LSU has hired its new defensive coordinator. It’s former Tulane football player and La Tech defensive coordinator Blake Baker. Baker was the defensive coordinator at Missouri last season and he helped the Tigers go 11-and-2 as Mizzou ranked fourth in the SEC in scoring defense. His three-year, two-point-five million dollar contract makes him the highest-paid assistant coach in the country.

Bad night for the Pelicans last night as their four-game winning streak was snapped falling to the Los Angeles Clippers 111 to 95. The 95 points were the second-fewest scored by New Orleans this season. The 21-and-15 Pels begin a tough five-game road trip on Sunday in Sacramento.

SEC play begins tonight for the LSU men’s basketball team as the Tigers are at Texas A-and-M. Louisiana Tech is at Sam Houston to begin Conference USA play. The Ragin Cajuns and ULM are both at home today looking for their first victories in Sun Belt play.

LSU baseball is ranked third in the 2024 Perfect Game preseason poll. Wake Forest is ranked number one in their poll. Followed by Arkansas, LSU, Florida. TCU, Vanderbilt, Texas A-and-M, and Texas.

Saints Coach Dennis Allen says running back Alvin Kamara will be a gametime decision on Sunday when New Orleans hosts Atlanta in the regular season-finale. Kamara injured his ankle in last Sunday’s victory against the Buccaneers.

LSU’s leading rusher in 2023 has entered the transfer portal. Logan Diggs who transferred in from Notre Dame to rush for 653 yards with the Tigers could be concerned about playing time, with Kaleb Jackson expected to get more carries next season.

The seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team won its SEC opener last night, 92-72 over Missouri. Flau’Jae Johnson has a season high 24 points and helped spark a 32-point third quarter….

SEC play got off to a great start for the seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team last night as the Lady Tigers defeated Missouri 92-72 in front of 11-thousand fans at the PMAC. Sophomore guard Flau’jae Johnson had a season-high 24 points as LSU improved to 14-1.

The Ragin Cajuns came up short in their bid to hand 19th ranked James Madison its first loss of the season. The Dukes dribbled past U-L Lafayette 68-61. The Cajuns are off to an 0-2 start in Sun Belt play, but Coach Bob Marlin says there’s still a lot of basketball left…

The seventh-ranked LSU women’s basketball team opened SEC play with a resounding 92-72 win over Missouri. The Lady Tigers erupted for 32 points in the third quarter. Aneesah Morrow had 25 points and Flau’Jae Johnson added 24.

The Ragin Cajuns fell short in their upset bid of 19th-ranked James Madison. The Dukes remain undefeated after a 68-61 win in the Cajundome.

LSU safety Major Burns has announced he’s returning for his senior season. The Baton Rouge product led the Tigers with 93 tackles last season. Ohio State cornerback Jyaire Brown has committed to LSU. Brown was a Buckeye for two years but saw his playing time dwindle his sophomore season. He is  a New Orleans native.

LSU safety Major Burns announced today he will return for his senior season. Burns led the team in tackles with 93 last season.

Only one player from the Saints has been named a pro bowler and that’s wide receiver Rashid Shaheed as he makes the N-F-C’s roster as a return specialist. Shaheed is third in the NFL in punt return average.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball team looks to extend their home winning streak to 20 games when they host 19th ranked James Madison at the Cajundome tonight. It’s the first nationally ranked team to visit Lafayette since Nevada in 2006. Coach Bob Marlin is glad the game is on their home court…

LSU football coach Brian Kelly is looking for a new defensive coordinator after Matt House and three other assistants were fired yesterday. Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker’s name has emerged as a potential candidate. He coached linebackers at LSU in 2021 and is a former defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech. Missouri’s defense this season ranked fourth in the SEC.

The top running back in the nation for the Class of 2025, Harlem Berry from St. Martin’s High School in New Orleans, has committed to LSU. Florida and Texas were the other finalists. Berry rushed for 2,080 yards and scored 47 touchdowns last season.

