The LSU Baseball team won two contests on Sunday to set up today’s Regional Championship game against North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Regional. The Tigers beat Wofford in the afternoon and took down the Tar Heels eight to four last night. Thatcher Hurd was the big story. The right-hander has struggled, but had his best outing of the year against U-N-C, giving up just two runs and striking out six. Hurd says Coach Johnson gave the entire team confidence they could win two games yesterday

LSU Eunice is national champions again in division two junior college baseball as the Bengals defeated Brunswick Community College nine to three for their eighth title. Ruston’s Dawson Willis was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player as he had seven hits, scored seven runs and had seven stolen bases.

There were six teams from Louisiana that made the NCAA Baseball Tournament and only LSU is left. The Ragin Cajuns were eliminated last night by Texas A-and-M as the Aggies defeated U-L Lafayette nine to four. Catcher Jose Torres says they gave it their best…

Tulane’s season also came to an end yesterday with a 17-7 loss to U-C Irvine. Louisiana Tech, Grambling and Nicholls were eliminated on Saturday, failing to win a game in their respective regionals.

The Minnesota Vikings have made receiver Jordan Jefferson the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL as he’s inked a four-year, 140-million dollar contract extension. The former LSU Tiger has nearly six-thousand receiving yards after just four seasons in the NFL.

Former LSU offensive lineman Alan Faneca is on the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame ballot, so is former Tigers Coach Nick Saban.

LSU Baseball won two games Sunday and they are one win away from hosting a Super Regional Series. The Tigers defeated Wofford 13-6 in an elimination game yesterday and defeated North Carolina eight to four last night to force a winner take all game today against the Tar Heels. The Ragin Cajuns ran out of gas in the College Station Regional. After pounding Texas 10 to 2 on a hot Sunday afternoon on Texas A-and-M’s campus. The Aggies defeated U-L Lafayette nine to four last night to win the College Station Regional. David Christie and Carson Fluno each gave up three runs. Bryan Broussard and Jose Torres hit home runs in the win over the Longhorns and Chase Morgan was the winning pitcher.

Tulane gave up nine runs in the seventh inning and lost to U-C Irvine 17 to 7 and was eliminated yesterday afternoon in the Corvallis Regional. The Green Wave finish the season 36 and 26.

Louisiana Tech, Grambling State and Nicholls saw their seasons end on Saturday. The Bulldogs pitching staff gave up 28 runs in losses to Kansas State and Southeast Missouri.

And LSU Eunice won its eight national championship in division two junior college baseball. The Bengals defeated Brunswick Community College nine to three on Saturday to finish the year 56 and 8.

LSU and North Carolina both won in walk-off fashion yesterday and they’ll meet in a winner’s bracket game at 4 PM today. The Tigers were down three to one in the eighth inning and tied the game in the eighth inning with solo home runs from Michael Braswell and Jared Jones. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Steven Milam hit one over the fence for a walk-off home run. It was the second home run of the day and his second walk-off homer in the last week. North Carolina was down eight to five in the ninth inning, but won the game on a grand slam hit by Gavin Gallagher. It was Gallagher’s second home run of the game as the Tar Heels defeated Long Island University 11 to 8.

Louisiana Tech and Kansas State did not finish their NCAA Tournament game last night as weather halted play in the sixth inning with the Bulldogs trailing the Wildcats nine to four. The two teams will return to the diamond today at 11 AM to finish the game and if Tech can not come back, they will play Southeast Missouri at 2 PM.

The Ragin Cajuns and Grambling will play each other in an elimination game today at 2 PM. U-L Lafayette lost to Texas 12 to five yesterday as they allowed the Longhorns to score seven runs in the fifth inning and the Tigers were blanked by Texas A-and-M eight to nothing.

Nicholls suffered a crushing loss to U-C Irvine. The Colonels trailed nine to one, but came back to take the lead in the ninth inning on a three-run home run by Edgar Alvarez, only to lose the game to the Anteaters 13 to 12. Tulane fell to Oregon State ten to four. It will be Nicholls versus Tulane in an elimination game at 3 PM today.

That was the call from the Voice of the Tigers, Chris Blair on the LSU Sports Radio Network. It was Milam’s second home run of the day and it was his second walk-off homer in the last week. He also hit one to beat South Carolina last Saturday.

