The loss drops LSU’s record to 21-5 overall, 11-2 in the SEC and into a tie with Kentucky for second place in the league.

UNO is in sole possession of third place in Southland after the Privateers ended Southeastern Louisiana’s five game winning streak with an 89-68 win. Bryson Robinson led the way with 23 points as he hit five three-pointers.

Nicholls took Southland Conference leader Sam Houston State into overtime, but the Bearkats dribbled past the Colonels 84-74.

And McNeese ended its five-game losing streak with an 83-75 win over Central Arkansas.

In college baseball, Louisiana Tech improved to 4-0 with a 3-2 win over the Ragin Cajuns in 10 innings. Senior Mason Robinson drove in the winning run with a two-out single. The Cajuns fall to 1-and-3 on the season. Tulane clobbered Lamar 22-10 as junior infielder Kody Hoese tied a school record with three home runs in one game.

The voice of Alex Box Stadium, Bill Franques, is taking a leave of absence as he needs treatment for prostate cancer. Franques says it was caught early enough that he expects a speedy recovery.

In high school sports, there are a couple of high profile head coaching moves in the Baton Rouge area. Chad Mahaffey is leaving University High after leading the Cubs to straight Division Two Championships to take the head coaching job at Walker.

And former LSU quarterback Marcus Randall is the new head coach at Woodlawn High School. Prior to the 2017 season, Randall was fired as head coach at Southern Lab after the LHSAA penalized the school for recruiting violations. Randall has since sued the LHSAA and Southern Lab for defamation and another hearing in that case is in April.

Skylar Mays had 18 points to lead LSU. The Tigers are usually a good free throw shooting team, but they were not last night as they were 16 of 25 from the charity striple.

In college baseball, Louisiana Tech improved to 4-0 with a 3-2 win over the Ragin Cajuns in 10 innings. Senior Mason Robinson drove in the winning run with a two-out single. McNeese snapped a five-game losing streak with an 83-75 overtime win over Central Arkansas. Southeastern Louisiana’s five-game winning streak was snapped as the Lions lsot the Privateers 89-68. The Privateers shot 60-percent from the field and hit 14 three-pointers. And Houston Baptist defeated Northwestern State 92-54.

In football news…LSU defensive tackle Dominic Livingston says in a social media post that family issues are why he’s entered the NCAA Transfer portal. The Houston native played in just one game as a true freshman last season.

The Saints name Phil Galiano as an assistant special teams coach. He was the special teams coordinator at Penn State last season and also served as an assistant special teams coach for Tampa Bay in 2012 and 13.

The number one ranked LSU baseball team is off to a 4-0 start after beating Southeastern Louisiana six to five last night. The Tigers bullpen was sharp and closer Todd Peterson picked up his second win of the season as he recorded the final four outs and struck out the final two hitters. He hit 98 miles per hour on the radar gun and Coach Paul Mainieri was impressed…

LSU was scheduled to play at Northwestern State tonight, but that game has been pushed back to March 12th because of the weather. The Tigers next game is Friday when they begin a three-game series against Bryant.

Louisiana Tech baseball’s home opener is tonight against the Ragin Cajuns. The Bulldogs are coming off a sweep over Southeastern Louisiana. The Cajuns are beginning a five-game road trip.

Tonight’s game is a contrast of styles, LSU averages 83 points a game, second best in the SEC, while Florida’s defense allows just 63 a game, which is the best in the Southeastern Conference. Tip time is at 6 PM.

Also tonight, Nicholls visits Southland Conference leader Sam Houston State, McNeese hosts Central Arkansas, Northwestern State is at Houston Baptist and UNO hosts Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions have won six of the past seven meetings.

The top ranked LSU baseball team improved to 4-0 yesterday with a 6-5 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Freshman Cole Henry gave up four runs in his first start, but the Tigers bullpen shutdown the winless Lions. Matt Beck, Devin Fontentot and Todd Peterson had shut out performances out of the pen. Peterson got the win and shortstop Josh Smith had two hits and two runs scored to lead the offense.

Tulane is also off to a 4-0 start after beating Lamar nine to one. Nicholls tied a program record with 25 runs in a 25-5 rout over Alcorn State in Thibodaux. The Colonels scored six runs in the first inning highlighted by a Brady Bell grand slam.

Tonight, Louisiana Tech hosts the Ragin Cajuns for the Bulldogs home opener. Tech is 3-0 after sweeping Southeastern Louisiana, while UL-Lafayette is 1-2 after losing a series to Texas.

LSU at Northwestern State has been pushed back to March 12th because of inclement weather.

Signing day for the 2020 class in football is still months away, but according to 24-7 sports, LSU has the top rated class. Recruiting analyst Shea Dixon says the Tigers are ranked just ahead of Alabama…

The crown jewel of LSU’s 2020 haul is undoubtedly the number one corner in America, California raised, and Louisiana linked Elias Ricks. Dixon says after locking in Derek Stingley Junior this year, stealing Ricks from the Golden State cements the team’s reputation as the new DBU.

Ricks’ father is a Bayou State native who imparted a love of Purple and Gold on his son from an early age.

LSU will bring a 21-4 record into tomorrow night’s game against Florida. The Tigers are tied with Tennessee for first place in the SEC and the Bayou Bengals will host the Vols on Saturday, but they can’t overlook Florida. The Gators are 6-and-6 in league play and have won two in a row, including an 18-point win over Alabama last time out. At this time, most NCAA bracket projections have the Tigers as a number three seed.

