A very frustrating loss for the Saints yesterday as they fell to the Atlanta Falcons 24 to 15. Kicker Blake Grupe was responsible for all of their points as the rookie made five fields goals. The loss drops New Orleans’ record to 5-and-6, while Atlanta improves to 5-and-6 and they are in first place in the lousy NFC South since they own the tie breaker. New Orleans is back home this Sunday to face the Detroit Lions.

The Pelicans conclude a three-game road trip tonight in Utah. New Orleans lost to the Jazz 105 to 100 on Saturday.

LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels threw four touchdown passes as he made his final case for the Heisman Trophy in a come-from-behind 42-30 win over Texas A&M on Saturday in Tiger Stadium. Daniels threw for 235 yards and rushed for 120 yards. Tigers Coach Brian Kelly says Daniels made a strong closing argument for college football’s most prestigious award…

Daniels’ biggest competition for the Heisman, Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns as the Ducks defeated Oregon State 31-7. Oregon will play in the Pac-12 championship.

Tulane will play in the A-A-C title game after beating U-T-S-A 29-16.

The Ragin Cajuns need a win this afternoon over in-state rival ULM to qualify for a bowl game. U-L-M needs a win to snap a nine game losing streak.

Grambling and Southern meet at 1 PM in the Bayou Classic. The winner finishes the season with a 6-5 record.

Nicholls takes on Southern Illinois this afternoon in the F-C-S playoffs. It’s the fourth playoff appearance in the last seven years for the Colonels and the first since 2019.

In the high school football playoffs…LSU commit and Lafayette Christian quarterback JuJuan Johnson became the all-time all-purpose yardage leader in Louisiana high school football as the Knights defeated McDonough 35…. 57-21. He has 13,662 all-purpose yards surpassing Brock Berlin.

Dutchtown, Jena and Northwest are headed to the semis for the first time in school history.

Destrehan’s 25-game winning streak is over as Zachary defeated the Wildcats 35-14 and Calvary Bapitst’s James Simon rushed a school record 348 yards as the Cavaliers defeated Parkview Baptist 49-28.

In Division One non-select, top-seeded Ruston is trying to get back to the state championship game for a second consecutive season. The Bearcats host Walker who is in the quarterfinals for the first time in program history. 21st seeded Mandeville is the cinderella in they bracket and they are at 4th seeded Airline.

Saints quarterback Derek Carr was a full participant in practice yesterday as New Orleans gets ready to face NFC South Rival Atlanta on Sunday. Carr left the last game with a shoulder injury and a concussion, but he looks good to go to play the Dirty Birds. Four-time pro bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore did not practice because of an ankle injury and could still end up on injured reserve.

The Pelicans closed out a six-game homestand with a second straight win over Sacramento last night. Zion Williamson had 25 points as New Orleans improved to 8-and-7. New Orleans visits the Clippers tomorrow night.

In college hoops, Louisiana Tech dribbled past McNeese 71-62. Daniel Batcho had 17 points as Tech’s leading scorers Isaiah Crawford and Jaylin Henderson were held to a combined seven points. Christian Shumate had 15 points for the Cowboys and surpassed one-thousand for his career.

The Cajuns tied a school record with 18 made three-pointers as U-L Lafayette outscored Long Beach State 92-82 to go 2-and-1 in the Gulf Coast Showcase. Kentrell Garnett and Blake Butler each had 20 points.

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame announces it will induct the 2024 class during the weekend of June 20 to the 22nd. Brees and former Lady Tiger great Seimone Augustus headline the class.

LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly believes quarterback Jayden Daniels is pulling away from the other contenders for the Heisman Trophy. Daniels has 4,591 passing and rushing yards combined. That’s nearly 1,000 more than Washington QB Michael Penix and Oregon signal caller Bo Nix, his two main contenders for the Heisman.
