinnati Bengals also reportedly had interest in Allen, whose contract expired at the end of the season.

Wednesday is national signing day for college football, the LSU Tigers received a commitment from the nation’s number six junior college strong side defensive end. Soni Funua had 114 tackles and 4.5 sacks over the last two seasons at Mesa Community College.

The 19th ranked LSU men’s basketball team is no longer tied for first place in the SEC. The Bayou Bengals 10-game winning streak ended on Saturday with a 90-89 loss to Arkansas. The Razorbacks hit 13, 3-pointers. LSU is at Mississippi State on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs are 4-4 in league play and coming off a win over Ole Miss.

On Saturday, La Tech, ULM and UL-Lafayette all lost. UNO won its third straight as the Privateers defeated Incarnate Word 89-72. UNO is 7-3 in the Southland. Southeastern is 5-4 after a 91-70 win over the Colonels. Nicholls has lost five straight.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees was a guest on several TV and radio shows in Atlanta on Friday and of course he was asked about the infamous blown pass interference call in the NFC Championship game. Brees said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should have said something sooner about the no call than waiting until this past Wednesday to address the controversy.

The Saints are reportedly making changes with their special teams coaches. Mike Westoff and his staff are being let go and New Orleans will reportedly bring in longtime Dolphins special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.

In college hoops last night, ULM lost to Coastal Carolina 92-81. Appalachian State dribbled past UL-Lafayette 104-77. Florida Atlantic led from start to finish in its 61-51 win over Louisiana Tech.

Many Saints fans are not watching the Super Bowl, and even fewer are rooting for the Rams, but in North Louisiana that might not be the case as former West Monroe football standout and LSU star Andrew Whitworth is competing in the big game for Los Angeles. State Senator Mike Walsworth says many in West Monroe are rooting the 13-year veteran….

The Lakers have reportedly offered several different trade options to the Pelicans as they attempt to team Anthony Davis up with LeBron James. Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma are some of the players Magic Johnson is offering up for Davis. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday.

There are reports LSU and football coach Ed Orgeron are working on a contract extension, but it make take a few weeks to get finalized. The LSU Board of Supervisors’ next meeting is in March and they would have to approve a new deal.

The LSU men’s basketball team’s win streak is up to 10 games after a 72-57 victory over Texas A-and-M. Tremont Waters had 36 points as the Tigers completed their first undefeated month of January in nearly 40 years. The 19th ranked Tigers are back at home on Saturday as they host Arkansas.

In college hoops tonight, Louisiana Tech is at Florida Atlantic. The Bulldogs are 5-4 in Conference USA and they’ve played well on the defensive end. Tonight they’ll have to contend with Anthony Adger who is averaging 20 points a game. ULM, who has been struggling on the defensive end lately, is at Coastal Carolina. The Warhawks are 4-3 in league play and so is Coastal.

The Ragin Cajuns are also 4-3 in league play and they are Appalachian State, who is just 1-and-6 in league play.

LSU guard Tremont Waters scored a season-high 36 points last night as the Tigers won their 10th straight game with a 72-57 win over Texas A-and-M. The Bayou Bengals and Tennessee are the two SEC teams still undefeated in league play.

Sam Houston State improved to 8-0 in the Southland with a 62-52 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Nicholls fell to Lamar 90-69, while UNO beat Northwestern State 72-64 in a game that featured 17 lead changes.

The Pelicans lost last night to Denver 105-99. Anthony Davis did not play because of an injured finger and there’s a report he may never play for New Orleans again, since his agent went public with his trade demands. Davis was taken out of the team’s introduction video, but there also reports the Pelicans are not in a hurry to trade A-D and General Manager Dell Demps is not returning calls from Los Angeles Lakers’. Davis is expected to talk with reporters tomorrow.

Don’t tell Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry the NBA franchise plays second fiddle to the Saints. A recent report said one reason for Anthony Davis’ trade demands is because that Saints are more of a priority for ownership. Following Wednesday night’s loss to Denver, Gentry stood up for owner Gayle Benson and her late husband, Tom, and what they’ve done for the basketball team…
