The top ranked LSU baseball team pulled off an impressive come from behind win yesterday to complete a three-game sweep of Ole Miss. Down six to four, with two outs, third-string catcher Hayden Travinski drilled a three-run homer down the left field line that resulted in a seven to six win for the Tigers. LSU third baseman Tommy White left the game with an injury. We are expecting an update today from Coach Jay Johnson.

Back to college Baseball, 18th ranked Dallas Baptist swept Louisiana Tech, the Ragin Cajuns were swept at James Madison, ULM dropped two of three to Arkansas State. Nicholls is in first place in the Southland Conference after sweeping Houston Christian. The Colonels are at LSU tomorrow night. Grambling won its series at Southern. The Tigers are 13-and-4 in the SWAC and in first place in the West.

Davis Riley and Nick Hardy won the Zurich Classic at the TPC Louisiana. It’s the time the duo has won on the PGA Tour.

LSU quarterbacks Jaiden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier each threw two touchdown passes in Saturday’s spring game, but the defense also made some big plays too. Coach Brian Kelly says linebackers Harold Perkins and Omar Speights were outstanding and the coach also believes Texas transfer and defensive end Ovie Oghoufu’s two sacks show he’s a really good addition…

Eleven Louisiana deer tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease during the 2022-23 hunting season, which brings the total to 12. All of the CWD cases have been in Tensas Parish. LDWF State Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. Jim LaCour says they have a control plan.

Hunters are strongly encouraged to get all deer harvested in the Tensas Parish area to get the carcass tested for CWD.

What a victory for the top ranked LSU baseball team yesterday in Oxford, down two runs with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Hayden Travinski drilled a one-two pitch for a three-run homer down the left field line to give the Tigers a seven to six victory over Ole Miss. The win completed a sweep over the Rebels and LSU is now in first place in the SEC west with a 12-and-5 record.

Louisiana Tech has completed its spring football practices as head coach Sonny Cumbie enters his second season. Boise State transfer Hank Bachmeier is expected to be the starting quarterback. Cumbie says during the offseason, he’s asking Bachmeier and the rest of the Bulldog players to immerse themselves in the playbook…

LSU third baseman Tommy White came into last night’s game against Ole Miss as the SEC RBI leader and Tommy Tanks added to his total as he knocked in four runs with one swing of the bat as the Bayou Bengals beat the Rebels seven to three. The Cajuns lost a back and forth affair to James Madison ten to eight, ULM scored three runs in the ninth to beat Arkansas State eight to six. Dallas Baptist downed Louisiana Tech nine to one. UIW beat Northwestern State 11-5 in 10 innings and Nicholls and McNeese were big winners.

College football games should not take as long as the NCAA has approved a new rule that results in the clock continuing to run after first downs, unless in its final two minutes of the first or second half. Also a team can no longer call consecutive timeouts and penalties at the end of the first and third quarter will be enforced on the first play of the next quarter.

Left-hander Xavier Rivas is set to start tonight for the Rebels. He’s 5-and-2 with a 5.40 ERA. Tomorrow Hunter Elliot will be on the hill for Ole Miss. He’s only made one start this season after posting a 2.70 ERA last season.

Louisiana Tech is at 18th ranked Dallas Baptist. The Bulldogs have won four in a row, while the Patriots have won eleven straight and they are 18-and-2 at home.

The Cajuns face James Madison for the first time on the baseball diamond.

Nicholls has a new men’s basketball coach as former player and staff member Tevon Saddler is coming back to Thibodaux after spending last year as the director of player personnel at Maryland. The 28-year-old was an All Southland performer for the Colonels in 2017-18.

The Rebels swept the Tigers last season and they have the best fielding percentage in the SEC. They also have one of the top shortstops in the league in Julian Gonzalez, a possible first round pick in the MLB draft.

Louisiana Tech takes a four-game winning streak to Dallas Baptist. The Patriots are 12 and 3 in league play, the Ragin Cajuns are at South Alabama, ULM is at Arkansas State. In the Southland, Northwestern State hosts first place UIW. Grambling is at Southern.

LSU closes out spring practice tomorrow with a scrimmage in Tiger Stadium that’s open to the fans. Jayden Daniels exits the spring as the starting quarterback heading into the 2023 season. Coach Brian Kelly says Daniels is bigger and stronger and he’s bringing a veteran presence to the team…

Former Cajuns wide receiver Michael Jefferson has been released from a hospital after he was involved in a fatal accident on April 9th. Jefferson still has more rehab ahead of him, but hopes to sign with an NFL team.

LSU’s win over the Hawkeyes in the women’s basketball national championship game has turned out to be a big winner for food banks. Meanwhile, LSU did not play well as they committed a couple of errors in the field, outfielders lost a couple of balls in the twilight and the Tigers pitchers walked six more hitters.

Louisiana Tech won its fourth straight as the Bulldogs knocked off 23rd ranked Southern Miss three to one. Solid pitching from Reed Smith, who allowed one earned in five innings.

Also last night, Southeastern clobbered Jackson State 14 to 4, Nicholls State crushed Mississippi Valley State 12 to three and Tulane topped UNO eight to six.

Tonight ULM is at Little Rock and Grambling hosts UIW.

New LSU special teams coordinator John Jancek met with the media as the Tigers get ready for their spring game this Saturday. Jancek is a former defensive coordinator at Georgia and Tennessee and this is his first stint as a special teams coordinator. Jancek says during his three decades of coaching experience, he’s always had a role in special teams…

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans tees tomorrow at the TPC Louisiana in Avondale. 80 two-man teams will compete in best ball and alternate shot formats over the next four days. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay are defending champs.
