Rough night for the Pelicans last night as they were burned by the Phoenix Suns 123 to 109. Devin Booker scored 52 points as the Suns won their fourth straight. Booker scored 25 in the first quarter. Zion Williamson had 24 points in the loss. The Pels next game is Tuesday against the Jazz.

LSU will try to go 4-1 in SEC play when they host Texas A-and-M. The Aggies are 1-and-3 in conference and they are coming off a one-point loss to Arkansas where Wade Taylor scored 41 points. Coach Matt McMahon on slowing down Taylor…

Corey Raymond is back in Purple and Gold. The longtime secondary coach is back with the Tigers and he’ll coach the cornerbacks. Raymond’s contract is reportedly for two years, with a school option for a third year that could keep him at LSU through 2026. The other two new additions are from Missouri…edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples and safeties coach Jake Olsen.

Former LSU offensive tackle Lance Heard has transferred to Tennessee. Heard is a former five-star prospect from Neville High School.

In college hoops action today…the Cajuns are at South Alabama. Both teams are 3-and-3 in the Sun Belt. ULM is at Old Dominion. The two teams have combined to win one league game.

Louisiana Tech is at Jacksonville State. Both teams are 2-and-1 in league play.

The New Orleans Pelicans will host the Phoenix Suns tonight. The Suns are 22-and-18 and they’ve won three in a row. The Pels are 25-and-17 and in fifth place in the West. They’ve shot the ball really well lately, eight games of 40-plus percent three-point shooting over the last ten games.

Jake Olsen was a defensive analyst at Missouri last season and he’ll coach safeties for LSU. Kevin Peoples is also coming from Missouri and he’ll coach the edge rushers.

The 10th ranked LSU women’s basketball team got back in the win column last night as the Lady Tigers topped Alabama 78-58 in Tuscaloosa. Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow each had 20 points, but sophomore Flau’Jae Johnson says their defense was the key….

ULM men’s basketball remains winless in the Sun Belt after losing to James Madison 89 to 70 last night. But the Warhawks women’s basketball team defeated the Lady Cajuns 65-59 at the Cajundome, snapping an 18-game losing streak to U-L Lafayette. Daisha Bradford had 20 points as ULM improves to 4-and-2 in the Sun Belt, while the Cajuns are 2-and-4.

Also in women’s basketball, Southeastern Louisiana improved to 5-and-0 in the Southland with a 55-48 win over Northwestern State. Nicholls topped U-I-W 65-59 and Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi topped McNeese 83-63.

The Pelicans will host the Phoenix Suns at the Smoothie King Center tonight. The Suns have won three in a row, but they trail New Orleans in the Western Conference standings. New Orleans is in 5th place with a 25-17 record, while the Suns are 22-18 and in eighth place. Tip time is just after 7 PM.

Incredible performance by Brandon Ingram last night as the 26-year-old recorded his third triple-double of his career as he scored 28 points, grabbed ten rebounds and had 10 assists as New Orleans defeated the struggling Charlotte Hornets 132 to 112. The Pels also made a franchise record 25 three-pointers. New Orleans has won eight of its last eleven and they’ll host the Phoenix Suns on Friday.

Saints quarterback Derek Carr took a lot of heat from the fan base this season as the offense struggled, especially during the first half of the season. General Manager Mickey Loomis says Carr finished the season strong, after dealing with several injuries…

ULM men’s basketball looks for its first win in Sun Belt play tonight as the Warhawks visit James Madison. The Dukes are 15-and-2 on the year.

The Ragin Cajuns improved to 3-and-3 in Sun Belt play after beating Texas State last night 86 to 68. U-L Lafayette completes a four-game road trip on Saturday by visiting South Alabama.

The Ragin Cajuns had five players in double figures last night as they defeated Texas State 86-68. Kobe Julien had 18 points and also had six rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots. The Cajuns are 3-and-3 in the Sun Belt.

