The Pelicans are off today after pulling off a stunning 24-point come from behind win over the Celtics yesterday. That’s the largest comeback victory in franchise history. Brandon Ingram had 33 points in the 120 to 115 overtime win. New Orleans hosts Detroit on Wednesday.

The LSU men’s basketball team takes a three-game winning streak into Athens tomorrow where they’ll face the Georgia Bulldogs. Coach Will Wade says it will be difficult to beat the Bulldogs on their home floor…

LSU faces Louisiana Tech at 5 PM today at Alex Box Stadium. The Bulldogs won their season opener yesterday at the Box, blasting Air Force 18-1. Taylor Young hit two home runs and drove in four runs. Jonathan Fincher struck out ten over five innings.

Before that game, the Tigers fell to Air Force six to five. Air Force scored three runs in the ninth as Ty Floyd and Aaron George each walked two hitters. But before that inning, freshman third baseman Will Hellmers committed three errors at the hot corner…

For the first time since 1994, the LSU men’s basketball team hit the century mark in an SEC game as the Bayou Bengals blew out Auburn 104-80 on Saturday.  Five players scored in double figures, led by freshman Cam Thomas and his 27 points.  Trendon Watford had a double-double and so did Josh LeBlanc who had 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.  Coach Will Wade says it was a great team effort.

The New Orleans Pelicans grabbed an overtime win over the Boston Celtics last night 120-115.  The Pels were led offensively by Brandon Ingram who poured in a game-high 33 points.  Zion Williamson added a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds.

The ULM basketball team got a 78-66 victory over Little Rock yesterday in Monroe.

It was a tough day at the ballpark for the LSU baseball team as they lost to Air Force for the first time in school history yesterday 6 to 5.  The loss drops LSU’s record to 1-1 after winning the season opener on Saturday 6 to 1.  The Tigers only have 14 hits after two games and coach Paul Mainieri says the hitting will need to improve.

All three games against ULL and Tulane went to extra innings, with the Ragin Cajuns winning the series two games to one after a 9-7 victory yesterday after 12 innings.

Louisiana Tech’s baseball team blew out Air Force 18-1 last night.  They play LSU tonight.

The Pelicans pulled off the largest comeback in franchise history yesterday as they beat Boston 120 to 115 in overtime. New Orleans trailed by 24 points in the third quarter, but they held the Celtics to 21 points in the fourth quarter. Brandon Ingram had 33 points and Zion Williamson had 28.

The Ragin Cajuns defeated Tulane 9-7 in 12 innings yesterday to take the weekend series over the Green Wave.

Zach Streif is leaving the broadcast booth as the voice of the Saints to become an assistant offensive line coach for the Black and Gold. Streif played 12 seasons with the Saints as a right tackle and spent the last three years calling football games for the franchise he loves. Streif says he wants to help young guys grow and develop.

In college football last night, Nicholls scored 13 touchdowns as they scored a school-record 87 points in an 87-3 win over Lincoln University of Missouri., which is a division two school. Lindsey Scott threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Nicholls hosts Lamar next Saturday.

The Pelicans were outscored 41-12 in the fourth quarter last night and were burned by the Suns 132 to 114. Defending the three-point shot continues to be a problem for New Orleans as Phoenix hit 22 of them.

On the PGA Tour, former LSU golfer Sam Burns has a five-shot lead over Dustin Johnson after two rounds at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles.

Yesterday, Luis Aviles two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the tenth gave Tulane a three to two victory over the Ragin Cajuns. McNeese outhit 25th ranked Alabama 12 to 9 last night but lost to the Crimson Tide ten to six. The series continues today at 2 PM.

The LSU men’s basketball team will host Auburn in Baton Rouge on Saturday at 3 p.m.  While Auburn sits at 11-11 on the season, they’ve played well lately led by point guard Sharife Cooper.  Auburn has a great transition offense and Wade says his team will need to be ready to defend after made baskets in order to slow them down.

The ULM-Little Rock men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders is scheduled for Sunday the 21st and
Monday the 22th  in Monroe.  The games were pushed back due to winter storms that impacted travel.  Tip-off times are the same for both days, with the women playing at 1 p.m. followed by the men at 4.  General admission tickets are priced at 10 dollars for each doubleheader and are available through the ULM ticket office in the Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Due to ongoing travel restrictions brought on by this week’s weather conditions, both basketball series for Louisiana Tech versus Middle Tennessee have been postponed.

The Nicholls State Colonels will begin their 2021 spring football season tonight as they host Lincoln University of Missouri at 6 p.m.  Nicholls will be looking to improve its 22-26 all-time record in season openers after a loss at Kansas State in 2019.  Coming off of two-straight Southland Conference championships, Nicholls was picked to repeat as champs in the spring season.

The Northwestern State football team has not played a game in 457 days and now the Demons will have to wait even longer, as Saturday’s season opener against Lamar has been postponed because of snow and ice-covered roads in Louisiana and Texas.  The game has been rescheduled for March 27th.  The Demons will now open the spring season against Nicholls on March 6th.

LSU has a lot of experienced pitchers, but the infield is inexperienced.  Freshman Will Hellmers could get the start at third base.  Hellmers was recruited as a pitcher out of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, but Mainieri says he’s got a good glove and also brings an edge to the field.

Southeastern Louisiana will host the 2021 Southland Conference baseball tournament at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field from May 26th to the 29th.  The neighborhood ballpark has led the conference in per-game attendance each of the last six seasons.  It will be the second time Southeastern serves as the site of the conference tournament, previously hosting in 2004.