In college baseball today, LSU is hosing Southeastern Louisiana as we speak. McNeese is at Houston tonight. The game was originally scheduled for Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles, but because of inclement weather, the contest was moved to Houston. The Cougars will travel to McNeese on March 19th.

Nicholls is also in action tonight as they host Alcorn State, Jackson State is at Grambling.

The Ragin Cajuns-Louisiana Tech game has been moved to tomorrow. LSU’s game at Northwestern State has been postponed to March 12th.

According to 24-7 sports, LSU’s 2020 recruiting class is ranked number one in the country after receiving a commitment from four-star Texas defensive end Alec Bryant. Bryant is at Shadow Creek High in Pearland, Texas and this past season he recorded 18 tackles for a loss and eight sacks as his team finished as a state runner-up in Class 5-A. LSU’s 2020 class features 11 commitments, four of them are defensive linemen.

Because of the chance of storms in the Baton Rouge area tonight, the number one ranked LSU baseball team has moved up first pitch to 4 Pm for today’s game against Southeastern Louisiana. The Tigers are sending another freshman right-hander to the mound as Cole Henry will make his collegiate debut.

Freshman hurler Jaden Hill, who started in the win over Air Force on Sunday was named SEC Freshman of the Week as he gave up one run over five innings and struck out eight.

The LSU basketball team has moved up six spots in both polls. They are ranked 13th by the Associated and 15th in the coaches poll. When you look at the Tigers NCAA Tournament projections, most of the bracketologists have LSU as a three-seed. The Tigers begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Florida.

Last night in college basketball…Prairie View A-and-M dribbled past Grambling 92-87, while Mississippi Valley State upended Southern 70-59.

Louisiana Tech’s DaQuan Bracey is the Conference USA Player of the Week. The junior guard from Baltimore had a career-high 28 points in a win over UTEP on Thursday and then scored 23 points on Saturday in a win over Texas San Antonio. Day-Day shot 62-percent from the field in those two games. The Bulldogs are 7-and-7 in league play and they’ll host North Texas on Saturday at 7 PM. Tech is undefeated at home this year.

LSU basketball moved up six spots today in the latest A-P Top 25 poll to number 13. No other team in the country made a larger leap. 2009 was the last time the Tigers were ranked in the Top 15. The Bayou Bengals have two home games this week, Wednesday against Florida and then Saturday they’ll host fifth ranked Tennessee. The Vols were previously ranked number one, but were knocked down from the top spot after losing to Kentucky on Saturday.

It was a good opening weekend for the number one LSU baseball team as they earned victories over ULM, Army and Air Force. The Tigers had to come from behind to beat the Warhawks and Black Knights, but scored seven runs in the first inning to defeat the Falcons 17-5 on Sunday.

Jaden Hill was the winning the pitcher yesterday as he allowed just one run on four hits in five innings and struck out eight. Today he was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

The Tigers will look to improve to 4-0 tomorrow, when they host Southeastern Louisiana. The game has been moved up to 4 Pm, because of the threat of storms in the Baton Rouge area on Tuesday night.

Anthony Davis played only five minutes in last night’s All-Star game and scored four points. New Orleans does not return from the All-Star break until Friday when they visit Indiana. It’s unclear if Davis will be uniform or will interim general manager Danny Ferry tell A-D that he can watch the rest of the season from home.

After escaping with victories on Friday over ULM and Army on Saturday, the number one ranked LSU baseball team had an easy time of it yesterday as the Fighting Tigers defeated Air Force 17-5. Josh Smith had four hits and Antoine Duplantis also had three hits and drove in three runs. Freshman Jaden Hill struck out eight in his first collegiate start.

The Ragin Cajuns defeated 23rd ranked Texas eight to six yesterday to salvage the final game of the series. Junior Dalton Horton earned the victory as he pitched five solid innings.

Louisiana Tech swept Southeastern Louisiana with 12-8 win on Sunday in Hammond. The Bulldogs fell behind 8-4, but scored five runs in the sixth inning to overcome the four-run deficit. The Bulldogs scored 40 runs during the three game set.

ULM beat Army 10–3, Nicholls over S-I-U seven to three, Northwestern State topped Houston 2-1 in 11 innings.

LSU’s number three and four hitters Antoine Duplantis and Daniel Cabrera each hit two home runs last night as the Tigers finally pulled away for a 12-7 victory over ULM. Cabrera hit a two-run shot in the third inning and a solo home run in the sixth inning and he drove in five runs. Duplantis hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning and then a grand slam in the eighth inning. ULM Third baseman Chad Bell hit a two-run homer in the first inning off of LSU starting pitcher Zack Hess. Hess gave up five runs in his first start of the season.

The Ragin Cajuns fell to 23rd ranked Texas 3-1 in ten innings. UL-Lafayette scored a run in the ninth inning to tie the game. Gunner Leger threw five shutout innings in his first start since undergoing elbow and knee surgeries.

Louisiana Tech outscored Southeastern Louisiana 13-8 after falling behind six to one. Chris Clayton drove in five runs for the Bulldogs. Each team had 17 hits.

Today in college basketball, 19th ranked LSU looks to avoid a let down after beating 5th ranked Kentucky on Tuesday night. Today at 5 PM, the Tigers visit Georgia, who is just 1-and-10.

Also today, the Cajuns host ULM at 7 PM. Texas San Antonio is at Louisiana Tech. McNeese visits Southeastern Louisiana at Northwestern State hosts Stephen F Austin.
