David Christie was the winning pitcher as he gave up one run in six innings. Riley Cooper suffered the loss for the Tigers as he allowed four runs in 3.1 innings.

Louisiana Tech won its fourth straight last night as the Bulldogs defeated Southern Miss three to one at J-C Love Field. Reed Smith was the winning pitcher as he allowed one run over five innings. Jorge Corona also homered for Tech.

LSU football will hold its spring game this Saturday in Tiger Stadium at 1 Pm. The format for this year’s spring game will feature an offense versus defense scrimmage. Fans will watch the quarterbacks, Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier compete, but Coach Brian Kelly says he’ll pa closer attention to the new players on the roster…

The top player in women’s basketball who is in the transfer portal, former Louisville point guard Hailey Van Lith, made an official visit to LSU yesterday.

In softball….McNeese rallied from a three-run deficit to beat 15th ranked LSU four to three in Lake Charles and the 25th ranked Cajuns softball team shutout Southeastern Louisiana seven to nothing.

LSU third baseman Tommy White was named SEC Hitter of the Week yesterday, but freshman first baseman Jared Jones has been equally hot. Johns says gamblers have placed three-billion dollars worth in legal sports bets in the last 17 months.

The top women’s college basketball player in the transfer portal, Hailey Van Lith, was reportedly on LSU’s campus today for an official visit. Van Lith was an All-ACC player at Louisville the last two seasons, averaging 20 points a game.

And LSU men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon has reportedly signed another Baton Rouge native out of the transfer portal. Carlos Stewart who played at Dunham High School has reportedly committed to LSU. Stewart played at Santa Clara last season and averaged 15 points a game.

At LSU spring practice…defensive tackle Maason Smith practiced today for the first time since tearing his ACL in last year’s season opener.

After sweeping F-I-U over the weekend, Louisiana Tech will host former Conference USA foe Southern Miss tonight. The Golden Eagles are ranked 25th and coming off a sweep of James Madison in Hattiesburg. Southern Miss designated hitter Slade Wilks is swinging a hot bat with 14 home runs, nine of the home runs have come in the last 14 days. The Bulldogs are 19-and-18 and Logan McLeod has a 23-game on-base streak.

Also tonight, after a long layoff Nicholls returns to the diamond to play Mississippi Valley State in Thibodaux, Southeastern Louisiana hosts Jackson State. Tulane is at UNO.

In high school softball action, Calvin High School in Winn Parish beat Castor 13 to 3 in a Division five non-select playoff game. The victory came two days after Calvin’s head coach Chad Camp was fatally shot. Authorities say Camp’s 17-year-old son shot his father during an argument. Calvin won the Class C Championship last season.

LSU men’s basketball announced today seven foot forward Will Baker has officially transferred to the Tigers. Baker will be a redshirt senior next season after spending the last two seasons at the University of Nevada. Last season he averaged 14 points and five rebounds a game and shot 56-percent from the floor. Excellent free throw shooter at 86-percent.

The top ranked LSU baseball team came away with another series victory over the weekend as they defeated Kentucky two games to one. The Tigers had to rally to win the series finale on Saturday. Down six to four in the seventh inning, LSU came back to win seven to six. Coach Jay Johnson says it was an impressive victory….

Louisiana had a tough series against Troy losing two out of three. ULM won the first game of its series against South Alabama, but dropped the next two. Louisiana Tech swept FIU as the Bulldogs. McNeese won two of three from Southeastern, while Northwestern lost its series at Houston Christian.

Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts is now the highest paid player in the NFL according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter after agreeing to a five-year, 255-million dollar contract.

And the New York Post is reporting ESPN has resigned former LSU Tiger and now NFL analyst Marcus Spears to a multi-million dollar, four year contract. Spears is seen on NFL Live, First Take and Get Up giving his takes on professional football.

UL Lafayette split a doubleheader with Troy yesterday, but lost the series to the Trojans. ULM lost a series to South Alabama. Louisiana Tech swept FIU as Jorge Corona and Ethan Bates homered yesterday. McNeese took two of three from Southeastern Louisiana by beating the Lions three to two in ten innings yesterday.

There is one week left of spring football for the LSU Tigers who bolstered their linebacker unit by signing Omar Speights out of the transfer portal. Speights was an All-Pac 12 performer at Oregon State and recorded 304 tackles in four seasons with O-S-U. Speights is expected to be a starter and a leader for the Tigers in 2023….

The Bayou Bengals committed a season-high three errors, walked five hitters and LSU pitchers also hit three batters. Six of Kentucky’s 13 runs were unearned. And LSU hit into four double plays, including one to end the game…

Also last night, the Ragin Cajuns lost at home as they fell to Troy nine to six, but ULM won its fourth straight as the Warhawks defeated South Alabama seven to six. Cardell Thibodaux had a three-run homer and Louisiana Tech topped FIU seven to five in a game that only took one hour and 54 minutes.

ULM completed spring football practice a couple of weeks ago. The Warhawks defense dominated the spring with takeaways and negative plays. ULM Coach Terry Bowden says next fall he wants to see more explosive plays from his offense…
