The NFL and the Saints have finalized where the Black and Gold will play their first regular-season game and where they will practice for what could be the next month. Instead of opening the season at home in the Superdome against the Packers, the Saints will play Green Bay in Jacksonville in the Jaguars’ home stadium. And the Saints say they will practice at TCU’s facilities in Fort Worth, Texas until New Orleans is ready to have people and businesses back.

When the Saints return to the field, Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback. Coach Sean Payton says Winston earned the job and likes his unique skill set. Payton would not say if Hill will go back to his utility role on offense, but says Taysom will help the Saints win games this year…

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron said today that freshman wide receiver Malik Nabers will not play in the season opener against UCLA because of a shoulder injury. The injury could sideline him for several weeks. Orgeron has been impressed with Nabers who missed his senior season at Southside High School in Lafayette, because of LHSAA transfer rules.

La Tech Football Coach Skip Holtz has named Austin Kendall as the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs season opener at Mississippi State. Rhett Rodriguez will be the starting Q-B for ULM as they open the season at Kentucky. The Wildcats are 31 point favorites. ULM Coach Terry Bowden is asking his guys to play the best game they possibly can…

The Saints will play their first game in Jacksonville as they will host the Packers at the Jaguars’ home stadium. The game will still kick off at 3:25 PM.

Season ticket holders will receive access to tickets prior to a general on-sale for fans. More details on ticket sales timing and policies will be released tomorrow.

For now, the team has relocated to Dallas, but they could not play at the Cowboys stadium, because there is a concert at the venue that week.

The players’ families also relocated to Dallas. Coach Sean Payton says it’s been an interesting experience…

Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas will start the season on the physically unable to perform list, which means he’ll have to miss at least the first five regular-season games

After missing several practices during camp, LSU Coach Ed Orgeron has confirmed All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Junior has returned to practice as the team continues to hold workouts in Houston. Orgeron also says fellow starting cornerback Eli Ricks, who has also battled injuries, is practicing as well. Coach O says they’ll have most of the team available for the season opener at UCLA on Saturday.

Today was also cut-down day. The Saints had to get their roster down to 53 players. There are reports the team let go running back Devonta Freeman and put wide receiver Michael Thomas on the physically unable to perform list, which means he can’t return for six weeks.

The big cut in the NFL today was in New England as the Patriots said goodbye to Cam Newton and Mac Jones will be the Pats starting quarterback.

The LSU football team is in Houston getting ready for its season opener against UCLA. Tigers Coach Ed Orgeron told a Baton Rouge station that cornerbacks Derek Stingley and Eli Ricks have both returned to practice after missing much of camp with injuries.

ULM Coach Terry Bowden has named Rhett Rodriguez as the team’s starting quarterback for the season opener against Kentucky. Louisiana Tech is going with Austin Kendall as the Bulldogs will visit Mississippi State on Saturday.

Instead of hosting second-ranked Oklahoma, Tulane will play the Sooners in Norman, Oklahoma. Southeastern Louisiana’s season opener against North Alabama has been moved from Hammond to Florence Alabama.

This is the opening weekend of high school football. Because New Orleans schools can’t play, St. Thomas More will host Madison Prep in a game featuring two teams that won a state title las season.

The players’ families also evacuated with the team, But some of them will find out today they no longer have a job in the NFL as the Saints have to reduce their roster to 53 players by 3 PM.

Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson has donated one million dollars towards Hurricane Ida relief. The Saints also say the Superdome only suffered minor damage from Ida.

Tulane was set to hold second-ranked Oklahoma this Saturday, but that game will now be played in Norman, Oklahoma because of the damage Hurricane Ida did to New Orleans. Kick-off is at 11 AM and the game will be seen on ABC.

Still no word on Southeastern Louisiana’s home game this Saturday against North Alabama.

The SEC announces teams will have to forfeit a game if they are unable to participate in a contest due to COVID unavailability issues. LSU has said that 99-percent of its football players are vaccinated.

The NFL and its players’ association have agreed that fully vaccinated players and staff members must test weekly for COVID. The original play was to test every two weeks. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated players will continue to test every day, even off days.

The Saints are practicing in Dallas as they left before Hurricane Ida caused massive damage in Crescent City. Coach Sean Payton the players’ families also made it Dallas and knows this is a difficult situation for everyone…

Payton says he’s unsure if the Saints will host Green Bay in the Superdome in Week one. He says they’ll have a plan B, but its unlikely the game will be played in Green Bay. Before New Orleans can play the game, roster cuts need to take place. Payton says the roster reduction will take place over the next couple of days.

Tulane was set to host second-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday. But the Green Wave will not be able to play in New Orleans, so there’s talk about playing the game in Lincoln, Nebraska instead. Tulane’s football team evacuated to Birmingham before the storm’s arrival.

The Fighting Tigers are in Houston and will spend the rest of the week there preparing for Saturday’s season opener against UCLA. The Bayou Bengals will leave for Los Angeles on Thursday.

The Bruins blew out a hapless Hawaii team on Saturday 44 to 10. UCLA held Hawaii to just 26 yards rushing and intercepted two passes. Special teams blocked a punt for a touchdown and Bruins running back Zach Charbonnnet rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns. It was not a great day for UCLA Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The senior from Las Vegas threw for only 130 yards and one touchdown.

Here’s the rest of the schedule involving Louisiana teams. Louisiana Tech is at Mississippi State. ULM travels to Kentucky. Nicholls is at Memphis, Northwestern State is at North Texas, Southern is at Troy, Grambling is a Tennessee State McNeese hosts West Florida and Southeastern Louisiana is scheduled to host North Alabama.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jameis Winston has won the battle to be the Saints starting quarterback when they begin the regular season in two weeks. Winston beat out Taysom Hill and separated himself when he completed nine of ten passes, including a couple of touchdown passes to Marquez Callaway in Monday’s preseason game.

New Orleans will conclude the preseason tomorrow against the Cardinals. Because of the approaching Hurricane Ida, kick-off has been moved up from seven PM to noon.

Third-round pick Paulson Adebo has a chance to be a starting cornerback for the Saints. Adebo didn’t play last season at Stanford, but he says there were some benefits to that decision

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 2021 class this weekend in Natchitoches. LSU legend Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf is finally getting in. He was known as Chris Jackson when he played for the Purple and Gold and set the NCAA freshman scoring record when he averaged 30 points a game during the 1988-89 season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Jameis Winston has been named the starting quarterback for the team’s week one regular season game against the Green Bay Packers. The 27-year-old Winston and former number one draft pick has not started an NFL regular season game since 2019.

New Orleans will close out the preseason tomorrow when they host the Arizona Cardinals. Game time has been moved up from seven Pm to noon because of Tropical Storm Ida.

LSU has a chance to scout its first opponent of 2021 as UCLA will face Hawaii at 2:30 on Saturday. Coach Ed Orgeron on getting a chance to see the Bruins in action and how that will impact in their game plan…