Michael Braswell and Jared Jones hit home runs in the eighth inning to tie the game at three. Gage Jump pitched into the eighth inning, allowing just three runs. Griffin Herring gets the win as he pitches a perfect ninth inning.

The Tigers will move on to play the winner of tonight’s game between North Carolina and Long Island. The winner’s bracket game is at four PM on Saturday.

The NCAA Baseball Regionals are underway as the LSU Tigers are taking on the Wofford Terriers. Gage Jump got the start on the mound for the defending champs. Pitcher Christian Little is in street clothes, so it looks like he’s not available for regional after suffering a lat injury last week.

The Ragin Cajuns will start Carson Fluno on the mound today against the Longhorns, while Texas will send Max Grubbs to the hill. Fluno is 4-0 with a 2.94 ERA and Coach Matt Deggs says the senior from Wisconsin has been solid for them all season long…

Football schedules for Southland Conference schools have been altered because Stephen F Austin is back in the league. McNeese will kick-off Southland play by hosting the Lumberjacks on September 14th. Northwestern State will go to Stephen F on October 5th.

64 college baseball teams wake up today, five wins away from reaching the College World Series. The NCAA Baseball Tournament begins today and there are six teams from Louisiana.

The defending national champion LSU Tigers are in North Carolina where they’ll face Wofford at 11 AM. LSU has won 18 of it last 24 and the Tigers are seeking their 20th College World Series appearance.

Wofford is making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Louisiana Tech takes on Kansas State tonight in the opening round of the Fayetteville Regional. The Wildcats plan to start senior Owen Boerema on the mound. He’s six and three with a 4.91 ERA. Bulldogs Coach Lane Burroughs says Boerema is a tough left-handed pitcher

Saints legend Drew Brees will be inducted into the team’s hall of fame this year. In his 15 years in New Orleans, Brees led the NFL in passing seven times and threw for over five-thousand yards five times. When Brees came to the Saints prior to the 2006 season, there was a major concern about his throwing shoulder as he injured it badly in his final season in San Diego…

Wofford won six games in five days to win the Southern Conference Tournament and receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. They rank second in country in runs per game, as they average 10 runs a contest.

Saturday Down South reports Southern Cal has tried to back out of its season opening football game against LSU in Las Vegas. Trojans Coach Lincoln Riley reportedly does not want to play in the game with USC moving into the Big 10 and they playing a tough schedule with road games at Michigan and Washington. USC will also Notre Dame this year.

Nicholls has arrived in Corvallis, Oregon for its regional game against U-C Irvine on Friday afternoon. Coach Mike Silva says the Anteaters have a loaded pitching staff and a dynamic line-up…

Nicholls-UC Irvine game is at 3 PM in Corvallis. AT 8 PM central time, Oregon State faces Tulane. The Green Wave have won eight of their last nine and they are 7-and-7 against teams that have made the NCAA Tournament.

Louisiana Tech Forward Daniel Batcho says he’s returning next season. The Texas Tech transfer was the Conference USA Player of the Year after averaging 15 points a game last season. Batcho says his goal is to lead the Bulldogs into the NCAA Tournament.

Stephen F Austin is back in the Southland after spending the last three years in the WAC. The Southland has revised its football schedule for 2024.

Stephen F Austin is returning to the Southland Conference. The Lumberjacks were in the Southland for 34 years, but in 2021 they joined the Western Athletic Conference, but found out the travel in the WAC is brutal. They will compete in football in the Southland this year so new schedules will likely come out this week.

Stephen F Austin will play football in the Southland in 2024, so expect to hear about new football schedules before the week is over.

Calvary Baptist Running back John Simon has committed to Texas. LSU showed interest in Simon, but for the Class of 2025 the Tigers already have commitments from running back Harlem Berry and Alexandria Senior High’s J-T Lindsey.

Saints defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon (TAH-noh PASS-en-yoh) suffered a torn Achilles injury during a running drill. Coach Dennis Allen is hopeful the edge rusher will NOT miss the entire regular season.

Allen so far has been impressed with linebacker Willie Gay, who signed with the Black and Gold, who spent his first four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs….

LSU’s Ingrid Linblad has been named the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Player of the Year. Linblad won four tournaments this year including the NCAA Bryan Regional. She will compete in the U-S Women’s Open in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which begins Thursday.

Ragin Cajuns signee, Mark Collins, has been named the Class One-A Baseball player of the year. Collins hit .491 for Opelousas Catholic this past season and helped O-C win its first state championship in baseball.
