Terrence Graves was introduced today as the new head coach for the Southern Jaguars. The 53-year-old was serving as the interim coach after Eric Dooley was fired on November 14th. Testimony is underway in a federal courtroom in Baton Rouge in former LSU associate athletic director Sharon Lewis’ 50-million dollar lawsuit against LSU. Lewis claims LSU athletic officials retaliated against her because she tried to report sexual misconduct allegations against former LSU coach Les Miles and running backs coach Frank Wilson. Tiger Rag Editor Todd Horne says the first witness in the trial, a former student worker in the recruiting office, was emotional when retelling a story that Wilson kissed her and also attempted to give her gifts…

Many linebacker Tylen Singleton has signed his letter of intent with LSU as the four-star recruit will enroll in school in January.

Southern is removing the interim tag from Terrence Graves’ title as the 53-year-old will be the new head coach of the Jaguars. Graves is a longtime coach in the SWAC and this is his second stint with Southern.

Texas A-and-M has hired longtime former LSU strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffit.

The seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team defeated McNeese last night 133 to 44. The 133 points is the most in a single game in program history and the margin of victory was the largest in program history.

In men’s hoops…Louisiana Tech downed Southeastern Louisiana 89-60, Sam Houston edged ULM 63-62 and Boise State blew out Northwestern State 95-54.

Coach Will Wade makes his long-awaited return to the sidelines tonight as his McNeese team hosts Southern Miss in Lake Charles. The former LSU coach has not coached a game since March of 2022 and he was suspended for the first 10 games of this season because of recruiting violations that led to his firing in Baton Rouge. Wade is fiery on the sidelines, but after some time away, he might be a little calmer…

The Saints will face a good running back this Sunday when Saquon Barkley and the Giants visit the Dome. New York defeated Green Bay 24-22 last night and Barkley rushed for 86 yards and had two touchdowns. The Giants have won three in a row and they are now 5-and-8 on the season.

In college hoops, Louisiana Tech looks for its fourth straight win when the Bulldogs host Southeastern Louisiana tonight. The Lions are two and seven. Also tonight, ULM is at Sam Houston and Northwestern State visits Boise State.

It’s game week for the Ragin Cajuns as they will play Jacksonville State on Saturday in the New Orleans Bowl. U-L Lafayette will make its seventh New Orleans Bowl appearance on Saturday. There’s some grumbling among the fan base about another bowl game in New Orleans, but Coach Michael Desormeaux says the players are excited

Bowl practice is underway for the LSU Tigers. LSU released some highlights from the first day and it shows receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas practicing, but no Jayden Daniels. Daniels has not said if he plans to play against Wisconsin on New Year’s Day.

Louisiana Tech’s Tahlik Chavez was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. He averaged 19.5 points and four rebounds in a couple of victories last week. The Bulldogs host Southeastern Louisiana tonight.

The four and three ULM Warhawks begin a three-game road trip at Sam Houston, the one and eight Northwestern State Demons finish a seven-game road trip by visiting Boise State.

After suffering a 44 point loss to the Lakers last Thursday, the Pelicans responded by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 121 to 107 last night. Zion Williamson scored a season-high 36 points.

In Lafayette, the demolition of the west side of Cajun Field has started. The school is replacing the west side of the football stadium with 34 suites, 40 loge boxes, 524 club-level seats, and an expanded chairback section. The 65-million-dollar project is expected to be completed for the 2025 season. Coach Michael Desormeaux says it’s an exciting time for the program…

Kateri Poole started every game during the NCAA Tournament and now she’s no longer on the Lady Tigers. Coach Kim Mulkey did not give any reasons, but she has not played since November 17th. Her absence from the team nearly coincided with Angel Reese’s with four-game suspension. Poole played a big role in Reese transferring to LSU.

After a slow start, the seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team defeated U-L 83-53 as Aneesah Morrow had 27 points and 10 boards.

Calvary Baptist rallied to beat St. Charles Catholic and Union Parish had an exciting one point win over St. James for the division three nonselect title.

It’s expected Jayden Daniels will become LSU’s third Heisman Trophy winner as the award will be handed out tonight in New York City. Daniels won two big awards last night, the Walter Camp national Player of the Year award and the Davey O’Brien Award as the top quarterback in college football.

Union Parish ended its streak of three consecutive losses in the state championship game with a dramatic 36-35 win over St. James yesterday. The Farmers executed a two-point conversion with 11 seconds left for the winning score. Also at the Prep Classic, Opelousas won the school’s first state championship with a 26-13 win over Cecilia and Catholic High crushed Acadiana 55-31.

Today is the final day of the Prep Classic and the first game should be a high-scoring affair as Lafayette Christian takes on St. Thomas More. STM beat LCA in last year’s division two select state title game 52-48 and Cougars Hall of Fame Coach Jim Hightower is expecting another tough game…

Opelousas won its first state championship in football history as they it defeated district rival Cecilia 26-13. The Tigers rushed for 291 yards as D’Shawn Ford had 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Tomorrow, Ruston will try to win its first state title since 1990 when the Bearcats take on Zachary in the Division one non-select state title game. Last year Ruston lost to Destrehan in the championship game and Bearcats coach Jerrod Baugh says…
