What a game at Yulman Stadium last night as Tulane rallied from a three-touchdown deficit to beat Houston 31–28. Justin McMillian threw a 53-yard TD pass to Jalen McCleskey with three seconds left for the win.

Louisiana Tech plays a rare Friday night home game tonight against F-I-U. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz understands Friday is reserved for high school football, but he’ll take the national TV exposure they’ll get on the CBS Sports Network…

In high school football, select schools have decided not to play their state championship games at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Instead, they’ll hold their title games the week before the Prep Classic, possibly at UL-Lafayette, Southeastern Louisiana or Yulman Stadium.

Tonight in Yulman Stadium, Tulane will host Houston in the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams. Last year the Cougars beat the Green Wave 48-17 in Houston on a Thursday night.

Coach Sean Payton is not announcing a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game at Seattle, but veteran Teddy Bridgewater is expected to get the nod. Bridgewater’s last win as a starting Q-B was week 17 of the 2015 season when he was a member of the Vikings. Seattle is a tough place to play, so that will be a challenge for Bridgewater and his rookie center Erik McCoy. McCoy says running the football is one of their big keys and they hope some long sustained drives can’t keep the crowd out of it…

The Pelicans announced today that Fox Sports New Orleans will broadcast 72 regular-season games this year, plus a preseason game at the Smoothie King Center on October 11th versus the Utah Jazz. Last night on his radio show, Coach Ed Orgeron gave a timeline on when defensive ends Glen Logan and Rashard Lawrence might return. Orgeron says Lawerence could be back in two weeks for the Utah State game, while Logan might not be back until the Florida game on October 12th.

Saints Coach Sean Payton will not say who will start at quarterback on Sunday against Seattle. Payton says they are preparing for both Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill to play. The team has activated wide receiver Lil-Jordan Humphrey to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. Humphrey is an undrafted rookie from Texas.

Week four of the college football season gets underway tonight as Tulane hosts Houston in the American Athletic Conference opener. The Green Wave are 2-and-1, while the Cougars are one and two. Houston quarterback D’Eriq King has a rushing and passing touchdown in 14 straight games, which ties Tim Tebow’s FBS record.

Tomorrow night, Louisiana Tech hosts F-I-U on CBS Sports Network. The Bulldogs have never lost to the Panthers in three previous meetings.

Tonight, the LHSAA Game of the Week, which is streamed on the association’s website, will be Airline High at Ruston. The game will be played at Joe Aillet Stadium.

The LSU Tigers blazing hot offense rolls into Nashville Saturday to take on Vanderbilt for the team’s first SEC matchup of the season. Commodores coach Derek Mason has yet to coach against LSU since his 2014 hire, but he’s watched tape on the team and can tell this year’s Tigers are different.

Week four of the college football season begins tonight as Tulane hosts Houston for its American Athletic Conference opener. The game will air live on ESPN starting at 7 PM. The Green Wave are searching for their fifth straight win at home.

Saints QB Drew Brees said on social media that surgery on his injured thumb was a success, but an official timetable on when he’s expected back has not been given. Reports indicate the injury could take six weeks to fully heal. Coach Sean Payton says there are no plans to put Drew on injured reserve.

Payton is not naming a starter for Sunday’s game at Seattle, he says the plan is to play both Teddy Bridgewater and Taysom Hill. The team has also promoted Lil-Jordan Humphrey from the practice squad to the active roster.

In other NFL news…Carolina Panthers Cam Newton missed practice yesterday with his bothersome foot injury. Kyle Allen could get the start against Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.

Tonight’s NFL matchup is Tennessee at Jacksonville. Leonard Fournette has rushed for 103 yards through two games this season for the Jags.

Tonight’s LHSAA game of the week, which will be streamed on the association’s website will be Airline versus Ruston.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees had surgery this afternoon on his injured thumb. Earlier today, Coach Sean Payton spoke with reporters from Seattle and would not name a starter for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Teddy Bridgewater filled in for the injured Brees last week, but failed to guide the Saints into the end zone. Payton is not putting the blame on Bridgewater though…

Payton says there are no plans to put Brees on injured reserve. The team has put wide receiver Keith Kirkwood on I-R because of a hamstring injury.

ESPN.com’s Andrew Lopez reports that Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram and guard Lonzo Ball have been full participants in the team’s voluntary offseason workouts. Both players had significant injuries last season.

It was a little surprising to see Northwestern State score two touchdowns against LSU’s defense last Saturday. But safety Jacoby Stevens says once they woke up, they made the proper adjustments and they understand the mistakes made

The Tigers are at Vanderbilt this Saturday at 11 AM. The major news coming out of the SEC Coaches teleconference this morning is that LSU will wear its purple jerseys again this Saturday.

LSU has released its 2020 baseball schedule. The Tigers will open the season at home against Indiana on Valentine’s Day. LSU’s first road game will be February 19th in Thibodaux versus the Nicholls Colonels. SEC play begins March 13th at Ole Miss. The Tigers will host the defending national champion Vanderbilt Commodores during the first weekend of April.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees undergoes thumb surgery today in Los Angeles and once its completed an official timeline will be given on when the future hall of famer will return. Six weeks is the best guess at this point. New Orleans has re-signed quarterback J-T Barrett to the practice squad and put wide receiver Keith Kirkwood on injured reserve.

LSU played better on defense in the second half against Northwestern State, after allowing the Demons to score two touchdowns in the first half. Linebacker Patrick Queen says communication was the key to a better performance in the second half…

After three games, LSU QB Joe Burrow is in contention to win the Heisman. USA Today conducted a poll of Heisman voters and Burrow finished third behind Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts, who finished first and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa who finished second.

The Saints are in Seattle for their off day and they’ll get back to work tomorrow for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Defensive End Cam Jordan had his first fumble recovery for a touchdown in the NFL taken away because the officials erroneously blew the whistle. Jordan says the refs screwed up again, but there are other reasons why they lost in L-A….

Injuries are mounting for LSU on defense. Coach Ed Orgeron said today that safety Todd Harris will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in the lopsided win over Northwestern State. Coach “O” also said defensive ends Rashard Lawrence and Glen Logan will miss a second straight week and will not play Saturday at Vanderbilt. Kick-off is at 11.

LSU is not the only one playing its conference opener this week. Tulane will host Houston on Thursday in a game that will be televised by ESPN. Louisiana Tech kicks off Conference USA action by hosting F-I-U on the C-B-S Sports Network, in a game that will take place on Friday.

League play begins this week in the Southland Conference. Nicholls will visit Stephen F Austin. The Colonels are ranked 11th in the country after their come from behind win over Prairie View. Southeastern Louisiana is ranked 22nd after losing by just 11 points to Ole Miss. The Lions host Lamar at 7 PM.
