Kennesaw State hits .301 as a team and their top pitcher is senior left-hander John Bezdicek, who is 5-and-1 with a 3.75 ERA.

In the Austin Regional tonight, Louisiana Tech faces future Conference USA member Dallas Baptist at 6:30. In College Station, The Ragin Cajuns takes on T-C-U and in Auburn, Southeastern Louisiana looks to pull off an upset as they face Auburn Tigers.

The Saints have wrapped up week two of OTAs and coach Dennis Allen is happy with what he’s seen so far. The offense has plenty of new personnel, so does that mean we’ll see a more aggressive Saints attack in 2022? Allen says you’ll have to wait and see.

Based on media reports from yesterday’s O-T-A session, recently signed wide receiver Jarvis Landry looked really good.

The Louisiana High School Atheltic Association is redefining what is a select school by using a bylaw that calls for the promotion of fair play. The new definition could increase the number of select schools from 109 to 198 and there would be 207 schools on the non-select side for the 2022-23 athletic year. Schools that want to stay on the non-select side have until June 22nd to change their open enrollment districts. Also, championship events will return to one site again.

In some good news, Jacob Berry practiced at third base today, a strong indicator that he will play tomorrow. The Tigers will take on Kennesaw State at 6 pm.

The LHSAA executive committee expanded the definition for select schools that will increase their number by a 16-5 vote Thursday afternoon. Based on an interpretation of bylaw 4-point-4-point-4, which is designed to promote fair play, an estimated 198 schools will be considered select and 207 nonselect for the 2022-23 school year.

LSU athletics director Scott Woodward tells the Advocate there’s no rush to approve a new scheduling format for football in the Southeastern Conference. It’s possible a vote could take place tomorrow when the SEC spring meetings end in Destin, Florida. The discussion surrounds whether there will be eight or nine conference games and how many permanent opponents, between one and three have been thrown around, as many expect the SEC will scrap the division format.

N-I-L is also a popular discussion at the S-E-C spring meetings. Tigers football coach Brian Kelly says name, image, and likeness has turned into a runaway train…

The NBA Finals tip-off tonight in San Francisco as the Boston Celtics face the Golden State Warriors in a matchup of two of the league’s best performers on the biggest stage. The Warriors are playing for their seventh championship in their ninth finals appearance, while Boston goes for its 18th title in 21 appearances.

LSU baseball is on the road headed to Mississippi for the Hattiesburg Regional. Tigers head coach Jay Johnson says his team is confident but isn’t looking past anyone this weekend.

Southeastern plays top-seeded Auburn on Friday on the Plains. The Lions were 2-3 against the SEC, and Coach Matt Riser says that type of schedule in the regular season is what has them prepared for the postseason.

Lane Burroughs has done a great job of building the Louisiana Tech baseball program over six seasons, leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament in each of the last two. Tech is talented, with two wins over LSU and the Conference-USA tournament championship as evidence. The Dogs’ greatest asset, according to Burroughs, might be their resiliency.

The U-L Ragin’ Cajuns may have gotten into the tournament by the skin of their teeth, but they plan on sticking around for a while. Senior pitcher Austin Perrin says he and his teammates have worked too hard to stop now.

LSU will make the 169-mile trip east and open play on Friday night against third-seeded Kennesaw State in the Hattiesburg Regional. The Owls, champions of the Atlantic Sun Conference, are 35-26 this season and are making only their second-ever NCAA tournament appearance. Despite that, Tigers coach Jay Johnson says KSU isn’t to be taken lightly…

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Also traveling east will be the Southeastern Louisiana Lions who will be the fourth-seed at the Auburn Regional, meaning they will face the top-seeded Tigers on Friday. SLU went 2-3 against the SEC this season, with wins over Arkansas and Ole Miss.

The U-L Ragin’ Cajuns are back in the NCAA tournament for the first time in six years and as a reward, they will take on second-seeded TCU on Friday night. U-L dropped 2 of 3 to the Horned Frogs, the regular-season Big 12 champs, last season and outfielder Tyler Robertson hasn’t forgotten.

Louisiana Tech continues to prepare for its opponent in the Austin Regional, third-seeded Dallas Baptist. Tech feels like a program on the rise, with an 84-39 record over the last two seasons, including the Conference USA regular-season title last year and its first-ever tournament title this season.  The Patriots are in the tournament for the seventh straight season and will join Conference-USA in July, making this matchup even more intriguing.