The Pelicans started a four-game home stand with a 132 to 112 win over the Hornets. Brandon Ingram had a triple-double, 28 points, ten boards and ten assists. The Pels host Kevin Durant and the Suns tomorrow.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis confirmed Dennis Allen will return for a third season as the team’s head coach. While much of the fan base is down on Allen, Loomis called Allen a good coach during an hour long press conference yesterday. Loomis also says they are expecting a better record than the 9-and-8 mark that they achieved this season…

Loomis was asked why Dennis Allen will be back for a third season. Allen has failed to bring the Saints to the playoffs and his record as a head coach in New Orleans is 16-18. Loomis says there have been several hall of fame coaches like Chuck Noll, Tom Landry, Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick that did not have a winning record in their first few seasons as a head coach.

Loomis also shot down a rumor that he was stepping down or his position within the organization was changing.

In basketball action tonight, the LSU Tigers host Ole Miss. Both teams are 2-and-1 in conference play. The Rebels top player is Matthew Murrell who is averaging 17 points a game. Ole Miss is 15-and-1 on the year and they shoot 40-percent from three-point territory, which ranks seventh in the country.

The Ragin Cajuns are at Texas State. The Bobcats are 7-10 overall, 1-and-4 in the Sun Belt.

The Pelicans begin a four game homestand tonight by hosting Charlotte. The Hornets are 8-and-29 on the year.

Pete Carmichael is out as Saints offensive coordinator. Host of the Locked on Saints podcast, Ross Jackson, says a change had to happen, after two consecutive inconsistent seasons on offense…

Carmichael has been a member of the Saints staff since 2006 and offensive coordinator since 2009. There’s been more pressure on Carmichael since Coach Sean Payton left the franchise after the 2021 season.

Corey Raymond is reportedly returning to LSU. The New Iberia native was at Florida the last two seasons and had success at LSU in developing great defensive backs from 2012 to 2021, including four first round picks, Derek Stingley, Jamal Adams, Tre White and Eric Reid.

Louisiana Tech’s Athletic Director is heading to Ole Miss. After serving the university for three years marked by some major challenges, Dr. Eric Wood will become a Senior Deputy AD at Ole Miss. Tech President Dr. Jim Henderson says Wood will be missed

The Falcons are thinking big when it comes to their new head coach. It was announced Monday they interviewed Bill Belichick and yesterday Atlanta said it interviewed Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.

Corey Raymond is reportedly back at LSU. Multiple reports say the Tigers will name the New Iberia native and former Tiger as their defensive backs coach.

After three-plus years as Louisiana Tech’s athletic director, Eric Wood, is leaving Ruston for a position in Ole Miss’s athletic department. Louisiana Tech president Doctor Jim Henderson says Wood was instrumental in the post-tornado recovery and reconstruction and oversaw championships in baseball, softball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball. He says student-athletes broke several academic records too…

The Ragin Cajuns are Texas State, Tulane visits UAB and the Pelicans are home tonight to host Charlotte. New Orleans is 24-17 at the halfway point of the season.

A slow start in Dallas led to a 125 to 120 loss for the Pelicans against the Mavericks. New Orleans was just 3 of 17 from the field in the first quarter. Head Coach Willie Green says Dallas had them on their heels to start the game.

The Pelicans finish up a five-game road trip with a 3-and-2 record. They are 24-17 at the halfway point of the season.

Tampa Bay is moving on in the N-F-C playoffs as Baker Mayfield threw three touchdown passes in the Buccaneers 32-9 win over the Eagles. One of those touchdown passes went to former Kentwood star Trey Palmer.

And the Falcons have interviewed future hall of fame coach Bill Belichick.

McNeese took over sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference with an 88-69 win over Lamar University last night. Coach Will Wade’s team exploded for 47 points in the second half…

The Cowboys are 4-and-0 in the Southland and at 15-and-2 overall, McNeese is receiving votes in the AP Top 25 poll for the first time in program history.

Also in the Southland…Nicholls rallied from a 17-point second half deficit to beat UNO 78-75. Northwestern State held on to beat Houston Christian 69-64, while Southeastern Louisiana lost to Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 73-68.

Southern lost to Bethune Cookman 83-81 in overtime to fall to 3-and-1 in the SWAC. Grambling improved to 3-and-1 in the SWAC with a 65-52 win at Florida A-and-M.

Louisiana Tech athletics director Eric Wood is moving on as he’s accepted the position of Senior Deputy A-D at Ole Miss. Wood was in Ruston for over three years.
