Fifth year senior Antonio Reeves leads the Wildcats, averaging nearly 20 points a game. Two of Kentucky’s top NBA prospects, Rob Dillingham and Reed Sheppard, usually come off the bench. Tomorrow night the Pelicans return from the All-Star Break as they’ll host Houston. New Orleans is 33 and 22 and tied for fifth place in the West. 27 games left in the regular season.

Saints Coach Dennis Allen believes quarterback Derek Carr will perform exceptionally well in Klint Kubiak’s system. The 37-year-old Kubiak replaces longtime Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael. Kubiak was the 49ers passing game coordinator this past season and Allen says the scheme run in San Francisco gives players the best chance to have success in the NFL. Allen made the comments on the NFL Network.

Carencro football coach Tony Courville has announced his retirement. Bears offensive coordinator Gavin Peters will take over. Courville led Carencro to a state championship in 2020.

Former Lafayette Christian Head Football Coach Trev Faulk will serve as Lafayette Renaissance Charter’s football director and Hunter Landry will be the head coach. Landry was the head coach at LCA last season. Lafayette Renaissance Charter will be able to compete for district honors for the first time this year after completing a two year probationary period.

Alexandria Senior High offensive coordinator Ben McLaughlin has reportedly been named the new head coach at Louisiana Christian. McLaughlin is L-C-U’s all-time passing leader and is in school’s hall of fame.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball coach Talvin Hester says starters Sean Newman and Daniel Batcho are still day to day. The Bulldogs begin a three-game road trip at UTEP tomorrow.

The C-F-P has unanimously approved the 5 plus 7 model for the new 12 team college football playoff team that will be in place for the first time ever in the 2024 season. That means the five highest ranked conference champions will get into the tournament and then the next seven highest ranked teams based ont he selection committee’s ranking. The Sugar Bowl will host a quarterfinal game.

Louisiana Christian has named Ben McLaughlin as its new head football coach according to the Town Talk. McLaughlin is the school’s all-time leading passer and has been serving as the offensive coordinator at Alexandria Senior High.

Louisiana Christian head coach Drew Maddox has resigned after four seasons as he’s been hired as the defensive line coach at Southeast Missouri State.

The 13th ranked LSU women’s basketball team had a dominating win on the road last night as the Lady Tigers defeated Texas A-and-M 81-58. The Aggies had just 14 points in the first half and LSU shot 53-percent from the field. Aneesah Morrow had 25 points and 15 rebounds. In men’s hoops…Grambling is back in a tie for first place in the SWAC as the Tigers defeated Prairie View A-and-M 83-74, while the Jaguars lost to Texas Southern 68-56.

Lamar upended Southeastern 77- to 72 in overtime despite 30 points from Lions guard Nick Caldwell. Nicholls knocked off UNO 89 to 77 and Northwestern State lost to Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 72-61.

LSU running back Trey Holly posted on social media on Saturday night that he is 100-percent innocent of the charges that he faces. Holly is one of three people facing an attempted second-degree murder charge for a shooting that injured two others in Farmerville on February ninth. Holly says he was not involved in this shooting.

The LSU baseball team scored 27 runs on 27 hits in a 27-5 win over VMI. The 27 hits ties a 34-year-old school record and 20 of the hits were singles, which is a school record. Freshman second baseman Steven Milam had four hits.

Louisiana Tech is 4-0 after sweeping Northern Colorado. The Cajuns took two of three from Wright, ULM dropped it series with Missouri state. Nicholls outscored Sacred Heart 19 to 12 yesterday, while Northwestern State fell to Southern Illinois 15-11.

LSU running back Trey Holly, who faces three felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder for a shooting that wounded two people in Farmerville, says he’s 100 percent innocent of the charges. In a post on the social media platform X, Holly says he’s been falsely identified, accused, and arrested. Holly says he was at home which is where the incident took place. The all-time leading rusher in Louisiana high school football history says he turned himself in because he was notified of the arrest warrant and Holly says he wanted to cooperate fully with the investigation.

The LSU men’s basketball team has a big challenge today as they visit 11th-ranked South Carolina. The Tigers are 4-7 in the SEC, while the Gamecocks are 9-3 and they win with defense. Tip-off is at 2:30.

The Ragin Cajuns and ULM also have tough challenges on the road. U-L Lafayette is at Sun Belt leader Appalachian State for a 3:30 tip-off. ULM visits Troy at 4:00. The Trojans are 10-3 in league play.

Former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, now with the Kansas City Chiefs, is being called a hero after shielding a child during a mass shooting after their Championship Parade on Wednesday. On social media, Edwards-Helaire responded to the thanks by saying he suffers from PTSD and told everyone to think positive when bad days come.

The college baseball season gets underway today. The defending national champion LSU Tigers play four games over the next four days, VMI today and Sunday and Central Arkansas on Saturday and Monday.

Holly has been suspended from the LSU football team indefinitely and an attorney for the 19-year-old says Holly emphatically denies all charges.

The Saints are reportedly planning to hold training camp at the University of California-Irvine in suburban Los Angeles. New Orleans has been holding camp and it’s Metairie training complex since 2017, but construction on the cafeteria will force the team to move the camp elsewhere.

In college basketball last night…Louisiana Tech snapped a two-game losing streak with a 63-58 win over Jacksonville State. Daniel Batcho did not play and Terri Miller started in his place and scored 17 points.

ULM defeated Southern Miss 68-59, handing the Golden Eagles their first home loss of the season. The Ragin Cajuns won their fourth straight game on the road as U-L Lafayette defeated Old Dominion 68-60.
