Ragin Cajuns linebacker Cameron Whitfield is the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week. He had a career-high seven tackles and 3.5 sacks in a 33-20 win over South Alabama.

Grambling’s Sundiata Anderson has received SWAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. He had 12 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in the Tigers two touchdown win over Bethune Cookman.

Northwestern State defensive tackle Travon Jones has started a petition on change-dot-org in the hopes he can get a large number of signatures to convince Northwestern’s administration to let them play again this season. University President Doctor Marcus Jones made the controversial decision last week to end the season prematurely, citing the mental health of the players following the fatal shooting of safety Ronnie Caldwell. Travon Jones says most of the team wants to keep playing.

The Sugar Bowl is actively seeking money from the business community to make sure the annual bowl game remains one of the upper tier bowls when the college football playoff expands to 12 teams next year. Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley says the Sugar Bowl is only guaranteed to host a quarterfinal game following the 2024 and 25 seasons, beyond that it’s unknown…

The Rangers defeated the Diamondbacks three to one in Game 3 of the World Series. Texas leads the series two games to one. Game four is tonight in Arizona.

The parents of murdered Northwestern State football player Ronnie Caldwell blame coach Brad Laird for not doing enough to protect their son. The family says Caldwell was re-located to another apartment because of mold. Ronnie’s father, Ronald Caldwell Senior, says they told Laird his son needed to be re-located again because his new roommate, who is not a student, pulled a gun on him…

Ronald Caldwell Senior says the roommate pulled a gun on him on October 9th, three days later his son was fatally shot. No one has been charged in his murder, but the roommate, 27-year-old John McIntosh, has been arrested on gun and drug charges. Laird announced his resignation on Thursday and Northwestern State has canceled the rest of the season forfeiting its final four games.

The Saints will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Sunday when they visit the Indianapolis Colts. Quarterback Derek Carr has exhibited some emotional outbursts in these two defeats. The veteran plans to keep his emotions in check this Sunday…

Northwestern State has canceled the remainder of its football season and head coach Brad Laird has resigned after Junior Safety Ronnie Caldwell was killed two weeks ago. In a Natchitoches Parish Journal podcast, NSU President Marcus Jones said several players expressed difficulty with Caldwell’s death.

The Demons were scheduled to play McNeese this Saturday in Lake Charles. No one has been charged in the murder of Caldwell, but one of his former teammates was arrested on obstruction of justice charges. And Coach Laird steps down in the midst of his sixth season. Northwestern was suffering through a winless season.

Some sort of illness is going through the Saints locker room. Marcus Maye, Max Garcia and Jimmy Graham were all listed on the injury report with an illness. Running back Alvin Kamara missed Wednesday’s practice because he was sick, but he returned yesterday.

Here’s a look at your college football schedule this Saturday…ULM will host Arkansas State for homecoming. The Red Wolves have defeated the Warhawks in 13 consecutive games. They come into Saturday’s game with a record of 3-4. ULM Coach Terry Bowden says they are capable of producing big plays in the passing game…

The LSU women’s basketball team was on the court last night in exhibition action and dismantled Division Three East Texas Baptist 99-26. Flau’jae Johnson had 18 points and seven steals, Angel Reese had 17 points and eight rebounds.

Good start to the season for the Pelicans last night as they went on the road and defeated Memphis 111 to 104. C-J McCollum led the way with 24 points, Zion Williamson scored the team’s final 12 points and finished with 23. Brandon Ingram added 19. The next game is the home opener on Saturday against the New York Knicks.

The Saints are headed to Indianapolis this Sunday to face the Colts. Indianapolis starting quarterback Anthony Richardson is done for the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. But New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen says Indy’s backup Gardner Minshew is more than capable…

Also, the Tigers best corner, Zy Alexander, is expected to miss some time with a lower body injury.

Despite a 1-and-2 record in the Sun Belt, the Ragin Cajuns are still alive for a West Division championship as they get ready to visit South Alabama on Saturday. U-L Lafayette Coach Michael Desormeaux says they have five conference games left and they have to win them all…