EA Sports announced that to honor the late John Madden, the cover of the Madden NFL 23 video game will have his image on the cover of all three editions of the game. The gaming company will also make a $5 million donation to the John Madden Legacy Commitment to Education.

Johnson also said on Monday that he believes that both Cade Doughty and Jacob Berry will be available for the Regionals. Doughty has been sidelined with a dislocated shoulder since May 21, while Berry is recovering from a broken finger he suffered back on May 6. Gavin Dugas is listed as day-to-day with an injured thumb.

Southeastern gets back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2017 by shocking McNeese in the Southland Conference Championships. Matt Riser has led the Lions to the regionals four times in nine seasons, but this may have been the most difficult road there, as SLU won 22 of its last 33 after an 8-18 start.

The Lions are the four seed at the Auburn Regional, where they will face the top-seeded Tigers on Friday.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will head west to College Station, as they return to the NCAAs for the first time in six seasons after winning the Sun Belt tournament title this weekend. On the way to their fifth tournament championship, the Cajuns took down 11th-ranked Texas State and number 25 Georgia Southern and head to the regionals on a five-game winning streak. Third-seeded UL takes on second-seed TCU Friday at 7 pm.

And the Saints begin their second set of OTAs today in Metairie. There’ll be one more session next week before mandatory minicamp begins on June 14.

Southern Miss will kick off the regional by hosting Army at 1 PM. The winner of the Hattiesburg Regional will meet the winner of the Miami Regional, which is comprised of Miami, Arizona, Ole Miss, and Canisius in a Super Regional series.

Louisiana Tech is making back-to-back Regional appearances for the first time since 1986-87 as the Bulldogs are heading to the Austin Regional. Tech will face Dallas Baptist at 6:30 on Friday night. The Patriots beat the Diamond Dogs in Ruston seven to four on March 29th. Bulldogs Coach Lane Burroughs expects another tough battle this weekend…

The NBA Finals matchup is set as the Golden State Warriors will face the Boston Celtics. Boston beat the Miami Heat in seven games to make their 21st Finals appearance. Golden State will be playing in the Finals for the sixth time in the past eight seasons. Game one is Thursday night at 8 pm.

And Tulane guard Jalen Cook announced that he is withdrawing his name from the NBA draft and returning to the Wave for another season. As a sophomore, the LSU transfer was named first-team All-American Athletic Conference after averaging 18 points, 3.5 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. His scoring average was the highest for a Tulane player in over 20 years.

Despite winning 18 SEC games this season, the LSU Tigers will not host an NCAA Baseball Regional. The 16 regional sites were announced last night and the Tigers are not in that number. LSU has an RPI of 25 after going one and two in the SEC Tournament, which is why they’ll be on the road for the regionals. The pairings will be announced at 11 AM today.

The Ragin Cajuns are in the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2016 after rallying from a five-run deficit beat 25th ranked Georgia Southern seven to six in the Sun Belt Conference Championship game. Will Veillon drove in the winning run with a one-out RBI double in the ninth and Brandon Talley earned the save.

Louisiana Tech won its first postseason conference title since 1987 when it defeated UTSA nine to eight to win the Conference USA Baseball Championship. Right fielder Steele Netterville’s walk-off single puts the Bulldogs in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season.

Southeastern Louisiana will join LSU, Louisiana Tech, and U-L Lafayette in the NCAA Baseball Tournament after the Lions defeated McNeese 11 to seven on Saturday night in Lake Charles. It’s the Lions’ first Southland tournament title since 2014 and will send S-L-U back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017.

Southern nearly got into the NCAA Tournament as well, but the Jaguars lost to Alabama State six to five in 14 innings in the SWAC Tournament Championship game.

Former LSU golfer Sam Burns won his third PGA Tour event of the season as he defeated Scottie Scheffler to win the Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas. Burns won in dramatic fashion by sinking a 38-foot putt for birdie on the first playoff hole. Burns rallied from seven strokes down to get into the playoff.

The NBA Finals are set. It will be Golden State versus Boston as the Celtics defeated the Heat in Miami last night 100 to 96 to win Game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals.