It’s the opening day of the college baseball season, but because of the weather, there are only a few games on the schedule today. The Ragin Cajuns are at Tulane, McNeese is at 25th ranked Alabama while Nicholls hosts Eastern Illinois.

Tomorrow the seventh-ranked LSU Tigers will open the season by hosting Air Force at 1 PM. Potential first-round pick Jaden Hill is set to get the start on the mound for the Tigers in the season opener. Hill didn’t give up a run 11.2 innings last season. Coach Paul Mainieri says they plan to pitch the big right-hander three innings on Saturday…

La Tech will begin its season in Baton Rouge on Sunday at 4 PM when they face Air Force.

LSU basketball returns to action tomorrow when they host Auburn. The Fighting Tigers are 13-6 overall, 8-and-4 in the SEC, and have a NET ranking of 26. ESPN and CBS bracketologists have LSU as an eight-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team will also play tomorrow beginning a two-game series with Middle Tennessee. The Bulldogs will bring a 17-6 overall record and a 10-4 conference record to Murfreesboro as they take on the Blue Raiders, who currently sit at 5-13. Tech coach Eric Konkol says Middle Tennessee has played well as of late.

Zion Williamson tied a career-high with 36 points last night but Portland’s Damien Lilliard scored 43, including seven three-pointers in a 126 to 124 win for the Trail Blazers in New Orleans. Portland hit 18 3s as they recovered in the second half after being outscored by 15 in the second quarter. It was another frustrating night for Pels coach Stan Van Gundy…

The loss drops New Orleans record to 12 and 18 and they will continue their four-game homestand on Friday against Pheonix.

A big trade in the NFL today as the Eagles dealt quarterback Carson Wentz to the Colts for a second and third-round draft pick.

Notre Dame will not travel to LSU for the opening weekend of the baseball series. So that means the Tigers will play Air Force in the season opener on Saturday at 1 PM and then Air Force again on Sunday at noon. Louisiana Tech ends up playing two games in Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs season opener will be Sunday at 4 PM against Air Force and then they’ll take on the Tigers Monday night at 6:30.

The Southland Conference announces all of its football games this spring will be available on ESPN plus. Cox Sports Television will also show three games plus this Friday’s non-conference matchup between Nicholls and Lincoln, Missouri. Also this weekend, Northwestern State will kick-off its spring season by traveling to Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.

The SWAC has determined Alcorn State will have to forfeit the six games they were scheduled to play during the upcoming spring season because they’ve opted out. So that means Southern will get credited with a win for a game they had scheduled with Alcorn on March 27th. Also instead of Alcorn hosting Southern in the fall, they will now travel to Mumford Stadium.

The New Orleans Pelicans lost a close one last night to the Portland Trail Blazers 126-124.  The Pels shot almost 47 percent from three-point range as a team.  Zion Williamson scored a team-high 36 points, but Blazers point guard Damian Lillard was too much to handle as he poured in 43 points to go along with 16 assists.  Head coach Stan Van Gundy says he needs to see more from his team on the defensive end.

LSU baseball’s season opener against Air Force that was scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled to Saturday at 1 p.m. due to inclement weather throughout the country.  The Tigers will now face Notre Dame on Sunday at noon and then will play Louisiana Tech at 6:30 on Monday to close out the opening weekend in Alex Box Stadium.

The LSU vs Ole Miss basketball game that was scheduled for tonight has been postponed due to the icy conditions throughout the region.  With that news, LSU will now turn its attention to Auburn as they will host the Tigers in Baton Rouge at 3 p.m. on Saturday.  LSU is currently 13-6 with an 8-4 record in the SEC, while Auburn is 11-11 with a 5-8 conference mark.

ESPN and CBS Sports released NCAA tournament projections and both included LSU.  ESPN has the Tigers as an 8 seed playing ninth seed San Diego St. in West Lafayette, Indiana.  CBS also has LSU as the eight-seed in West Lafayette but has the Tigers squaring off against Colorado State.

Southern’s losing streak against Alcorn State in football has ended.  The SWAC office has declared that Alcorn’s decision to opt-out of the spring season means the program will forfeit its scheduled games, which means the Jaguars will be declared the winner of the matchup that was supposed to take place on March 27th.  Southern has lost the past eight games against Alcorn St on the gridiron, including the past two SWAC championship games.

Zion Williamson scored 36 points last night but Damian Lilliard had 43 and 16 assists as the Trail Blazers topped the Pelicans 126 to 124 last night. Lillard scored 11 points in the fourth quarter including a go-ahead three-point play with 16 seconds left. New Orleans also lost starting center Steven Adams to a right ankle injury. The Pels will host the Suns tomorrow.

The LSU men’s basketball team scheduled game against Ole Miss today has been postponed because of the winter weather. No make-up date, so the Tigers next game is Saturday versus Auburn at 3 PM.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball weekend series against U-T Arlington has been postponed. The two-game series was set to begin Friday in the Cajundome.

Louisiana Tech’s two-game series against Middle Tennessee has been moved back a day and will now start on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.

As a result of travel issues because of the winter weather, LSU’s 2021 baseball season will not start until Saturday when they host Air Force at 1 PM. They will host Notre Dame at noon on Sunday and then Louisiana Tech on Monday night. The Bulldogs will open their season on Saturday at 5 PM against Notre Dame and then face Air Force at 4:00 and then LSU on Monday night.

The cold weather has also prompted Tulane and the Ragin Cajuns to move up their season opener on Friday from 6 PM to 2 PM.