Former Ragin Cajuns and Madison Prep quarterback Zeon Chriss has committed to Houston and Coach Willie Fritz.

The Pelicans won their fourth straight last night, a 117 to 106 win over Minnesota. Zion Williamson had 27 points and Brandon Ingram added 19.

Brandon Marcello of 247 sports reports Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker has emerged as a possible replacement. The 41-year-old from Houston was on Ed Orgeron’s staff at LSU and also coached at Louisiana Tech from 2015 to 2019. His defense at Missouri ranked fourth in the SEC in total defense this past season.

The Pelicans won their fourth straight last night knocking off the best team in the Western Conference record wise, Minnesota, 117 to 106. Zion Williamson as he had 27 points, four rebounds and six assists.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball completed non-conference play last night with an easy 96-55 victory over Dallas Christian. Daniel Batcho had a game 22 points as the Bulldogs as a team shot 60-percent from the field. La Tech tips off conference play at Sam Houston on Saturday.

ULM fell to 0-2 in the Sun Belt last night as the Warhawks lost to 68-57. The Warhwaks will host Georgia Southern on Saturday.

A major shakeup within the LSU football coaching staff went down today as head Coach Brian Kelly fired defensive coordinator Matt House, along with three other assistant coaches. Tiger Rag Editor Todd Horne says changes had to be made after a historically bad season for LSU on defense…

Despite an eight and eight record, the Saints playoff hopes are alive. For New Orleans to win the NFC South, they will have to beat Atlanta and Carolina needs to defeat the Buccaneers. A wild card berth for the Saints can occur if they win on Sunday and the Cardinals beat the Seahawks and the Bears defeat Green Bay. Coach Dennis Allen says their focus needs to be on Atlanta…

The Saints have reportedly restructured the contract of cornerback Marshon Lattimore to save a reported eleven million dollars towards the 2024 salary cap. Lattimore hasn’t played since week ten because of an ankle injury.

In basketball…the Pelicans try to win their fourth in a row as they visit Minnesota tonight. Louisiana Tech has its final non-conference game as its Dallas Christian, who is 3-and-10 on the year. Grambling State women’s basketball defated College of Biblical Studies 159 to 18. The 141 points is the biggest margin of victory in Division one women’s basketball history.

The Tigers were ranked among the worst in the country in several categories, including total defense where they were ranked 105th in the nation for giving up 417 yards a game. LSU also allowed 28 points a game, third worst in the SEC.

Defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey and safeties coach Kerry Cooks, cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples were also let go today.

The Pelicans won their third straight last night as they defeated Brooklyn 112 to 85 in the Smoothie King Center. The 85 points were fewest allowed by an opponent this season. New Orleans went 3-and-2 on the homestand, they are 20-14 overall and will visit the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight. The Wolves have the best record in the West at 24-8 and the Pels are in sixth place in the West.

The Pelicans won their third straight last night as they blew out Brooklyn 112 to 85. Seven players scored in double figures led by C-J McCollum who had 16 points. He made four three-pointers. Herb Jones had 14 points and Jose Alvardo had 13 points. The Pels are at Minnesota tonight.

The Saints will conclude the regular season by hosting the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. New Orleans needs to win and they need some help from other teams to get in the postseason. The Dirty Birds beat the Saints 24-15 in Atlanta on Thanksgiving weekend. Atlanta rushed for 228 yards in that game. Coach Dennis Allen says they can’t let the Falcons run all over them…

The second year of the Brian Kelly era LSU concluded on New Year’s Day with a 35-31 win over Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl. After waiting three years to get his first start, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 395 yards and three touchdowns. Nussmeier believes the program is heading in the right direction…

As expected, defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo and receiver Brian Thomas have entered their names into the NFL draft. Freshman offensive tackle Lance Heard has entered the transfer portal.

The nation’s number one running back in the country for the Class of 2025, Harlem Berry from St. Martin’s High School in New Orleans, announces his commitment today. It’s expected to be LSU.
