Ragin Cajuns star Joe Charles was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The junior from Carencro averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds a game last week and continues to lead the Sun Belt in rebounding.

Louisiana Tech put a beat down on Florida International last night winning 93-53. Tahlik Chavez had 27 points, while Daniel Batcho had 20 points and 13 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 16-6 overall, six and one in Conference USA.

Louisiana Tech’s 2024 football schedule is out. They will host conference opponents Middle Tennessee, U-TEP, Jacksonville State, and Kennesaw State. Games in October will be either Tuesday or Thursday night.

The SEC has announced a new format for its conference baseball tournament. Starting in 2025, when Texas and Oklahoma join the league, all 16 teams will make it. And it will be a single-elimination tourney. The Top four teams will get a double bye and will not play until Thursday.

The Pelicans close out a four-game road trip by visiting San Antonio. New Orleans looking to end the trip on a two-game winning streak.

The Pelicans ended a three-game losing streak with a 110 to 99 win over the Houston Rockets last night. Big game for the big man Jonas Valanciunas as he had 25 points and 14 rebounds. Brandon Ingram also had a double-double- 24 points and ten rebounds. The Pels are at San Antonio tomorrow night.

Saints center Erik McCoy was named a Pro Bowler as he’ll replace injured Lions center Frank Ragnow. He’ll join teammates Demario Davis and Rasheed Shaheed at the Pro Bowl in Orlando.

The Saints reportedly interviewed former Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to be New Orleans next O-C. The Saints might wait until after the Super Bowl to talk with 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak.

Two former LSU Tigers are trying to impress NFL scouts at the Senior Bowl, center Charles Turner and defensive tackle Justin Jefferson. They’ll play in a game on Saturday at noon in Mobile, Alabama.

The Cajuns had four players in double figures as Joe Charles and Kobe Julien each had 19 points. ULM was led by Tyreese Watson who had 21 points.

A state audit of the LSU athletics department finds it finished the fiscal year that ended last June with almost a four-million dollar deficit. But John Tiebaud with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office says the department would have finished in the black, if did not take five-million dollars in revenues and give it to the academic side of the university…

Four star offensive lineman Devin Harper has committed to LSU. Harper also had strong interest from Georgia and Tennessee. He’s the 10th verbal commitment for the 2025 class, which ranks number one in the country.

There are two pitchers LSU got out of the transfer portal that could be part of the weekend rotation this year. Luke Holman, who was Alabama’s Friday night starter last season and Gage Jump from UCLA. Jump is a left-hander coming off of Tommy John Surgery…

Louisiana Tech catcher Jorge Corona named as one of D-1 Baseball’s top 50 catchers. Corona is a two-time All-Conference USA catcher and led the team in doubles last year with 18 and hit .282 on the season.

Former Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael will reportedly work for Sean Payton again. The Broncos head coach is expected to hire Carmichael as a senior offensive assistant. Carmichael and Payton coached together in New Orleans from 2006 to 2021.

A state audit of the LSU athletic department found the Tigers football program generated 105 million dollars for the fiscal year that ended last June. That’s 18-million dollars more than the previous year and Brian Kelly’s program recorded a net profit of 54-million dollars, nearly a 50-percent increase from 2022. State auditor John Tiebaud…

The LSU football program received a commitment last night from four-star offensive lineman Devin Harper from Calvary Baptist High School. He’s considered the third best player in the state for the Class of 2025.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball team looks to extend their winning steak to six games tonight when they host instate rival ULM. The Warhawks have won three in a row. U-L Lafayette is 6-3 in the Sun Belt, two games back of first place Appalachian State. ULM is 3-and-6. Cajuns Coach Bob Marlin is concerned about the Warhawks’ ability to rebound the ball.
