Louisiana Tech opens the season on Friday against Northern Colorado. First pitch has been moved up from 6 to 4 PM due to the weather.

The Saints have officially named Klint Kubiak as their new offensive coordinator. Head coach Dennis Allen says Kubiak has played an important role in the growth of many players, starting with the quarterback position.

Zion Williamson is not going to the All-Star game, but he played like an All-Star last night as the Pelicans defeated Washington 133 to 126. Williamson scored a season high 36 points. New Orleans heads into the All-Star break with a 33-22 record.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball looks to end a two-game losing streak tonight as they host Jacksonville State. The Bulldogs are 6-3 in Conference USA, tied for first with Sam Houston.

The Ragin Cajuns are at Old Dominion tonight and then they’ll have a big game against Appalachian State on Saturday, who is tied for first in the Sun Belt. U-L Lafayette point guard Themus Fulks says they will not overlook the Monarchs…

LSU baseball Coach Jay Johnson has named Thatcher Hurd as the Tigers starting pitcher on opening day against VMI. Hurd was the winning pitcher in the College World Series championship game and was outstanding in the postseason last year. Alabama transfer Luke Holman will start game two. Johnson is holding off on naming a starter for Sunday’s game.

The Pelicans play their final game tonight before the All-Star break as they host the Washington Wizards. New Orleans is coming off a three and one road trip. Meanwhile, Washington is just 9-and-44, so a good chance for the Pels wto win their 33rd game of the season. Tip off is at 7 PM.

The Saints will reportedly hire former Chargers running backs coach Derrick Foster as their new running backs coach. Foster worked with Austin Ekeler and helped him score 44 total touchdowns during a three year period.

And Broncos coach Sean Payton has officially named former Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael as a senior offensive assistant in Denver.

The LHSAA girls basketball playoffs get underway tonight. In non-select. here are your top seeds….Walker, Wossman, Rosepine, Arcadia and Hicks. In select….Huntington, Lafayette Christian, Dunham, Southern Lab and Oak Hill. The state championship games will take place on March 1st and second in Hammond.

The LSU men’s basketball team rallied back from 20 points down against Florida last night, but came up a little short and fell to the Gators 82-80. Jordan Wright had a great chance at tying the game, but his floater in the lane bounced off the rim. The Tigers have lost six of their last seven.

Angel Reese has been named SEC Women’s Basketball player of the week for a tenth time.

Men’s basketball tomorrow…The Ragin Cajuns are at Old Dominion, ULM visits Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host Jacksonville State.

The LSU men’s basketball team rallied back from a 20 point deficit to tie Florida with a minute and a half left but ended up losing to the Gators 82 to 80 in Gainesville. Jordan Wright had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but Wright’s wide open floater in the lane did not go down. The Tigers have lost six of their last seven and fall to 4-and-7 in the SEC.

The Pelicans host the Washington Wizards tonight at 7 PM in the final game before the All-Star Break. New Orleans is 32-and-22 and in sixth place in the Western Conference. The Wizards are a woeful 9-and-44.

In women’s basketball. LSU’s Angel Reese has been named SEC Player of the Week for a tenth time during her career. The junior forward had a combined 42 points and 35 rebounds in wins over Alabama and Vanderbilt. The 13th ranked Lady Tigers next game is Monday against Texas A-and-M.

ESPN and the College Football Playoff have reportedly agreed to a huge new TV deal that will give ESPN exclusive broadcast rights through the 2031-32 season. It only cost ESPN 7.8 billion dollars.

And conference commissioners are also reportedly close to agreeing to a format on how the 12 teams will be chosen. They are leaning towards allowing the five highest ranked conference champs and then the seven highest ranked teams that are not conference champions in the team 12 team playoff.

Southern has sole possession of first place in the SWAC after the Jaguars defeated Alabama State 73-62 last night. Derek Tezeno had 19 points. Grambling lost to Alabama A-and-M 60-50 to fall out of a first place tie with the Jaguars.

The LSU men’s basketball team is at Florida tonight. The Tigers are 4-6 in the SEC, while the Gators are 6-4.

There’s a lot of talk about LSU’s deep-pitching staff heading into the season. Freshman outfielder Jake Brown is impressed…

Northwestern State defeated UNO 70 to 59 last night and Southeastern Louisiana over Texas A-and-M Commerce 79 to 77.

The NFL offseason has officially begun and the Saints have reportedly hired 36 year-old Klint Kubiak to be New Orleans next offensive coordinator. Kubiak was the passing game coordinator at San Francisco this past season. He spent one season as the offensive coordinator in Minnesota in 2021 and called plays in Denver in 2022.

The college baseball season opener is Friday. LSU’s junior right-hander Thatcher Hurd could be the starter in the season opener against VMI. Catcher Hayden Travinski says Hurd’s stuff is off the charts…

Louisiana natives L’Jarius Sneed and Clyde Edwards Helaire are two-time Super Bowl winners as they helped Kansas City win its second straight super bowl, beating the 49ers in overtime 25-22. Sneed had three tackles and a pass defensed, while Edwards-Helaire had one carry for zero yards.

It was Las Vegas’ first super bowl and now it’s New Orleans turn. The Big Easy will host the big game on February 9th 2025. Saints owner Gayle Benson was in Las Vegas this morning for the handoff press conference…

The Pelicans wrap up a four-game road trip tonight at Memphis. The Grizzlies have lost eight in a row as they their roster has been decimated by injuries.

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champs again as K-C defeated San Francisco in overtime 25-22. Minden native and former Louisiana Tech star L’Jarius Sneed had three tackles and a pass defensed as he’s a Super Bowl champion for a second time. Former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire also won his second Super Bowl ring. Former LSU Tiger Neil Farrell also plays for the Chiefs.

For the second time this season, the LSU men’s basketball team gave up 109 points to 16th-ranked Alabama and lost to the Crimson Tide 109-92 on Saturday in the Maravich Center. This was a game for 32 minutes, but Bama pulled away with a 33-17 run. Coach Matt McMahon did not like his team’s shot selection in the second half…

The Pelicans seek their fifth straight win tonight when they face the Lakers in Los Angeles. Zion Williamson and Jonas Valanciunas are both listed as questionable with injuries. Valanciunas who has a right calf contusion has not missed a game this season.

Tomorrow the LSU men’s basketball team hosts 16th ranked Alabama. Tigers Coach Matt McMahon says Jalen Cook is quesitonable with a hamstring injury and Hunter Dean is also questionable because of an illness.

In other action tomorrow, ULM hosts Eastern Michigan in the Sun Belt-MAC challenge. Southeastern is at Northwestern State. McNeese hosts Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi in front of a sold out crowd. Grambling battles Alabama State in Ruston and Southern hosts Alabama A-and-M at 5:30.

The LSU baseball team is a week away from the start of a new college baseball season. Shreveport’s Hayden Travinski is back for a fifth season. Coach Jay Johnson says Travinski will provide some much needed protection in the line-up for Tommy White….
