The Bengals open the season by hosting the Minnesota Vikings.

LSU annnounced today it will open the 2024 season in Las Vegas agaisnt the U-S-C Trojans. The Tigers will also play UCLA that seasons in Tiger Stadium on September 21st.

The PAC-12 says it has decided not to purse expansion of of their membership at this time. There was talk that the Pac-12 may look to add Big 12 schools. This development could prevent Texas and Oklahoma from making the jump to the SEC in the next year or two, since the Big 12 is not being torn apart.

The 2021 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame class will be inducted this weekend in Natchitoches as festivities get underway. It’s an outstanding class that’s highlighted by former Saints receiver Marques Colston, former LSU defensive tackle Glen Dorsey and LSU basketball legend Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

There are several High School football jamborees tonight. Unfortunately, some schools had to back out of their jamboree because of COVID issues. Baker High School in East Baton Rouge Parish is mourning the death of a freshman football player who died as a result of COVID.

LSU versus UCLA will kick off on September 4th at Seven PM.

Nick Underhill at New Orleans-dot-football reports that tight end Adam Trautman will see a foot specialist tomorrow after he left Monday’s preseason game on a cart. But Underhill says the hope is that the second-year pro will only miss one to three weeks.

The other tight ends on the roster are Juwan Johnson, Ethan Wolf and Garrett Griffin. Griffin is hurt and didn’t play on Monday, but Underhill reports he should be ready for week one.

Former Saints Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was named the Broncos starting quarterback today. Bridgewater beat out incumbent starter Drew Lock.

Conference USA announces its championship football game will be played on Friday, December 3rd. CBS Sports Network will televise the game, which will get underway at 6 PM. The title game will feature champions from the East and West Divisions and the team with the highest league winning percentage will serve as the host site for the game.

We should learn more about the battle for starting quarterback at Louisiana Tech. Coach Skip Holtz is expected to discuss QBS tomorrow.

Saints Tight end Adam Trautman left Monday’s game on a cart and he’s expected to miss some time with an injured left foot. Trautman caught 15 passes as a rookie last season. Trautman’s injury leaves New Orleans thin at the tight end position. They had just two at practice yesterday, Juwan Johnson and Ethan Wolf.

Former Jennings star Travis Etienne will miss his rookie season with the Jaguars after injuring his foot in Monday’s loss to the Saints.

The Saints have placed three players on injured reserve, defensive tackle Jalen Dalton, offensive lineman Ethan Greenidge and cornerback Brian Poole. Dalton played well in the preseason game on Monday as he had four tackles, a sack, a tackle for a loss, and a pass breakup. But there are reports he tore his triceps muscle.

Big night for Jameis Winston last night as he looks to lock down the starting quarterback job for the Saints. Winston was nine of ten for 123 yards and two touchdowns in his start since 2019….

In two preseason games, Winston and Taysom Hill have each thrown for 219 yards and an interception. but Winston has thrown three touchdown passes. Two of those passes went to second-year wide receiver Marquez Callaway, who had a beautiful one-handed TD grab late in the first quarter.

The defense also played well, holding Jacksonville to just three points over the first three quarters. Newly signed kicker Aldrick Rosas booted a 52-yard field goal to finish out the first half.

New Orleans has one more preseason game and that’s this Saturday at home against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Lafayette Little League All-Star team was eliminated from the Little League World Series last night, falling to a team from Ohio by the score of eight to two. Lafayette could not overcome a five-run fourth inning.

The Lafayette Little League Team was eliminated from the Little League World Series last night. Ohio defeated the team from the Bayou State eight to two. The Lafayette All-Stars went 1 and 2 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

There’s a concern about the LSU offensive line. It did not perform well in the first scrimmage but showed some improvement in the second scrimmage. Center Liam Shanahan

Jameis Winston will get the start tonight after Taysom Hill started the preseason opener. Saints coach Sean Payton told NBC’s Peter King that he hopes to name a starter before the final preseason game for the Saints on Saturday against Arizona.

And there are reports the starters are expected to see a lot of snaps tonight as most of the starters are not expected to play in the preseason finale against the Cardinals.

And tonight is the first NFL game where fans will have to show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test to enter the Superdome. Kick-off is at 7 PM.

LSU’s number two quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 303 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers second scrimmage of preseason camp. Starter Max Johnson threw for 125 yards and one touchdown. LSU’s top two running backs Ty Davis-Price and John Emery Junior did not participate because of injuries. Sophomore Josh Williams led the ground attack as he rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown.

The offensive line did not play well in the first scrimmage. But LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says he saw improvement with the o-line on Saturday…

Trevor Lawrence is expected to start at QB for the Jaguars. Lawerence returns to the Superdome, a venue where he suffered the only two losses of his college career. With less than two weeks to go before the season opener against the UCLA Bruins, the LSU Tigers top two running backs are both hurt. Juniors Ty Davis-Price and John Emery Junior did not participate in Saturday’s scrimmage because of nagging injuries. So sophomore Josh Williams led all rushers with 66 yards on the ground and a touchdown. True freshman Armani Goodwin had six carries on 25 yards. Orgeron hopes Davis-Price and Emery return soon…

The Saints will debut a new kicker, Aldrick Rosas, who will fill in for the injured Will Lutz. Rosas is a former pro bowl kicker for the New York Giants. In 2018, he made 32 of his 33 field goals. But struggled in 2019 and appeared in just six games for the Jaguars last season.
